Re: Gallery App Recommendation

This is weird.

I am using open office to write the HTML file.  After checking for type-os and mistakes (I've done this a dozen times in the last hour) I side load it to the NC.  I tap the file.  It opens the browser and, instead of a webpage as the Capt, it displays the code in the browser.  There are random characters in the code (= , ; etc, ie: "fon=t").  These mistakes are not in the file on my desktop, and are different each time I go through this process.

I hadn't downloaded-I'm OC about reading this forum-- it but have now done so.  I had my daughter do it as she has built websites.  She highlighted the entire file as Captain printed it, saved the file first to notepad (didn't change anything) then saved it to the "wherever" (she used the desktop) and then I dropped it to the NC.  It opens fine.  But remember to save it as whatevernameyouwant.html

What exactly did you type?  Did you include all the <> that were in the original?

Please thank your daughter for doing that.  I just tried exactly what she did.  I highlighted Capt's code and copied it to am html file on my desk top, S/L to NC and tried to open it.  Still just get the code displayed.

Does the file open on your desktop?  Are you using Windows or Mac?  Which browser?  Can you copy the file here so we can see what you have?  Did you delete the old files from your NC?  Sometimes they go to old files thinking they are the same.

By the way, she says it has to be saved to Notepad or Dreamweaver before dropping the saved file to the desktop. It won't work from Word or Office.  It should look like a browser icon on your desktop once you drop it there.  Mine is Firefox but it opens in any of the 4 browsers I have.  Then I just dropped it from my desktop to the NC.

Re: Gallery App Recommendation

Guys

For a PC based program try http://newsrobot.com/imageindex/

Put your pics in a folder, run this program and it will generate the HTML.

It creates all the links and allows multiple configurations.

Note it is basic HTML.

As for other programs try PhotoVault which allows you to password protect selected pictures.

Gallery Excluder that allows very quick and easy .nomedia file placement to block selected folders from Gallery.

The link doesn't show it compatible with Windows 7 or Vista.  Gallery Excluder looks interesting for those of us that are using the Android platform and not the NC.

Re: Gallery App Recommendation

I have used the Image Index from the beginning

Works fine on 98-Win 7.

Way back when I was playing City of Heros/Villians I made a site for the Toons of friends and others that I teamed with.

http://www.whyy.net/Cohgirls/imageindex.html

That is just a very basic run with the setting 2 x 2

Gallery Excluder is for the Android so to use it you would have to be rooted.

Best bet for simple editing is NOTEPAD and select save as "All Files"  If you select save and then html, it saves as XXXX.HTML.TXT   The browser must see <HTML> as the first characters and HTML as the file type.  Yes, it will open text files and show them, but not run them.

ALSO, the path is file:///mnt/media/My%20Files/ALBUM NAME/album/index.html or you can just use file://media/My Files, etc. I got the "mnt" from a tech note.

Yes, on your pc, it is E:MyNOOKcolor\media\My Files, but the NC doesn't know about drives a-b-etc.

if you don't use exact file:///mnt/media/My Files, OR file:///media/my files,  etc. it won't work.

file and 3 slashes (not 2).  note also the slashes are different htan windoes (DOS) slashes, but the browser converts them; see the browser url window.

This may break with updates... 1.1 used a different path structure.

JALBUM.NET has iPad as well as PC/Mac versions.  And you can create right to a web site as well as use the app  and save the albums to your folder.

For advanced photogs, you can use skins that show exif data, gps coordinates, link to google maps, music, video, etc.

And even with the simple skins, one can add captions and text on any image.

You can link to scaled images (I choose 900x600), or the full size images. and 5 columns by n rows for the thumbnails.

I can't think of anything more tha tis needed.

WAIT... I'd like a skin that had the thumbnails on the side, so I can use a larger image and view

in landscape.

I sent the develper a donation last year and I'm sure he'd appreciate one from you.

P.S. As I'm doing this write up on the fly, I'll take some time and better document using JALBUM.NET and testout some other options.  But the weather is so good and the sailing is great, so it may take a while.

P.P.S. HEY ADMIN; give JALBUM.NET a look-see and perhaps they can help build a real gallery app.

7 & 0 and still on the go.

Thanks for the information!  We hadn't thought about the file being saved as html instead of just a regular save.  My daughter has been going crazy trying to figure out what could have gone wrong or what the varible was to cause the code to come up instead of the website--we couldn't emmulate it.  I know from my programming days, that a space or any character that is off makes a huge difference and that we don't usually catch our own errors no matter how many times we look, even when I edited other peoples work for a living, errors got through.

Re: Gallery App Recommendation

if you use notepad you will have to go back and change the file name.

Notepad will append the .txt to the end of whatever you type in.

No real issue but just a extra step.

Re: Gallery App Recommendation

Thank you all for your help.  I finally got it working.  I still get the "Choose a network to complete your task." box for every action when out of wi-fi range or wi-fi is turned off.

IE: touch PIX.html, get the box, touch done, page loads.

Touch an album name on the page, get the box, touch done, album loads.

Touch a thumbnail to enlarge, get the box, touch done, enlarged picture displays.

Touch the back arrow, box, done, thumbnails display.

And on and on...

It can be a PIA, but it still works better than Gallery.  And someday, I'm sure, I'll figure out how to get around the dreaded box.

But for now, it works!

Thanks all for all the help, you kept me from giving up.

Re: Gallery App Recommendation

In Notepad, select SAVE AS: Under File Type select "All Files"  under name "PIX.html"

Notepad will not append TXT

7 & 0 and still on the go.
