Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

So... I tried downloading the new update. I plugged it into my computer and it kept disconnecting itself. Something went wrong and now it says I have no storage space and won't let me open any of my books.

I'm almost ready to throw it against the wall... Any tips?

Re: COMPLAINT LINE STARTS HERE.....

I am very happy with the update and only have one issue. I really liked the internet having the full website come up, now it defaults to the mobile version. I've manipulated around it on each website by clicking on their full site option, but would like to know if I can reset the NC browser itself so that it goes back to pulling up the desktop version first. Does anyone know if this is possible?

Open the browser, tap the menu icon at the top right, More options, Settings, Browser Mode, Desktop Browser Mode.

Any suggestions as to how to get rid of that stupid "Good Housekeeping Cookbook sample"???

By foisting it into my lilbrary, they have GUARANTEED I will never buy it.

I agree!! How dare they add a single book to your library! How will you find anything with that one single book being added!!  How dare they infringe on your rights as a individual in a free country by doing that!!  I think they should refund your money!!

Good grief, people.  If that is the worst thing that happns to you today, you are going to have a pretty damn good day!!

They didn't add a free book, it is just a sample and impossible to remove.  The FAQ section explains that the most you can do is remove it from the home screen and you're stuck with it unless you decide to root your device.  It's basically just an ad that we are forced to have visible in our library.  Will we be forced to sit through a video ad whenever we open a book after the next update?  Will they start to appear when we "Check for new BN content"?

Re: COMPLAINT LINE...step this way...

@DeanGibson, I finally figured this one out the other day after I tried to figure out how to remove books from my NC.  You have to log in to your account on barnesandnoble.com and go to your library and delete them.

The fact that we aren't capable of deleting them directly from the NC is beyond ridiculous!!!!  We should have full access to delete anything we want off of it!

Re: COMPLAINT LINE STARTS HERE.....

I only have one complaint about the update:

It caused a noted decrease in my book reading time last night because I was so busy playing with all the neat new stuff!!!!

Seriously, this is an e-reader first and foremost.

Do I have an app without an icon?  Sure.  Will they fix it?  Sure they will.

Am i a bit underwhelmed with the email client and lack of free calendar that can actually synch?  Sure. (no exchange or activesync?  come on.)  Will they fix that?  Probably.

Did I have to reboot my Nook before I really started to seethe performance benefits?  Yup (check with anyone who has upgraded to Froyo.  Same story.  Had to do the same on my Driod)

Overall, I am pretty pleased with what B&N has done here.  The apps available all seem to work as advertised, and fall in line with their stated "reading centric" criteria.

Will this be the last update?  Surely not.  Will this product keep getting better with each one?  Absolutely.  Will each one be perfection? You're kidding yourself if you think they will be.

Cudos B&N on a job well done (if not on time with all of our expectations!!!!)

It's not in the library on barnesandnoble.com.  Further, removing it requires root access to the device (typically by booting from another SD card), then temporarily remounting the system partition as read-write (the default is read-only, for very good reasons), and then deleting it via the linux command line.  I did that and it's gone on my NC.

I'm not upgrading (or would it be downgrading?). My only issue is everyone clogging up the boards with all these complaints:smileyhappy:

But it's not a serious ereader. The NOOK app is better. Android reader apps are way better. It's a half-baked e-reader with additonal functionality. Nothing more.

Re: COMPLAINT LINE STARTS HERE.....

I hold in my hand a 7" tablet with an incredible display.  It currently has almost 200 books loaded that I can access any time I want.  I can take some notes and higlight some phrases.  It keeps track of where I am on each book accurately.  I can adjust the font type and size as well as the backround color.  Page turns are fast.

Oh, I can also access my email, browse the web, follow my favorite RSS feeds, listen to music or watch a movie.

All on a device that is extremely portable, yet big enough that I don't need a magnifying glass to see it, or turn the page every 10 words.

Is it perfect? No, What is?  Show me the perfect digital device and I can guarntee you there are just as many people complaining about it as there are complaining about this one.

Does it do everything I would like an e-reader to do and more?  Sure it does.  And I only paid $250 for it.  No contracts.

Well, since I am one of those who has complained about this, perhaps I can explain my issue a bit better for you.

1. At first glance this appeared to be some sort of a "bug" as this looks like a book, talks like a book, but does not react like a book,  and that is exactly what Customer Service told me last night if you bother to read my thread regarding this.

2. Unlike the User Guides, which contain useful information, this is a sample that does not contain much and that you can't even buy, should you like the sample, from the sample itself.  I will grant you that some of these recipes look good.

3. If you like the notion of BN dropping any type of advertising material on your Nook at any time that you can't control, then more power to you, but some of us don't think that is proper.

This is exactly what bothers me.  It may be the start of a very bad trend.  They were very careful to put it where it cannot be removed or hidden!

Three things:

  1. Fix the video codecs (or whatever is causing the jerkiness on playback).
  2. Fix the ebook reader.  Shouldn't it be at least on par with the Android B&N reader app?
  3. Allow us to delete your ads (cookbook) from our device.
  4. Profit!  :smileywink:

Re: COMPLAINT LINE STARTS HERE.....

I'm concerned the Nookcolor will never have a chat app or programs with notifications like the iPhone.

You get notifications from the apps and they appear in the bottom menu.

It is better to have loved your nook and lost,
than never to have loved your nook at all.
