NOOK for PC crashes

Hello,

Nook for PC locks up my machine and eventually crashes and displays an error "code 10" when I try to login. I'm running Windows 7 32 bit OS. I've uninstalled and reinstalled several times. I have verified that there is no firewall blocking Internet communication. I can also run the app and create a new account. It is only when signing into my existing account.

I haven't been able to find a resolution to this on the message board. Anybody else having this problem? Anybody get it fixed?

Thanks,

Wade

Re: NOOK for PC crashes

Note the problem is clearly not reported much so its Most likely something on your machine.  Of course you could try reaching B&N support.  If you want some of us "peers" to help I believe we would need much more info.  Perhaps one of those who had problems but fixed it might be able to help.  About the only thing I could suggest is finding the database and deleting it, but that is suppose to be deleted when you uninstall and you say you did that.

+1 Here.

Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit. Nook runs at about 16K RAM unitl I click  the button to sign in and then rapidly goes to over 1.8 GB of RAM and 48 - 51% CPU. It crashes with Error 010 about 30 seconds later.

Re: NOOK for PC crashes

I loaded Nook for PC to my Vista laptop and it now takes more than 8 minutes to startup (was less than a minute).  Worst yet when I try to delete Nook the confirmation message says I'm trying to delete Microsoft Windows!  Obviously Nook is NOT for my PC, how do I get rid of it?

Re: NOOK for PC crashes

Yeah, I've done the same thing as you. Installed and Uninstalled several times. Still have the "code 010" come up after about 5 minutes waiting for it to login. I do have my old books in the "my stuff" section. But can't recieve any new books that I bought from B&N. And nothing comes up in "my library" section.

Re: NOOK for PC crashes

For anyone experiencing this issue/error message, please rename your “My Barnes & Noble eBooks” folder to “My Barnes & Noble eBooks_old” and then run the app again.

Tried this also, and I still get the error when trying to log on to the Nook for PC.  I am running Windows 7 64 bit.

Re: NOOK for PC crashes

This issue has been around for 3+ months now!  I for one bought my nook in part because of the different ways available to read my books when my nook is not always available.  If you want to have any chance at a successful 'word of mouth' campaign from me you will have to do a lot better than 3 months and the issue is STILL OPEN.

Re: NOOK for PC crashes

I totally agree.  I debated long and hard between the Kindle and the Nook.  At the time, both offered similar support on multiple platforms.  The Nook edged out the Kindle for me since I could borrow books from my local library, but even that is not without challanges since the library doesn't keep enough copies.  Now, the PC version is broken, and there is no app for my Windows Phone 7.  I read in a press release that Kindle is available on 11 platforms.  I am still able to return this Nook, but I hope that I don't have to resort to such a dramatic action!  Please get a solution for this soon!

Re: NOOK for PC crashes

Same here.  Crashes on W7 Ultimate.  Starts with using ~30MB then goes to over 1877MB after trying to login. Then crash with event 10.

This has be going on for several months.  Need a resolution.  If this can't be fixed I may end up looking else where for eBooks.  I have a Nook and am willing to toss it if I can get a reader that works on Windows 7.  I am not willing to install applications that I purchased to make this work.  Too much of an investmet.  Too much work for me to reinstall W7 and install applications one at a time to find if there is a confilict.  That is the role of the company that publishes /  sells an application.

Re: NOOK for PC crashes

I just received an ExoPC Windows 7 slate device (running 32 bit Windows 7 Ultimate) and am getting the same error. The Nook app install fine but when I go to sign in for the first time it runs the signing in portion for a while then finally takes a dive. I tried the renaming the My Barnes & Noble eBooks folder to My Barnes & Noble eBooks_old as directed in this thread but same issue. I have sent an email to customer support but did not receive a response as of 2 days later and based on thread see no resolution. I am disappointed that this has not been addressed as it appears it is not that isolated an issue. In our house we have an original Nook, a Nook Color and I have the Nook app successfully running on our homes main PC (a Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit). I use the slate for demonstrations with clients at least 3 times a week and not being able to show the integrated Nook experience is a bummer. If I can't get it resolved I will have to install the Kindle app which I have not wanted to do. Please tell me a fix is coming soon. We love our Nooks at home but not being able to use on my work slate is a disappointment.
