Important Message for All Users-IMO

Lately there has been an increase in nonsensical posts that include insulting remarks that appear to be from different users, but in fact are most likely from one user.

This person routinely gives out misinformation and such.  The real potentially dangerous thing the user does is posts links to websites that may or may not contain material harmful to your computer.

The person will post a link that looks like they mean to help, but they have proven to be anything but a help.

Before you click on any link that someone posts, it may be best to review the user's history and judge whether you think you can trust the person posting the link.  It's of course also best to have adequate protection in place such as anti-spyware, av, firewall, anti-malware. 

It may also be best when using information that someone has posted to look over their past posts and see if the info is credible.

My question would be "how do I know that person X is a trustworthy source"?

I have been popping in and out since December but I am not familiar with names and personalities. I just read the post and see if I can get anything good from there.

Great post Deemure.  I know that some of you have sent messages to the Moderator or Admin. in the past asking for help with this situation.  I wanted to add my 2cents, so I just sent an email to both Jeremy Cesarec and Nook_Engineer reporting this individual(s?).  Not that they will listen to me, but I would encourage everyone else to do the same.  Maybe if they receive a flood of personal messages regarding this problem, they will finally stand up and listen.  All we can do is try.

Post-count is something you can use as a start. Not that new users are bad, but if someone with a post-count of 1 posts a link to an unknown website it always rings a bell in my head.

Then there is the golden rule:

If something sounds to good to be true, it usually is. Especially with "free" stuff.

I have been making use of the "report abuse" function for all 3 of this user's ID's and will continue to do so until something is done.  I will also draft a PM to the admins (all of them if needed) later tonight.  I was going to do this last night but got busy with my kids.

@deemure - I was actually debating making a post about this as well.  glad you did it because I would have listed all the user ID's that are currently known as well.

You can also click on the members name and it will take you to their profile. You will find their recent posts and can click on "view all"  at the bottom right

This will give you an idea of how they tend to post. .

Great points and I am sure there are other new folks on this forum who aren't as savvy as some of the helpful, long time users of this board!

It is also a good tip to never download anything that you don't totally trust the source. Just because it is listed on the Nook Color Discussion board doesn't mean that the user is absolutely trustworthy. Always check out the source before you download anything and if you don't know who posted it, DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT :-)

WOW!!!!! This is so sad.  I went on this discussion board in hopes of finding some nice people who I could learn from and have fun.  This is such a disappointment.  I'm a newbie, so I don't know the good witch from the bad witch. I was hoping for some advice about re-rooting after the update.  Now I'm just paranoid.  Why does someone always have to ruin it for the others.  Haven't we grown up yet?

Yes, she/he is up to three.  He/she created the user ID TheKaptain earlier today, there was a sig tag line that gave it away (it was specific towards deemure).  You already know the other 2 that melouria mentioned in a prior post.
