No Nook App for iPhone 3G?

I'm in the process of buying a eReader and prefer the Nook glowlite over the Kindle touch. I was planning to buy one once available at end of May, but I just discovered some bad news in that the nook app will not run on my iphone 3G (3GS and up only, requires ios4.3). The kindle app will run on the iphone 3G, which I  installed. Y does B&N not have the nook app available for the 3G? I want to be able to use both my iphone & eReader for my library of ebooks I purchase. Is there a nook app planned for the 3G?

B&N will lose my business if I cannot get the Nook app for the iPhone 3G. I don't care for the Kindle eReader as well as the Nook, but having access via my iphone is a deciding factor as to which one I purchase. I would suggest B&N do something quickly because I think that is a concern for many iphone 3G users.

Looks like you need a different phone. There is no future in the 3G.

Re: No Nook App for iPhone 3G?

The reason probably is that, if you don't have iOS 4.3 and the hardware in the iPhone 3GS the app just is not compatible with the iOS you have on your phone or the hardware.  Writing an app from the ground up for a single phone and not being able to use the APIs/Hardware in the iPhone 3GS and above would not only be hard, but would be very expensive.

That is the limitations of OSs, Hardware and APIs.

Re: No Nook App for iPhone 3G?

thanks, I know the reason is Apple dropped support for the 3G(2nd generation) iphone and will not provide ios 4.3 for it.
If B&N did supply the nook app for the 3G at one time it is no longer listed in itunes, so where has it gone and Y hasnlt B&N provided a link for it. The current link is for the 3GS and up

Apple was still selling the 3G 6months before dropping support for it. So we as consumers are suppose to throw away perfectly good items every 6 months or so because a new generation is available for features I don't need or want?

This is short sighted by Apple, but also for B&N for not providing the app for 3G. I am a professional Software Engineer and deal with this on a day to day basis. I would assume there is not much that would have to be done to make the app run on 3G, really we are not talking rocket science here. I do it all the time in the products we sell. It takes forever before we stop support for older releases, otherwise we'd be out of business. B&N will miss out on my business because of this. I will be using a Kindle which does support the 3G, Amazon at least did one thing correctly even thouhg I think the nook is better.
