As many of you already found out (before I did) MovieGallery is now available in the B&N Appstore. Of course for many of you, MovieGallery isn't new, since the free version is included on the N2A SDcards, but yesterday B&N finally activated it for the people whom are using stock NOOKs.
In order to keep the questions (and answers) a bit more organized, I figured a thread for it would work best.
*Where/How to find it?
MovieGallery is located on B&N's website here:
http://search.barnesandnoble.com/MovieGallery/Tool
To find it on your NOOK, go into the Shop, and do a search for "movie gallery" or tap "browse" > "entertainment" > "movies", and it will show up there.
*How does it work?
MovieGallery looks for MP4 movies on your NOOK, located in memory as well as on an SD if you have one, and if it finds any, it will look for matching images for them.
For more information, you can visit this link:
http://www.tools4movies.com/2011/08/moviegallery/
*Folders?
The first 2 reviews both asked about the folder selection part that can be found in the N2A/Android version. Unfortunately, B&N didn't like that part, which was partially responsible for the long time it took for them to finally accept MovieGallery in their store.
For the NOOKcolor version, I was forced to disable it. My main goal was to at least get MG activated, and now that it is, I will start working on an implementation that B&N will accept. The main issue was that the folder component provides access to all the locations on the NOOK, rather than just the user-accessible areas.
Let me know if you have any questions on MG, and I'll do my best to answer them. Of course any requests for features you would like me to add are welcome as well.

update: I just learned that B&N activated an older upload (which is why there is no free version or screenshots) which does not have the settings button for the NOOK. MG works, but things like changing the background or image size and such are currently inaccessible. I will upload an update today.

First off, thank you all for the nice reviews. I enjoy reading them
Yesterday I uploaded an update for MovieGallery (with MovieGallery Free as the trial), which has the "nook-button" in order to be able to access the settings. For some reason, B&N activated an older version of MovieGallery rather than the one I uploaded to them last.
Except for the folders part, which B&N doesn't like, it has all the features of the standard (n2a) Android version, including the background selection options, image size/display mode options etc.
If you have any questions or complications with MovieGallery, please ask them here or shoot me an email. There are a few people who posted questions in the review section, but there is nothing I can do to answer them there. There is no PM system in place there in order for me to respond.

I tried a 1204x600 resolution video, but it seems like 854x480 is stil the maximum resolution allowed.
I always thought this was a NC Gallery limitation. Is this a NC video chipset/driver limitation?

Its a driver limitation. I'm not sure why they did it that way, because the NC is quite powerful when it comes to video. When I first got it, I tried a 5Mbps video at 854x480 (overkill of course) and it played it just fine.

MovieGallery was working fine all weekend. Today it kept turning off while I was trying to look at the movie selections. Now it won't open at all. I am still running Nook 1.2 (I haven't updated to 1.3 yet.)

I'm not sure what happened. Did you add movies/remove movies, or is there an image in there that didn't copy correctly?
You can try the following:
go into apps, then long -press on the moviegallery icon and select archive.
then at the top right you should see "archived" tap on that, then long-press on moviegallery again and select unarchive.

I had to reformat my SD card because my nook was being glitchy and not reading it. I recopied my videos and images to the SD card after it was reformatted. It finally worked again after a soft reboot. MovieGallery is still being a little glitchy. It shuts off if I browse the movie selections, but it plays the movies fine. I also tried archive/unarchive.
Maybe your updated version will help. Any idea when it will be available? Thanks for any additional suggestions.

It sounds like either a corrupted image, or, if you picked up an SD card for cheap from eBay, a fake SD card. I haven't had people with NOOKs mention it to me yet, but the last couple of weeks, I have had quite a few people report issues with Android tablets and cheap 32GB sdcards they picked up online.
I uploaded the update Saturday afternoon, but I have no idea how long it takes for B&N to approve it. The times have been increasing. First it was a week, then it went up to 9 days, and the last time (the activation was 12 days. I think the update might have had something to do with that, but I am not sure.
Communication from B&N regarding the process is very limited.

Well after some trouble shooting, I discovered that there was a problem with the way a few of the files were copied. It took some work, but I was able to fix everything by recopying the problem video and picture files. It took several attempts, but my Moviegallery app it is up and running fine now. Thanks for your help!!

I'm glad its all working again for you.
I'll try to incorporate something to detect bad files.

I have no clue how B&N does this though, no matter what I try, my version still stays on 1.2.3. Archive/Un-archive, update, still the old version ![]()

You need to press the sync icon on top of the apps page to find/install updates.

I guess B&N uses multiple servers. I tried that earlier (and just now) and still no luck ![]()
They said 24-48 hours in the email, so maybe later today.

Before I wrote my post I of course first tried the update, and when I used the apps sync the update was found immediately and installed without a problem. Strange it does not work for your NC.

I have the update installed on my NC now.
I did the archive-unarchive trick again, and now I got 1.2.5 on it ![]()
Again, my apologies for the missing settings in the initial version. They are there now.
If you have played with the settings a bit to make it look all cool, please email it to me, or share it here. I got a few different ones on my website, but I'd like to see what you can come up with ![]()
To take screenshots on your Nookcolor, hold down the volume - button and tap the home (U) button. After that connect your NC to the computer, and look for your screenshot in the screenshots folder on your NC.

Downloaded the program yesterday (Tues 8/30). Can you please provide instructions on how to obtain and install the cover art for a DVD?
Many thanks,
Jim
