Nook for BlackBerry 10

Where is the Nook App for BlackBerry 10?  Why doesn't Nook Web Reader work on BlackBerry 10?

I like my original Nook and my Nook Tablet, but those don't go with me everywhere.  Is there a date when the App will be available?

I never figured out why they discontinued support for Nook for the older Blackberry.

Lack of market share.

For the new blackberry - I'm not aware of B&N giving an indication that there was an app for it in development (though I could have missed it - as I no longer use BB I haven't followed the software announcements closely).  I would expect, given the small market share, that an app for the BB10 would be a fairly low priority.  It's unfortunate - IMO BB makes fantastic devices.

It's a vicious circle. Low market share --> Fewer meaningful apps and Fewer meaningful apps --> Low market share.  All of just means fewer choices for consumers, fewer true players, and an increased risk for decreased innovation.

Lack of market share doesn't explain why they discontinued support for a product that was already working just fine.  I installed it on my BB and it worked fine, then at some point they disabled the connection from the server end so I could no longer download anything new.  So once I finished the books I had downloaded (I kept a couple to read only on my BB when I was stuck waiting in line or at the doctor's office) I couldn't download any more, and couldn't manage to get sideloading to work.

And, BTW, my contract is due up in a few months and I plan to replace my Curve with a BB10.  Sure would be nice to have a reading app for it.

Actually it does - if they disconnect and list it as no longer supported, then they get a cost savings by not having to address issues going foward, and they only lose a tiny amount of market share, that they're likely to gain back as BB users get frustrated at the lack of apps across the board and move to Android and iOS.

I'm not saying the logic is fair to consumers (in fact I say the opposite upthread), but it's the logic used to generally make decisions when you don't have virtually unlimited resources available to build apps.

Re: Nook for BlackBerry 10

This might explain why there is no BB app nor an app for Win7,8,

I do love my new Q10. I think Barnes & Noble does not realize that many co. still only allow Blackberry in secure areas. At my co, they used to allow only BB. Now they also have 1 Samsung. Tried that & it sucked. Anyway, I'm told they will phase out allowing Samsung at work soon (but may trial Apple next). I've tried 2 other brands for my personal phone &, compared to BB, they sucked too. So, I guess BnN does not care about retaining business users too much. Even if I had a choice for my work phone, I would choose Blackberry. I do for my personal ph & now I always chose BB. Kindle has a BB app. It's almost as if BnN WANTS me to switch to Amazon.

Re: Nook for BlackBerry 10

B&N dropped support for the old Blackberry models around the time their market share dropped below 5%.  I remember because I had one at that time.  I suspect they won't bother with an app unless it becomes a more significant player in the market.  One of the issues is that many companies like yours that require only Blackberries want extreme security, and don't let users install any apps on them anyway, so that tiny market share gets even smaller.

Re: Nook for BlackBerry 10

Well, that is partially true. I can add apps, but must get clearance for most (any that are not stock). Getting the Kindle app was fairly easy.

As for the demise of BB (I.E. >5% market share), it's been said that books were going away soon too, since forever. I still see lots of books, actual physical books. (True people love eBooks, however: physical books do not need power, do not change formats, do not stop being supported tech wise, and their files do not get corrupted. More than once I've seen someone have their eReader of choice power off & then they take out a paperback.) In fact, more books are being published than ever before. I still see plenty of BBs and not just at work, but with my non-work friends too. Most are techies who love the BB platform & security. So, I still hold out hope for Blackberry.

Yes, there are less BB vs. most other platforms, but we read. And we read a lot.

You don't need to convince me, you need to convince B&N.  Similarly, they haven't supported Windows phones either, I assume due to the same assumption that the small market share is not worth it.
