Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

What color is the LED on the end of the cord when it's discharging?

Try unplugging all the connection points and reset them.

I had this problem.  All of a sudden my PC quit recognizing my NOOKcolor when I plugged it in.  What happened is I plugged it into the usb, it said it was recognized and the said the usb device stopped working.  Well, I plugged it into the wall charger and into an outlet and looked into device settings and it said "not charging".

Well, luckily for me (after initial panic) I have a nook and a family member also has a NOOKcolor-tried plugging the nook cord into it and connected to PC and all was fine.  Used the other NC's cord to plug into the wall outlet and it was charging.  Moral of the story is it sounds like a bad cord.  Do not use just any such cord (like the standard nook cord) in its place.  If you don't have another spare NC laying around, go to a BN store if possible and have them plug in a different cord to check it and see if it then says, "charging" and then ask them to exchange the cord.  You might need your receipt with you just in case.

Re: Color nook discharging

When it is discharging it is green. I've tried numerous times to plug in it and it still says discharging. Any other ideas? Does the same whether plugged into the computer or the wall outlet.

As @deemure said in the previous post - it sounds like a defective USB cable.  Take it, the charger, and your NOOKColor to your nearest B&N store and see if they can help you.  If a store in not convenient then give Customer Service a call (1-800-THE-BOOK).

Re: Color nook discharging

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I sent an email yesterday to BN and got an answer this morning. They want me to call and talk to someone in their digital department. The person who sent the email said it is probably the cable too but I would have to call and talk to them first before they would send me a new one. Thanks again for everyones help.
