Someone else has mentioned this idea in this post but I would like to see the option of having a black background with white text. Before I had my nookcolor, I had a pandigital ereader. It had a day read/night read option which allowed you to change from black text/white background to white text/black background. This was very nice for reading in bed.

It does.
With a page open, tap near the bottom of the page or in the center. It will bring up a quick menu box. Tap the text icon.
Below the box with the name of the font you will see the word "Normal." Tap on Normal and it brings up a list of various background and font color combinations. Night is the second one.
Then just tap elsewhere on the page to close the box.

+1 as someone who wants my apps (and data) on my device, not cloud-based. I recently got an Android smartphone, but do not sync my contacts, appointments or docs to Google's cloud. They exist only on my mobile device and my laptop.

I'm going to chime in and also request better pdf support. Page turning should be the same as ebooks. It should remember where you are in the book. And it should be able to show the covers of pdf's.

Hopefully the devs still look at this. But I've noticed several screens/prompts lack a back or cancel button/method. For instance if you long press while in the browser inadvertently there's no way to cancel. Some of the setting screens have no back or cancel method either.
For instance while in the browser settings once you get to the website settings you can't go back.
Someone mentioned a soft key back method by swiping the lowerleft corner I think but it just seems to bring up the notifications.
There needs to be a system back button/method.

I really hope that the ability to change background and font colors to any color becomes available. I have a special needs child that has trouble reading, and color overlays (especially blue) help her reading ability. The ability to do this with my NC through software would be very helpful: it is, after all, available on the Nook iPhone app.

Control the order of the shelves (other than alphabetical).
What you can do is when you name the shelf start with a number. Shelves will then be in numerical order, not alphabetical order.

Primarily I want to be better able to browse unread books when I'm looking for something to read on my nook! It's quickly becoming unmanagable. I have organized shelves now, but that is really too cumbersome. I'd like:
- Ability to sort by genre
- Ability to sort by more than one method - let us pick 1st sort then 2nd sort.
- But most importantly... Ability to easily mark read books Then we need the ability to either sort on that, or have the ability to "show unread books" and then sort on genre or author or whatever.
Or, maybe this could all be accomplished by letting us assign tags. Then we could set up what we find useful. One tag could be "Read" or "Unread", and another could be the genre, or whatever so when we're looking for something to read we can isolate out what we want to browse through!

All good ideas, canytkd!
When e-readers had a very limited storage capacity, these considerations didn't matter as much.
But as their ability to store content expands, from 6,000 books internally to 5x that externally, having powerful and easy to use features to manage and organize that content will become increasingly critical for a successful product.

when using the internal dictionnary, allow input of any word using the keyboard. This feature is already available on the original Nook

It needs better sound firmware for music/radio etc. Whatever I try (Headphones etc.) it sounds very tinny. I cannot get a 'fuller' sound from the Nook Color, compared to other gadgets and mobile phones. Perhaps B+N saved a bit on manufacture cost or just need to tweak the settings.
