Are you rooted? I've heard of people getting random reboots on rooted NCs.

Mine has done it twice over the last few days. I am not rooted. It's frustrating when it happens because I am usually reading a book!

I've been having the same issue over the course off a week or so - and it seems completely random... reading a book or on the web. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Experienced this last night for the first time: At the end of a crossword the thing totally shut down and re-booted. Was displaying a new puzzle when it came back on. Oh well - whatever works!

Mine is doing it every 2 minutes if I'm plugged in. I can't charge it. I just bought it and it's out of the box new. No root or anything. I might return mine and just wait for them to work out the bugs. It's already crashed a dozen times while trying to open a book, download another one, and won't work for more than a minute on reading a kids book. I can't even download the newer firmware of V1.1 because it shutsdown every minute if plugged into my PC.

Just get them to replace it under warranty. That is NOT normal behavior. I've had my NC from the beginning and it has NEVER done that.

My husband brought mine to the store and the rep informed if it continues to do the same thing, return it. On Saturday night I thought it was working fine and it began to power off. On Sunday, I returned to the store and spoke with a rep on the phone who advised me a new one would be shipped out the following day and I could return the old one. I was thinking maybe it had a virus or something and that was the problem but I spoke with another rep who advised me there was no way it could have a virus.

I was hoping this was not going to be a problem for me; but alas, last night I was just finishing a game of Sudoku, when my screen went completely blank. It is not "rooted". I completely lost my game, and it took a few seconds before it reloaded "my reading now page". I'm beginning to think there is more to this issue and B&N will need to address it quite quickly.

I had this problem too, but got mine replaced. Before sending it in, I noticed that if I barely brushed the power button it would turn it off. Not sure if that was the actual defect, but it was annoying.

I had this problem with my Nook color. I had one of the first ones on Nov. 16, 2010. Took it back to my BN store. They worked with me in store trying to find the cause. Finally, it was determined that the power cord/charger wasn't connecting correctly to the device. The internal pins on the device had bent. I never thought this was the problem because the battery life display always read 100% charged. At one point, the device completely froze and had to be soft booted. BN gave me a new one-on the spot. I have not had a problem since. I love my Nookcolor!

I've had my nook since Christmas also and about two weeks ago that started happening to me. Eventually it just froze completely. I called 1-800-the book and they sent me a new one via UPS in two days. In the meantime, my son just held down the on/off button and the home button for a while on the old one and it unlocked and was working well (but I had to send it back when I received the new one in the mail).

My non rooted Nook was also having the same problem. I took mine back to my local store and I did the rapid replacement. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with it, so I an getting a new one and will return the old one via UPS.

Over the past two weeks my non-rooted Nook Color has begun to randomly power down on its own. At first I thought it was due to low battery conditions but evern with a full or nearly full charge it will randon pop up the "Do you want to power down" dialog box. Sometimes when I select "Cancel" it will resume normal operation, other times when I select "Cancel" it will power down anyway. Other times it will power down without opening the dialog box. Frustrating. I bought it at Christmas so I am not sure that B&N store will allow an exchange.

This was happening to my hubby's device so he called CS and they ran him through several steps then finally said...we are shipping you out a new device. It was here within 5 days and he immediately shipped his back.
The warranty on his original device, which was the paid extended 2 yr warranty, was transferred to the new device.

Mine has done it a couple of times, only when I'm doing a Sudoku puzzle. I'm paying attention to it now, and if it starts doing it more regularly, CS will be getting a call.

I have the same problem with my Nook Color. Have had it since Christmas and it is non-rooted. Like you mention if you light brush the power button it shuts off. This just started happening. At first I thought maybe it was shutting down due to a low battery, but the problem persists even after being fully charged. Now it has begun freezing. Yesterday it froze twice on me, it becomes stuck on a page and becomes unresponsive. The page will not turn forward or backwards, no response to the menu button. Plugged in the power cord and it didn't register it was charging finally held down the power button to turn on and off to see if this would correct the problem. Then it went crazy and powered on and off about 10 times. I have not dropped it, wet it, etc. Wonder what the deal is. I'm going to Barnes and Nobles store to sort out. Please let me know what happened when you went with yours.
