Since 1997, you’ve been coming to BarnesandNoble.com to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, BN.com is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Opinions on Update?

I feel that the app icons are ridiculously big. Wish they were smaller like other tablets icons. I was also hoping that it would have been for of a Android looking update. Wish there was a new lock screen.I was also hoping for a different Interface. The one thing I'm really LOVING is the Pulse app. It's amazing. I'm hoping if they update the nook again it's with nicer settings.

What are your thoughts on the update?

I also thing that the icons are too big, it also seems that the icons are gray for a long time before they look right. :smileytongue:

I like Pulse App too. Once I learned how to customize it, it is pretty amazing. Definitely, works like a newspaper subscription, but free! As for the general interface, I am fine with what they have now. Guess too much redesign could confuse some of the less sophisticated owners. They have too many bugs to keep them busy for the next six months without dealing with new interface.

:smileyhappy: Yes the Pulse app is great!

I agree with you on being fine with what they have right now - and more apps will certainly be added in the future.

Re: Opinions on Update?

I just finished the update, about 30 minutes ago. I can't see any apps, for the life of me. When I select the Apps icon, all I see new is Email and NOOK Friends. If I select "Discover more NOOK Apps", it goes into a search for ever and ever, not finding anything.

By the way, the update cam with a free sample book: The Good Housekeeping Cookbook. ???

How do you update the feed?  Pulse seems to be pretty neat, but there is so much on the homepage.

Re: Opinions on Update?

Love the update.  The only thing I'm missing is the ability to synchronize between all my NOOK devices.

Maybe the icons will shrink in size when enough are accumulated, like the book icons do on the home screens?

I think the update has expanded the Nook Color's abilities, but my #1 wish would be something that would help the battery hold the charge longer. It seems like the more the Nook Color can do, the faster the battery will need to be recharged. Could some kind of battery booster to plug into the USB port be made, similar to what is available for mobile phones?

Just happened to be reading that on pulse home page - -

opt 1  tap the refresh icon to the right of the Pulse logo on the home screen to refresh your news

opt 2  If you want to quickly update an individual source, select the refresh icon to the right of the           feed you want to refresh

Just tried it and it works :smileyhappy:    Love Pulse!    LOVE my NC

I went back to 1.1 because I kept hearing about the video issues. I will run my own tests with Handbrake on 1.1 and 1.2 to see if there's anything to it. If there is, I will stay with 1.1 until it's fixed.

I couldn't care less about the apps or Flash, although I would like a more advanced pdf viewer. But, as of now, I have not heard of a decent replacement to what came with the Nook in the first place. I wish Adobe would make a pdf reader for this.

Re: Opinions on Update?

In response to "the application icons are too big":  You can do a pinch to shrink on the book icons as well as the app icons.  Likewise, you can make them larger as well (I make the icon for the current book I'm reading, larger than the others).

That's all well and good. Some people don't want to root, so I guess I'm SOL!

I understand; of all the apps out there in the Android marketplace, this is one that B&N shouldn't have any issue including in their store.
