So I just found this PM in my inbox...

Hi HamNCheese,

I'm sorry to inform you that your post in the "(Minimal) Info from Employee" thread on the NOOKcolor General Discussion board has been removed because it violates our policy against language that is abusive, intimidating, discriminatory, or otherwise objectionable.

Please remember the Book Clubs User Guidelines while participating in our community. We encourage you to write a revised version. Thanks for helping us keep Barnes & Noble Book Clubs a positive, friendly, and productive environment.

So let me get this striaght....

Dozens of users are in here, on a daily basis, complaining about this and that.  Many have questions, some eventually return their Nook in utter frustration.

And all they do is patrol the boards and remove posts when someone drops an F-bomb?

Unbeleivable.

I encourage evryone on this form to sign the petition and get someone in here who can actually help fix things:

This is supposed to be a PG-13 board as there are kiddies around. Not that they don't swear like sailers most of them but there it is.:smileywink:

Re: PM from Nook_Engineer????

HNC, they didn't ban you from the forums on the grounds that you're here to root their device and spread the news.

If they want us not to cuss, I got no problem with that.

I thought the fellow on xda-devs from the autonoot project this morning had some really interesting info on the # of downloads of the tool he's seen versus the # of nooks in the world.  I'm sure BN knows those numbers also.

So, seriously, chill.  You're posting on BN hardware about BN hardware;  the First Amendment isn't applicable here.  My local paper pre-censors language on their website, which is actually helpful because you know ahead of time if you're over the line.

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." Fourth Amendment to the US Constitution.

Agreed.

Go to your cell carriers forums and try to discuss rooting your phone.  The Mods will alter your posts just for mentioning the word "root."

I agree, enough words to use without cussing.

When you call for moderators you can not decide WHAT they are going to moderate.

I agree....you can make your point without cussing.  I am just surprised to see any Admin. action in this forum.  For months we asked for some help from an Admin. or Moderator but to no avail.  At least they have a presence here now and are trying to help.

This is a Grandmother speaking.

I enjoy these Nook Color Discussions and agree with the NC Engineer.  There's enough coarseness out there without adding to it.  I didn't read the post, but would have liked to read the comments from others.  I'm afraid that they threw out the baby with the bathwater.

Actually....lol....I've done this.  I have a Nexus One on T-Mobile.   It's rooted (not that it needs it) - and I told them when I activated the account.  They had never even seen a Nexus One in person before....

On the other hand, when I activated a second account they asked me "what handset I'm using"   I told them "it's none of your business, I need  a SIM card and a data plan."  And that was the end of it.

Conclusion:  B&N cares more about censoring dirty words than they do about owning up to resetting thousands of Nook Colors by mistake.  (oopsie....)

Sorry, but their priorities are out of whack on this one.

Re: PM from Nook_Engineer????

Agreed, they should explain a little more of what happened, and what they're doing to a) prevent a repeat, b) provide users with meaningful backup of device-only content (contacts, bookmarks, shelves) and  c) make sure that if, in two years, they give up on the Nook platform as a business decision, we're not left in rebootville.

Unfortunately, they probably already have software that looks for offending strings of text and flags staff about it.  It may be completely automated (as was the mass nook wipe) and simply sign itself off as whatever staff person has this in their job description this week.

Still and all -- weren't you just basically demanding staff participation last night?

This is a great example of being careful what you wish for, since participation doesn't mean anyone but BN sets what is and isn't a priority for their staff.

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized." They aren't owning up to it?  Really?  Since when?  Wow.  When did they deny it?

Yes, it would be nice to get some kind of explanation, but not giving the reasons for the issues yesterday is not nearly the same thing as, "not owning up."
