Nook App Crashes on iPhone

I have had a NOOK color for a month now and I generally like it.  However, I installed the iPhone app and the book I am reading now does not work with it.  I purchased and downloaded the book thru BN, but the iPhone app hates it and when I try to open it, the app crashes and takes me back to my home screen.  It's only on that one book.  Other books work with it.  I tried everything suggested in this discussion group, but nothing works.  I called tech support and that was pretty worthless.  I have wasted so much time on this problem.  Other people are having this problem and BN doesn't seem interested in fixing it.  So- is there another reader app for the iPhone that will open my book? I have had to let my issues go with the Nook App, so I would like to try something else.  I am so disappointed because this was definitely a selling point in getting the Nook - the transferability of the books.  Should I have gone with a Kindle?  Never mind, don't answer that question.  Thanks!

Just to make sure we're on the same page when you say you've "tried everything," make sure you try powering down your iPhone and powering back up.  Also some people recommend signing out in the app and signing back in, or even deleting and reinstalling the app.

That aside, I use the Bluefire Reader (also a free app in the app store) to read my B&N ebooks on my iPhone.  You'll have to input your credit card number the first time you open a book on the iPhone, but only that one time. To transfer your B&N ebooks into Bluefire, download them onto your computer with the Nook app -- you'll find the ebook files under My Documents > My Barnes & Noble Ebooks > your email address.  Then just transfer the files to Bluefire, either through iTunes, or wirelessly using the method they talk about in their FAQ (Desktop something-or-other).

Bluefire also works with ADE DRM such as library books, by the way.  You'll lose the ability to sync with your Nook, but it's a fabulous app.

Bluefire sounds like a plan.  I will try it out.  And, yes, I did try completely shutting down iPhone, deleting app, re-installing.  Thanks!

Re: Nook App Crashes on iPhone

I've been having that problem all day. Live chat didn't help. I was told they were aware of the problem and were working on it. But I still didn't figure out of it's MY phone, MY app, an account problem or that EVERYONE is experiencing this problem. If my nook wasn't broke with an expired warranty, I'd just be reading there. Any ideas?

Re: Nook App Crashes on iPhone

I have the current app on my iPhone4S and have no issues with the app. So, it is not something that is affecting every user. You don't state in your post what version of iOS you have, what iPhone you have, what other apps are running at the same time as the reader (Software conflicts do happen) or what version of the app you have. If you are looking for assistance at this board, these are things that your fellow user and BN folk would need to assist you.
