New Nook for Mac Beta won't work.

Hey can anyone help me?

I just downloaded the new beta version of Nook for mac and it loads up a grey screen, then shows me the nook logo, but doesn't bring up the sign in page. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, thanks. I'm running OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a 13 inch macbook.

I can't help but I want you to know you are not alone. I don't remember downloading a new version but it used to work, today I get the same thing as you. Downloaded it again and reinstalled just now and still didn't fix it. MacBook 13" Snow Leopard. Annoying as all get out since it USED to work fine.

Re: New Nook for Mac Beta won't work.

I figued out how to get the Nook software to function correctly.

Running Mac OS X Version 10.6.8

Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core Duo

Install the software as instructed into the application folder.

Create a folder and name it: NOOKForMac and also put that in the application folder. (Pay attention to what I have as caps)

Drag the Nook Software into that folder.

Start up the software.

As a test, I renamed the folder: NookForMac and the software stopped functioning again. Why this works is beyond me, but it does.

Good luck.

Re: New Nook for Mac Beta won't work.

I tried this solution on my 15" MacBook Pro, OS 10.6.8, 2.66 Ghz Intel Core i7 processor.  No luck.  Shootski.  I'd really like to be able to manage my library (shelves and all) on the laptop, as it would be easier than on the Nook simple touch I'm using now.   Shoulda known when they list technical support for reading apps as "iPad/iPhone/Android/PC/Other"... maybe if I run virtual PC software and use the nook for PC app???

Re: New Nook for Mac Beta won't work.

As Navelgazer indicated, this fixed the Nook for Mac Beta app on my Mac Mini, running 10.6.8 on an Intel Core 2 Duo...

- Create a new folder in Applications

- Name it NOOKForMac

- Drag the NOOK for Mac application into this new folder

Open the application, and WHAMMO.....it works!

Before the fix I got the same results that many have been reporting on these boards where the Nook logo and animation loads and then the app freezes up. For those of you who this fix helps, enjoy...

Unfortunately it didn't work for me. It used to work great now nothing. Why hasn't B&N addressed this yet?

Re: New Nook for Mac Beta won't work.

I have a Macbook pro OS X 10.6.8. Here's the jist in 3 steps:

  1. Download Nook
  2. Go to the 'download' folder (or wherever you store you internet downloads)

3. Click the little settings tab Nook Download step 1.png

4. Then open with 'Disk Utility' Nook download step 4

Re: New Nook for Mac Beta won't work.

Downloaded app and it work, but stopped working once I rebooted my computer. It starts to lead and all I can see is the grey screen w/ the Nook logo. I'm shocked that this issue was reported last year and there is still no resolution. I've tried the recommended "solutions", but none have worked for me.

Genius!  I am running 10.8 and could not get the app to work until I tried this solution.  Works like a charm. Thanks!

Re: New Nook for Mac Beta won't work.

I just tried the solution and it DOES work!  You do have to close the application, then go back in through Launchpad for it to work.  Clicking on the application while in Finder does not work.

Thank you soooo much for posting this solution.

Re: New Nook for Mac Beta won't work.

I also found another solution where you right click on the gray background behind the logo on startup and select back. After that right click again and select forward. The app will now allow you to log in.

Re: New Nook for Mac Beta won't work.

So mine was doing the same as everyone else and it was even downloading NOOKforMac as the app. I had to move it to NOOKforMac in a seperate folder just to get it to work. B&N probably hasn't acknowledged it yet because it has to do the with Nook developer and not necessarily them. Don't quote me on that because I'm just trying to be optimistic. Anyways. Thanks for the help!!!
