Is there a retractable cable that actually works with NC?

I liked the idea of getting a second, retractable charge/sync cable for my Nook Color.  They're up on Ebay and all over the web, for cheap, so I ordered one.

As I halfway suspected, it was just a standard micro-USB cable -- handy for my DroidX but no good on the NC.

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of items for sale as Nook Color cables are similarly bogus (example: http://is.gd/WHnj4w).

Has anyone ordered a retractable cable for the NC that is the real deal?  Does such a thing exist?

Welcome jlh. :smileyhappy: the thing about the NC USB cable is it has a cpl extra conections on it to boost the current for charging. You can use any standard micro USB for PC/MAC connection

Rather than trying to find a retractable cable, why not use something like this to make your normal NookColor cable into a retractable one?  http://www.quirky.com/products/1-Sling-Back-Automatic-Cable-Winder?r=ce5fc14380417fb91f595baecfc332b...

Thanks phoneboy, I just keep learning great things today. I get tired of plugging the NC cable into my PC, now I can use one of my other ones. :smileywink:

Whaaa?  They make such a big hairy deal, in the manual and online (http://is.gd/VkBQan) about never plugging in a standard micro-USB cable.  I've been afraid I'll damage the female (NC) end of the connection by even attempting it.

A standard micro-USB cable will not only fit, but sync and charge as well?

I use standard microusb cables for syncing and keeping the battery from draining to fast while in use. I only fully charge my NC with the official cable/charger. Just to be safe...

Re: Is there a retractable cable that actually works with NC?

I'm no expert but I would only use a non NC USB for syncing not maitaining a charge while using it. My reasoning is that the NC requires more juice when in use than the standard cable is capable of putting out(chk device info and it will say discharging more often then not). I would be concerned that that may put undue stress on the charging circuit... A Stadard USB WILL slow charge while NC is asleep.  JMHO
