I was flipping through TV channels tonight and HSN was selling the Nook Color for $299! They said it was a bargain at that price because the "retail value" was $504! Oh, they were throwing in a 2GB micro SD card which costs, what, about $12 anywhere else.
A $261 value for just $299. What a rip..... How do they get away with that? Isn't saying the retail value is $504 false advertising?

What do you even care? Your tagline states you don't own a NOOKcolor anyway.
We've been over this 100 times before. How do you get away with that?
The 100 books included are those that BN normally sells for around $3.99 each or so and are professionally formatted and contain additional content not found in free versions available elsewhere. That makes the value of the books perhaps about $400, but only if a person wants them. If the deal isn't for you, and it appears no NC deal is, then aren't there better things to be doing?![]()

Not to mention that the HSN forums would be the place to pitch this particular fit.
I don't think BN sets pricing standards for other vendors who sell the NC.
Though I certainly hope that BN is selling the NC to HSN at full retail rather than any kind of discount they might have running with a retailer like Best Buy who are at least selling the kit at a fair price.

OMG!!! How DARE you say anything against the Nook Color if you don't even own one!!
As for the price, need I remind you they are PRICELESS!! (Tongue firmly in cheek)
As for HSN, they have a tendency to "over sell" things shall we say? I think most of them are "politicians in training", coming to a campaign near you soon!

Here we go again!
Someone please kill this thread.
And to the OP - what's with the tagline? I don't think there will ever be a tablet maker stating that.

I hope you are joking with that lead in sentence, because the OP did not say anything remotely bad about the nook color. The second sentence seems to indicate a joke, although my NC is more or less priceless to me... The third sentence just brushes over the only point of the OP in agreeance, but indicating it is of no concequence.
I must say, your post is most confusing to me. I can't figure out which group of sheep from which side of the fence you are trying to bait. (It's just a metaphor, I'm not calling anyone sheep) I'm having a hard time identifying the sarcasm if there was any.

Chuck, you're overthinking that way too much.
Also, as a Registered Nook Fanboy, I have to say: it is a bad idea to complain about pricing on the nook color, no matter what that pricing is.
Remember, it's a superior replacement to the inferior Apple product. Since it is superior, we should be delighted to be allowed to pay more for it than for anything else. Up to and including advanced figher aircraft.

yeah, I know. Just trying to figure out the angle, that's all. Mostly because as a recently re-regestered fanboy, It is important to me that other fanboys at least try to include just a little bit of logic in their pro NC rants, so as to not negatively affect perception of the rest of us as a group. My main problem is I don't usually have touble telling sarcasm from how a person really feels, but in the case of Wild_images' response to the OP, I really have no idea. All I want to know is was it sarcasm?
But yeah, there was never any doubt even in my mind that I wasn't seriiously overthinking the post. It's a vice. Just havn't found the right 12 step program.

I saw the HSN sales pitch the other night and made an impulse purchase (which I later cancelled). I should have done some investigating on my own first. I wrote to B&N customer support to ask what the NOOK from HSN had that the one sold through them didn't. I understand that HSN included a $14.95 Micro-SD card and the 100 books (nice to have but not worth jacking up the price from what B&N sells their color NOOK for). But the reply from B&N stated:
As part of the offer (the Nook offered by HSN), all NOOK Colors sold on HSN will include a Micro-SD card featuring 100 pre-selected NOOK books; the SD card will be packaged separately from the NOOK Color in the same shipping container. HSN customers also will be first to receive the much anticipated NOOK Color software update version 1.2 (seems like this update is also available to B&N NOOK customers or did I miss something?)
HSN catalog will offer an assortment of both free and paid apps. The cost of paid apps will vary and will be determined by the third party developers and publishers delivering their applications. Can anyone tell me exactly what apps the HSN NOOK has that the B&N one does not?
I am a total newbie, so I would really appreciate more input. Just wondering if purchasing the NOOK from HSN at $50.95 more than the B&N price is worth it. Oh, BTW, I wrote to HSN about the price difference and what made them feel that the total value of the NOOK they offer is $504 retail and they said part of what I would be paying for was the ability to pay it off in installments--whoopee!

