Gallery App was all I wanted!

I have been patient. I didn't scream and stamp my feet (much as I wanted to). I simply checked every few days since buying my nook color for the update the store clerk said was imminent in December.  I only had a few features that I cared about beyond being able to read nook books.  I wanted to read my RSS feeds.  I wanted to read and send e-mails.  I wanted to read all the PDFs that I downloaded.  But honestly, if it came down to it, I do that stuff from my phone.

The one thing I just KNEW was going to come with this update was a way to sort gallery images.  You see, I'm an artist and I carry a LOT of photo references. I carry them on my phone and on my laptop. The laptop is not always convenient and the phone is too small.  The gallery viewer was a MAJOR selling point for my choosing the Nookcolor.  Then, the first time I open it after loading all the images, I find that I can't sort them. So, whenever I open it, all of the images of butterflies, wildflowers, clouds, dilapidated houses show up interspersed with all of the figurative nudes.  I have to scroll through everything to find a relevant image.  I can't even look through the folders because they don't preview the image.  Only the gallery shows the images and it shows them all at once.

Not only did that not get updated, but I can't even go to the app store and BUY something that will do this.  But by gods, you got yer danged angry birds.

Anyone know of an app available to this that I might just be missing?

Re: Gallery App was all I wanted!

I'm not as frustrated as the contributor above, but I do agree--we really need a way to sort/organize our gallery soon..

Please consider.  Thanks so much!

Re: Gallery App was all I wanted!

From what I can tell the app isn't there for that.  I've been waiting to buy a nc but held off because file management into folders were important for me as well for photos.  I am still debating to go with the nc or something else.  The only hope I see is if they release an app that does this.  They do have them in the android market, but I didn't see it in the nook market.

It seems like such a basic feature.  If they're marketing it as a E-Reader Tablet I would have thought they would have included it.  From what I've read, it has been long requested.

Re: Gallery App was all I wanted!

If you root you can install a better gallery app. I've read that Just Pictures is a good one.

Re: Gallery App was all I wanted!

...because every other device I have with a gallery has a basic file management system.  If it were just to be a wallpaper viewer, they might have called it such.

Honestly, the feel and quality of the nook color make reading quite enjoyable.  However, it was the fact that they were going to update and get the app store that made me purchase this over the cruz.

I too would be willing to pay for a decent gallery app.  Are there any developers listening????

Re: Gallery App was all I wanted!

I too thought a bit of organization was needed on the nook without having it wired to a computer. My HP 211 could do this and it was a built in function. I mean would you buy a computer that couldn't copy, paste, delete? The reason I bought a nook color was the screen size for reading my news sites like fark but my ipaq does more basic functions than my nook without downloading additional apps.

I sort image files by side-loading them in folders I create in library/myfiles/pictures/. Admitedly, there are a few extra touches to go from one image to "Quick Nav Bar/library" to the next folder and image, but I find it workable.

How do you know which image you're opening? My files don't preview in the folders. There's no "back" button to take you back to the folder after viewing, and the image wouldn't scroll after opening. How many photos do you carry and use this way?

Re: Gallery App was all I wanted!

It is a basic function! Do we need to spell out cut, copy, paste, new folder? Do we need to download simple common organization functions? We gave B&N extra time (well they took it) and they still had a mess.

Re: Gallery App was all I wanted!

The file management and viewing on the NC is joke - there are also a zillion other problems with this system, particularly when it comes to managing side-loaded content. NC is not a 'poor man's tablet' - it's  a crappy reader and a crappy tablet with crappy chinzty support.

These deficencies have caused me to pretty much abandon my NC and I won't be buying another Nook of any sort again. Want a reader? Get a Sony. Want a Tablet? Get an IPad.

Re: Gallery App was all I wanted!

And you posted this why?? I can tell you of crappy tablets and their are far more things nookcolor offers that some of the other high priced tablets neglect. Not everyone can afford an Ipad and I can  speak of the tablets and ipads someone that own them your comments have no meritt I own a viewsonic android tablet too and the NC blows it out of the water hands down so before you need to stir drama up here do you homework a little.

Another troll invents an account just to post his "I Love iPad and hate Nook" nonsense.  You're a crappy person with crappy opinions.  You know who disagrees with you? Almost every person in the media who has reviewed the Nook Color. But I suppose a moron like you doesn't read much anyway.  Who on EARTH are YOU to command me, if I want a tablet, to give up the Nook, which I've found works great, to abandon it for an oversized, clunky iPad?

Re: Gallery App was all I wanted!

People do have a right to express a negative opinion!  That user may be a troll, or may be a very dissatisfied user, either way, WHY  bother with such a harsh response?  If you disagree with them, and believe them to be a troll, a rebuttal like that is exactly what they want.  If they are a dissatisfied user, then this attack is unwarranted.  Is the NookColor the greatest thing since sliced bread?  Its good, but there is room for improvement in both hardware, and software development.  The gallery has been one area where people wanted improvement, and there are some good options out there.  Why arent they in the app store? Because you cant just walk up to B&N and say "here, post my app", it doesnt work that way.  The Guys from DVD Catalyst have gotten a new gallery app in the store, and that may well be worth taking a look at as a replacement to stock gallery.  Is the hardware a piece of junk? NO, it was developed at a time when it was well ahead of the other guys, look how long its taken the others to catch up.  Do the chargers suck? Many would say so, mine still works, but I charge at night when I'm sleeping, no problems so far.  If the device and software were perfect, this forum would see a lot less activity.

Re: Gallery App was all I wanted!

Robert, we are not attacking the OP who mentioned the very-valid point of needing a better gallery app. We're attacking the troll who said there are a "zillion problems" with it, that it's a "crappy reader and tablet" and that we should all ditch it and buy an iPad instead.
