Has Customer Service Told Anyone How They Will Handle Re-Registrations?

If I remember correctly, if you manually reset your device to factory settings, you can't re-register it until you deregister it in your BN.COM account...

Seeing as how the NookColor can only be deregistered from the NookColor itself or with the assistance of Customer Support, does that mean that after the servers are back up everyone is going to have to call Customer Support so they can get their NookColors deregistered so they can re-register them?

I hope not.  If you can't get through to customer service now, can you imagine what it will be like for most of us to have to call and have our NC's deregistered and re-registered.  It will take forever.

If you go to your account settings on bn.com, and then click on Digital Management/My NOOK, it shows the Nooks registered to your account, and has a clickable link to deregister your Nook.

I'm not going anywhere near that link just yet, but it sure looks like we don't need CS to deregister for us.

Here in rainy seattle, good days are days that involve sitting by the window watching the rain fall outside with my nook color!

That's what I'm wondering too.  I haven't turned on wifi yet today, nor have I downloaded the update. I'm curious if (or how) my NC will be affected once the "system maintenance" is over.

I was told by CS that this wasnt maintenance, but that something went wrong and that they do not know how to fix it.

If you click the deregister link, you get this message...direct and complete quote:

"Deregister your NOOKcolor by tapping on the Settings icon in the Quick Nav bar. Tap the "Device Info" menu option, then "Erase & Deregister Device". Tap the "Erase & Deregister Device" button to deregister your NOOKcolor. If your NOOKColor is not available and you need to disable account access, please contact customer service toll-free at 1-800-THE-BOOK (843-2665)."

I didn't think that link really did anything. I tried it once last week and it didn't de-register a thing.

Wow! All I can say is "wow". I guess B&N should stick to real books. They seem like they're in over their heads.

Unfortunately I have no "Quick Nav Bar" since everything was erased. So that means those of us that did have our wi-fi on are in a heap of hurt doesn't it?

You don't remember it correctly.    A factory reset will clear the nook's memory of your account, but you can simply re-register it and it will take even if you didn't unregister it before the reset.   I've done this several times.

NOW, if B&N's servers are down...that's another whole story, if they're down, you can't register it no matter what.

Can't imagine why you would have to deregister if your nook did not reset and you are not having any problem.

Thank you for being brave! I wasn't touching that link!

Hmmm...when I go to My Nook on bn.com, it's completely blank.  No NOOK registered at all currently.

Re: Has Customer Service Told Anyone How They Will Handle Re-Registrations?

And BN's nook servers are down.

My NC was not reset, though I do seem to have lost icons for two of the apps I bought yesterday.  Weird.  I did the update manually on Monday.  My NC is not rooted.

But the storefront is either "not available" or wants me to connect to a different hotspot because they're having trouble with my connection.   My connection is fine, as easily demonstrated by going on the web.

I've turned off the wifi after coming here and seeing how much trouble other people are in, and hope that everything will be sorted out before too long.  I've also backed up all my sideloaded data to the sd card, just in case.   I suggest that anyone whose NC is still working do a backup.

I hope that once the BN servers are back up they won't send out another round of reset commands!

Re: Has Customer Service Told Anyone How They Will Handle Re-Registrations?

I can't access my books from my PC or phone - any of the ones I haven't already downloaded on them, that is. Which means the current book I was reading I can't get to on anything for now - not my phone, my PC or my Nook Classic. Bummer!

Re: Has Customer Service Told Anyone How They Will Handle Re-Registrations?

You have to back up manually.  Attach  your NC to your computer with the USB cable.  It will show up as one external drive "media", or two external drives (Media and a letter, often "G") if you have an SD card installed.  If  you want to back your content up to your SD card, highlight the files on the "media" drive and copy them to the SD card.  If you want to backup to your computer, create a folder called "Nook Backup" there, and then copy the files to it.

Done.  Eject the NC from your computer, and disconnect the cable.

Re: Has Customer Service Told Anyone How They Will Handle Re-Registrations?

No you will go through the registration process just like the first time.

I've rooted and unrooted my NC 5 or 6 times and never had to deregister and it reg'd right back up.