It is up to you to decide what is a deal for you personally. Some did appreciate the 100 books, some HSN claims were over the top, and I'm not at all sure B&N is going to give information on what deals or no deals any other vendor has on their products. I'd think they'd refer you to HSN for the complete info.
My main thought has always been for anyone (the OP) that goes crazy about this is still, what does it matter to you? How is it hurting you? If you think it's horrible you won't buy it. If you think it's a good deal, you might. If you then find out it's not the deal you thought it was, the problem lies with HSN.
If, however, tomorrow B&N posts on this website that there's a sale on NOOKcolors and you can get one for $249, a steal based on the real value of $500, and you bought it, complain if you like. If you have no intention of buying a device though, I see it as totally counterproductive and a complete waste of time and effort to complain about what some other company is selling it for.
This has nothing to do with whether or not B&N has done everything correctly about everything. For the record, they haven't. This thread was about what another company was doing and I sincerely doubt HSN officials are running over here to see what B&N customers are saying.

Goodness! All I wanted to know was what apps HSN might be offering that I'd have to buy separately. I am new to this forum and have never owned a reader tablet. I certainly didn't expect to get lectured about posting a simple question. I don't know how you're fixed for money; but I'm not a member of the Forbes richest people in the world club. I just want to know about the apps that I might have to purchase if I buy the NC from B&N. If you think I can find my answers within prior posts, I'd certainly be grateful if you could point me in the right direction--I saw HSN in this stream and posted my question--no one twisted your arm to write such a lengthy response.

The ones on HSN don't have any apps the one sold by Barnes and Noble don't have. They all come preloaded with a few, and anything else you need to purchase or download yourself.
What the NookColor sold by HSN does have is that microSD card preloaded with classic books. They are all books from the public domain, but they have been cleaned up and formatted, and have extra information with them. Each of the books is sold by Barnes and Noble, normally for $3.99 if I'm not mistaken. I don't remember how many come on the microSD card, but it's either 50 or 100. I, personally, don't read the classics as much as I probably should, and therefore wouldn't find the deal worthwhile, but there are others who do, and will, find it worthwhile to get the books that way.
Another thing that HSN offers that Barnes and Noble doesn't is convenience in the multipayments.
I did try to, for you, find a link to a free classic in the same style as the ones offered on the SD card by HSN, but my internet at home has started to act up. You can download the NookStudy application, which does come with two classic books for free. Those books are the same "series" as the ones that HSN gives with the NookColor. That will give you an idea of the style and quality of the free classics you would be receiving with the NookColor provided by HSN.

Most of what I said was not directed at you. I'd posted previously about the books that were included-they are B&N special versions that normally cost $3.99 apiece.
You are new to this so it's not directed at you, but it has been talked about in many, many threads. The point is HSN does overhype things and it's up to the individual to discern if the deal works for them or not. Many claims by HSN were not accurate, but that does not mean it was not worthwhile for some to buy from there.

Thanks for the explanation--I know how forums are, there are posts that have answered questions over and over again; but people still ask the same questions. My big problem was that I didn't know how to search for what it was I wanted. I am a little techno challenged when it comes to apps and features--probably won't use most of them even if I do get the info I am looking for, LOL!
Can you answer this one for me--the B&N agent said that "HSN customers also will be first to receive the much anticipated NOOK Color software update version 1.2". Wouldn't B&N be selling the NC with this update already installed?
Have a good evening!

The long answer is YES. As to whether the HSN price is worth it, in my opinion, the long answer is NO.
Sometimes we all are in a mood to ramble, and today was Deemure's turn. A couple days ago it was my turn. The only thing is, no one laughed at my jokes.
Acer Iconia A500 (two): Android 4.0.3 rooted;; Nook Color: B&N 1.4.3 rooted
Nook Touch (two): B&N 1.2.1 rooted; Nook 1stEd/3G (two): B&N 1.7.0 rooted.
Customer loyalty is earned, not commanded or deserved, and easily lost.
Nothing is foolproof, because fools are so ingenious. Same for rooters.
