Re: Ok, the HSN version was not overpriced because...

I got my NC today from HSN. I got an SD card which gave me an instant classic library of nook formatted books. When I stopped into B$N the tech looked at the library & said some of these books are $3 but some cost more, So that is worth $300 as my math goes. The shipping was $11.95 and no tax. All this for $75! Of course I have several more payments but was able to afford a case now. So who got a good Deal? I Did! Thanx to B& N & HSN!

Re: Ok, the HSN version was not overpriced because...

My main reason for posting this has been said eloquently by various persons.

Whether or not the HSN deal was a deal mathematically is not really open to discussion.  The books listed are not free versions and have extra content which justifies the price attached to them.  As has been pointed out this makes the value of the books if purchased separately somewhere around $300-for the versions listed.  The intrinsic value then exists.  Those who keep saying it ain't so need remedial math.  The list of books isn't for everyone, but there sometimes is an added value in the flexpay and all.

The basic point is that it's time to stop trying to make HSN buyers feel less than welcome and less than smart for their purchases.  If it is not a deal to you, that's your business and unimportant in my mind.  What is important is that people stop acting like these new NOOKcolor users got taken to the cleaners which is insulting, even if not meant to be.  I daresay most people that bought a NOOKcolor would be insulted if someone kept saying they could get a better deal by buying an ereader for $100 at the drugstore because the NOOKcolor was overpriced and a bad deal.  Oh wait, that happened and people were offended.

And if I have misjudged any comments made by anyone, I apologize.  But, ignoring facts and repeating untruths does not change these facts.

Thanks for the welcome.:smileyhappy:

I am a card carrying droidette and have already been assimilated into the Andorid Nation!

I have an andorid phone and as soon as the dust settles in the android tablet market, i will make the switch. I agree that an ipad is not a nook. I love what they each offer. CHOICE.I started reading the boards before the hsn offer and saw the discussion and now it just seems to have turned from "when are we getting an update and why arent we all getting it first?" to "you are stupid to buy the NC from HSN."

The value of an item will always be different per user. I cannot speak exactly for deemure since it seems the first post seems to have been done with alot of emotion. What I think we should learn from what the OP is trying to say is NOT JUDGE hsn buyers by YOUR  personnel value of an item.  There is no right or wrong here. Its over priced, its under priced , its just right. The three bears of HSN shopping. Everyone just drop it already!

The 100 books on the HSN bonus sd card looked similar to the "100 Classic Books" that cost under $20 on my Nintendo DS.

@deemure What a great way to start post by insulting people. I am not ignorant and the price is a rip off.  YOu post co,es off arragant and insulting.

First off what if you are not interested in the included books. I am sure most people are not going to read most of them. That point a side, the books are not formatted (as you say) special by HSN they are the same ones you can get elsde where any for free.  Plus if you pick and choose your nook is not cluttered up wiht dozens of ones that you will never read.

There are so many sites for free books too, including B&N. Which BTW FREE Book Friday give you real books for free also. The point still stands the deal is bad unless you want all those books,  but not as bad as your attatude.

Re: Ok, the HSN version was not overpriced because...

Guyon, if your just trying to stir it up a bit then that was a good troll post. If you ment it then youmite want to reread some of the posts explaining what books were included....this dicussion did not start out asking if people THINK its a good deal. It explained how much $$ you would pay to get what HSN buyers got for their $$. I'm with the "the value of those books plus mSD card does not apeal to me" crowd. The flex pay mite push me to do that deal if I really wanted a NC now and didn't want to wait while I saved up. I could use the value of the books to justify it to myself. I would hope HSN buyers will ignore the posts making out like they are bone heads for paying the higher price. Some will, some will probably feel bad. I think if they are readers they will soon realize, after reading those nicly formatted classics, that they got a decent deal. Some may not read em at all and still be happy. Most of all I hope they realize that this is the internet and only a fool let's radom opinions from random strangers get under the skin. As always, JMHO

Re: Ok, the HSN version was not overpriced because...

Well said phoneboy. I have to say I have been keeping up with this blog and as an HSN buyer of the NC I did get a little offended at people saying I was ignorant or dumb for making the purchase. I mean what business is it of anyones if I want to spend more on the NC. Regardless of what books were included or whats free or this or that...I wanted a NC, plain and simple. I bought it. Do we walk around insulting people for spending outrageous amounts of money on a house? No, its what they want and its what they can afford. Plain and simple. Those who are insulting are obviously unhappy with something but dont be rude and take it out on those who are ENJOYING their purchase :smileyhappy: I expect to receive mine today and cant wait to join the NC community!!

It only matters in that to insinuate some NOOKcolor owners were stupid for buying from HSN is in itself stupid.  That some individuals persist in displaying their lack of knowledge on the subject of the books included is ridiculous and wilfully ignorant.  It is truly sad that it is not easy to put this to rest by simply stating the facts.  Apparently facts have no meaning to some individuals.  Along with it comes some sort of emotional attachment to being wrong.

It all does boil down to some simple things; if you wanted to use flexpay, it is probably a good deal for that alone.  A lot of people don't like to put large purchases on a credit card if they can't pay it off at the end of the month.  But, $75 or whatever it was, is easy enough for some people and worth it.  If the books appeal to you, it is a good buy.  And no matter what some people say the books may contain the same text, but include professional formatting, which I won't define since it should be obvious what that means, and additional content.  They are digital versions of books B&N has offered in DTB format (the price of which is now over $1000, but may include more books than is on this list.  For some people this is value.  There are others that could care less about the books included.  Again, to each his own.

This actually could have been a very short discussion, if some people would use what are commonly known as web browsers, search engines, and the higher functioning areas of their brains.  Unfortunately, it has become a long discussion where some choose to remain in the dark.

Re: Ok, the HSN version was not overpriced because...

I bought my Nook Color for $250.00 at a Barnes and Noble. Two days later they started selling them on eBay for $200.00 (a sale that is now done).

You know what? I don't care. I'm enjoying my Nook Color and not obsessed with how little I might have paid had I done it a different way.

Just enjoy your reader. It's a great device whether you got it for $199, $249 or $299.

@deemure:

You are so very supportive of everyone here, in my opinion, so it hits me "right here" when others are just outright insulting.

I think at this point some of the posters are just trying to bait you into writing more!  They are baiters and I think we should choose to ignore them at this point and not waste anymore positive energy on them,  They are masters at baiting, obviously, so don't give them the "satisfaction" of responding to their posts any longer.

I think deemure is handling this post pretty well.  My wife would wait until we got back to the car and beat me with her shoe when we left a social situation and I was randomly spouting my big mouth off regardless of who was in the room.
