Kiddie Apps: Never Enough?

I'm not sure, but I believe there just might be enough apps for toddlers and children and the like for now. I wonder what the percentage is? I bet it's like 80% kiddie fest / 20% adult stuff.

Since adults are the ones with all the money, you'd think there would be more adult apps. Incredibly, some Nook Color owners don't have children. I know, crazy right? Either way, why is the app store so unfriendly toward those who bought the device to begin with, you know, 'adults'?

I'm not brat-bashing or anything, I'm not saying "no kiddie apps", it would just be nice if the app store had more to offer me than goo goo ga ga.

My children fall right into the demographic of those apps and I agree with you!

This is my second app complaint. Very valid.

I agree completely.  I was shopping around last night and almost everything is aimed at the Toddler set.  Trust me, I understand the desire to keep the Munchkins happy; but can you share the love with us Adult types too please?

Re: Kiddie Apps: Never Enough?

As I said on another post, I thought that the new device would be geared for the kids seeing as though most of the apps are "geared that way". So all we can do now is make our adult voice heard, and that we count too!!!

Re: Kiddie Apps: Never Enough?

I agree completely. I love my Nookcolor and use it to read every day, but some apps for adults would be nice as well. Heck, I'm not a rich person, so even if I had a toddler in my house I wouldn't let them play with a $250 piece of equipment.

Perhaps B&N will listen and get apps geared toward adults in their app store soon? Kind of like the line from Jurassic Park, "You do plan on having dinosaurs on your dinosaur tour, right?"

I used to get all excited when I heard new apps were in the market...now I hardly check anymore due to the previous disappointmens with all the kiddie apps.

Re: Kiddie Apps: Never Enough?

I haven't checked for new apps in several weeks.

-too hard to find the new ones

-nothing of interest for adults

Re: Kiddie Apps: Never Enough?

I absolutely agree. Grownups are the Nook purchasers and users. I would not let a child under 8 handle my Nook. A desktop computer is safer for small kids.  Since our house also has an iPad, I know that there are lots of useful/fun apps for adults!!!

Re: Kiddie Apps: Never Enough?

What kind of apps are you looking for? If you are looking for games, this LINK will show you all the games available right now. If you are looking for more "utlilty" apps, unfortunately, I do not know a good place to find where all the new ones show up since I work at a developer who just makes games.

Re: Kiddie Apps: Never Enough?

Yes, Enough is enough. We just got another batch and if its not kiddie its wallpapers,if not that its languages or exams. Please I'm tired of useless apps. I have not a toddler or student in my household. When I bought my NC I was told of all the great apps we were getting. Well now we have 1,800 apps and I have bought around 6 apps. I was so misled so I had to buy a IPad that delivered what it promised. So now I like another poster I rarely look anymore. I use it for reading and I'm happy with that. But please more apps for us. My 2 cents ......

Yep totally agree and gave up on B&N as they will always be slow and behind in number of apps. I gave up and was easy peasy to roll my own 8gb CM7 SD card for full android and access to android market.

Kindle app: Now can have an addtional choice for books.

Angry Birds - Yep free version and more versions available. Tho don't do games much. But many Solitare,Chess,Backgammon and Card games.

Google Streets or Google Earth - Now maps  & directions. Even Topo maps for hiking and such.

Aldiko & moon ereader apps - More customizing and reading my way.

A slew of Nikon camera & photography apps - For my photography needs.

Pdf reader apps - More apps to choose from with a lot more features.

Web Browser - Many web browers and Dolphin HD browser free and blows B&N's out of the water.

And Local App goodies - Tri-met Bus app for my bus schedules. KGW News & Weather app. So many location specific apps for info in your area.

And no biggie hold down the "n" key on boot up and have a choice to boot into B&N original OS as is not touched in any way. Or can remove the SD card and boot back normally.

Glad I did it. As GIVEN UP! on B&N's slow as a slug and little droppings speed.

Re: Kiddie Apps: Never Enough?

I agree-too many apps I have absolutely no interest in.  How many foreign language dictionaries and wallpapers do we need?  Most of the games are crappy copycat games.  And I don't consider books an app.  Most of the so called must have apps are must NOT have apps!
