Any Manual Nooter for 1.3 yet?

Hi,

Just checking to see if the manual nooter for 1.2 works for 1.3, or if not, whether a new 1.3 manual nooter is out there (or in the works)?

Regards.

Re: Any Manual Nooter for 1.3 yet?

The 6.5.18 branch works and that version's gmail works, also.

The most recent branch works as well.

There is one tiny problem:  the Android Market no longer works.

There is a way to restore to stock 1.2 from CWR without overwriting your /data partition, then doing the update, then re-rooting.  You keep your root and any apps you have already installed, but you're then going to wind up sideloading any new apps you might want.

Hmm...thanks.  Do you think it is merely coincidence that the Android market no longer works?  Not trying to go all "conspiracy-theorist" here, but I'm just wondering...

Re: Any Manual Nooter for 1.3 yet?

I think it is probably coincidence and if anyone thought there was value in 1.3, they would update manual nooter.

But for most folks looking at root access, 1.3 does not seem to bring any obvious benefit.  Apparently video works better for some, so that could be a driver.

But honestly, at this point I expect that rooting stock 1.2 is probably where the devs will leave off, and further enhancements will go into CM7, Phiremod, and MIUI.

Re: Any Manual Nooter for 1.3 yet?

I had tried 4-6-16 with Dalingrin's OC kernel and Nook Tweaks. Itworked but when I tried to reboot would get stuck on Nook Color screen.  So 8 aborted boots, wiped data, put on 1.2, upgraded again to 1.3 then loaded MN 4-6-16 (I seem to have full Android market.) restored my apps, installed a couple of updates and added two new apps but did not put Dalingrin's OC on again.  Everything still seems to be running fine after a couple of test reboots.

Win!

I got to the boot loop bit after my second install and root w/o reformatting /data, then reformatted completely and went back to 1.2, which I knew worked.

Definitely sounds like a from-scratch install and root works for getting everything going.

Have people looked at Netflix on 1.3 yet?

Netflix looks and sounds great! It's a pain having to start from clean 1.2 and having to register and download everything, but it's worth having root and market access.  I used 4-6-16 manualnooter.

What about Read Instore?  Is that still there after rooting 1.3?

Thanks!

It absolutely should be - the devices still run the BN software, the difference being that you can add software from the Android market.

My rooted 1.1 and 1.2 installs always read in store as regular nook colors.

I updated to 1.3 last night and rooted successfully using Manual Nooter 4.6.16.  I then applied Dalingrin's OC kernel and am currently running at 1.2 GHz. Everything appears to be functional so far:  the new market works flawlessly (after applying the same fix for visibility as before), B&N reader software, the shop, so far all seem fine.  I've read that some have had trouble with gapps, but so far everything is working for me.  I've yet to try the read in store feature though, so I can't speak for that.

Although, I have to say that I agree with what others have said about there being little reason for rooted users to update to 1.3.  I wouldn't have even bothered if it hadn't been for another issue that popped up yesterday forcing me to do a reset.  Still, for those interested in having the "latest and greatest" it all seems to work.

I actually wanted the 1.3 update just to get the enhanced people magazine, and it was well worth it. I love the extra content so far.

Re: Any Manual Nooter for 1.3 yet?

Hi, noob here with a few questions. I've got a NC which was rooted with MN 4.6.16. Now just got update 1.3 rammed down my throat. And I find myself without Gmail & Market.

Can I just run MN 4.6.16 again from my flashed CWM SD card as per the original instructions in the link below, from steps 1-13, and get my Gmail & Market back?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054027

And if I do, will it erase all the programs and data (from the programs or games that I've played halfway)?

Thanks in advance!

If you installed and used titanium, you have a backup.

Otherwise, install the flashable 1.2

http://nookworks.blogspot.com/2011/05/clean-12-install.html

without formatting /data.

reroot and install titanium. backup, then wipe data and system, flash the clean 1.2 again, apply 1.3,

reroot using the MN you prefer, reinstall titanium, intall the apk enabler and you shuold be able to reinstall apps from backup.

http://nookworks.blogspot.com/2011/05/i-want-to-root-my-nc.html -- the third method is directed to 1.2 rather than 1.3 but includes the link to the apk enabler.  I have found that I have to use the apk enabler to restore titanium backups.

As far as I can tell, the market will work only on a clean 1.3 install followed by rooting. nookworks.blogspot.com has walkthroughs for the steps with links to files, but I have not had time to put all of this into a single entry yet.

Re: Any Manual Nooter for 1.3 yet?

I'm on 1.3.  I don't understand what I would need to do to get MN for 1.3.  I've never used MN before.  Would someone please direct me to simple instructions?

Re: Any Manual Nooter for 1.3 yet?

I am at the same point as you are Mela08. The only difference  is I have CM7 running on an SD card but really want to have the BN interface and have the Android Market.

I want to make sure like you that I have simple instructions. Also will I run into the error I did before about having "low memory" if I have a lot of apps running Manual Nooter?

These boards are so great, the people are so knowledgeable and always willing to help us.

Thanks

Hi Gina143.  I had CM7 on an sd card at one point too and went back because I missed the old interface.  It would be great to have both.

Re: Any Manual Nooter for 1.3 yet?

Guess everyone is too busy to help us. I did find this over at the DEV website, not sure I I want to try it yet but maybe you are braver that I am.

Here it the link:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054027

They are just saying we have to apply both manual nooter files. The part that I am not clear about is why the Nook needs to be connected to the computer. I have never done any rooting in the past with my nook connected. What do you think?

Let me know if you try this.
