Re: NOOK App-dumbed down from the ereader.

Personally I would go to Border's, I hate Kobo.  Kobo's tech support sucks worse than B&N's.  Plus all of Border's files are .epub, they give coupons each week and their ereader is great.  If you want to you can even put their ebooks in to Stanza with no trouble.

About your issue, I would call B&N back.  You got someone who just didn't want to help you.  As long as that book is saying it belongs to someone else you will not be able to use it, it's totally useless.  I can't do anything to help you with that, they need to mark the book as new or mark it titled to you.  I'm sorry I can't help you with your problem, that is something that I just can not do anything about.

Sorry,

Re: NOOK App-dumbed down from the ereader.

Issy: Thank you for your suggestion. I will check out Kobo.

I totally agree! B&N is completely ignoring all these complaints. It doesn't sound like they plan on changing anything. And both my experiences with their customer service was terrible. As you can tell I'm pretty frustrated with B&N right now. I paid for my books, I should be able to transfer them anywhere. (anywhere that supports .epub files anyway) But hey, what do I know? :/

Re: NOOK App-dumbed down from the ereader.

I'm so glad that worked out for you.  If you become a member (at Borders), the free version, you will receive coupons each week for 30%-40% off of the list price.  A lot of times they will even let you use them on ebooks!

I buy all of my books from Borders, I only buy from B&N when someone gives me a gift card.  Otherwise I only use B&N for the free ebooks and purchase only from Borders.  I am disabled and live on a very limited income, can't afford to throw away good book money, lol.

I'm glad it all worked out and I'm sorry you had such a bad experience with B&N.  Borders tech support isn't all that, they are very nice though and are willing to do what ever it takes to make you happy.

I was offered a free ebook in an email one time from them and the ebook wouldn't download properly.  I called tech support and asked what the issue was and they said that the ebook was not on their server.  To make up for it they sent me a $10 gift card to use any way I wanted.  I ended up downloading that same ebook from B&N's freebie page and still had my $10 gift card to use at Border's.  How's that for making out, lol.

Please keep in touch and if you need help later on please send me a note.  You can make me a friend here in the bookclubs if you want.

Re: NOOK App-dumbed down from the ereader.

Hi All,

I posted a second message on the Barnes & Noble Facebook page-they won't leave it up for others to see, but I did get a response this time from someone wanting to know what the probllems are and stated they want to help. I sent them back the info and am waiting for another response. I will update here, if and when I get one.

Re: NOOK App-dumbed down from the ereader.

Missy, that would be great! thanks!

Oh and here, I found this on the Adobe site..

http://www.adobe.com/devnet/digitalpublishing/articles/barnes_noble_faq.html

Apparently as it is now, ADE won't be able to convert the new NOOKbooks, until they come out with a later version of ADE. *sigh*.......

Pinky, how do I add you as a friend on here? I'm still new...... lol

Re: NOOK App-dumbed down from the ereader.

Hi Charmmy,

It's easy to add friends.  Just click on my name here to the left and it will take you to a screen that will tell you a little bit about me.  On the right hand of that screen you will see green button to the right that says "Add Pink_Maiden to friends".  Just cli.ck on the button.  I already added you on my end :smileyhappy:

Hey, you do know about Free Friday's here right?  They give away a free book each friday.  Right now they are giving away 2 books, a regular book and a classic.  To get your free book each week just go up to the search button and type in Free Friday's, look for the one with the newest timestamp, this will be the Free giveaway for the current week.  I would try to get on there each Friday, Saturday at the latest to get your free ebook, some times the offer goes quick!

Here is the link for this week Free Friday's:

Re: NOOK App-dumbed down from the ereader.

I don't have any trouble with the "Nook Books" (.pdb or .epub) on Stanza, I seem to be able to read them just fine.  Same thing with the old B&N ereader (from fictionwise) for .pdb files.

I use the old B&N ereader on my computer to open them and then transfer them to Stanza to read on my ipod.  I haven't come across one yet that I can't open and read everywhere BUT Nook!  I REFUSE to use that application or program.  They don't even have a version for the Mac (that's what I have) yet, I had to use the "Nook Study" to down load a few of the freebies to my computer.  Then I put them in ereader or Stanza.

I have over 400 ebooks from B&N and have only paid for 4 I think.  Love Free Friday's and the freebie section.  Do a search for $0.00, you will find almost 2 million books!

Re: NOOK App-dumbed down from the ereader.

Pinky, thanks for the info! I have added you as a friend :smileyhappy:

that is awesome you are able to add your books to Stanza! I wish I was so lucky!

Umm.. one question.. I downloaded some free books from Borders and added them to my Stanza app the way you directed me to. Umm.. they came out funny.. lol. I did it to about 3 of them to make sure it wasn't just the one book.. and I also tried both files Borders offer. but they come out weird.. like jumbles of letters in between words and the like. what did I do wrong?

Re: NOOK App-dumbed down from the ereader.

Question, was it the .epub file or the .acsm file that you downloaded?

When you download files from Borders by clicking on the ".epub button" it will give you a file that says, exactly "URLLink.acsm".  You have to double click that file to get to the .epub file.

Once you double click it it should open in Adobe Digital Editions.  Then you need to upload the file from there to Stanza.  The file should be in this directory "My Documents, Digital Additions.  Sorry, I forgot about that, lol

Try that and let me what happens :smileyhappy:

Question, was it the .epub file or the .acsm file that you downloaded?  (to your ipod or computer, which one?  and which file)

When you download files (from your computer) from Borders by clicking on the ".epub button" it will give you a file that says, exactly "URLLink.acsm".  You have to double click that file (on your computer) to get to the .epub file.

Once you double click it (the "URLLink.acsm" file) it should open in Adobe Digital Editions.  Then you need to upload the file from there (again, your computer) to Stanza.  The file should be in this directory "My Documents, Digital Additions.  Then follow the directions I gave you to put it on your ipod.

Re: NOOK App-dumbed down from the ereader.

It's the .epub file. the freebie I got it worked just fine! but not the one I purchased I did it the same way.. its giving me that same error as before.. the one that says it's "DRM" or some such.. oh well. Thanks so much for your help anyway! at least the Borders reader is better than the NOOK..

Today I learned about a new iPod/iPad ereader app called Bluefire that lets you read Adobe DRM'd library books.  The app is free in iTunes.  Be sure to read the instructions at

Prior to posting links please read our Book Club User Guidelines.

Thank you.

It'd imperative that the account in bluefire is the same as the adobe id you use for downloading the library books to your computer.
