Lots of speculation about what will or won't happen on November 7. But let's not give any of us any wiggle room, shall we? Some have hinted they don't necessarily think anything will happen, but they've left themself enough wiggle room that if there is a new NC2 on the 7th, they can say "I never said there wouldn't be."
So let's all of us commit: What do YOU think November 7 will bring to Barnes & Noble. My prediction: The current Nook Color is lowered in price to $199 or lower, and a new high-end Nook Color is introduced somewhere between $240 to $300.

Perhaps B&N will launch a new line of home products (luxury objects that may displayed at one's personal library), or perhaps a new line of Nook-related offers, like cases, etc. at moderate prices. My last guess is that they retire the N1E, update the current software on the N2E, and reduce the price of the, somewhat now obsolete Nook Color, to introduce a new one.
Who knows......

Has B&N made any official comment about an event or announcement on Nov. 7? Or is all this just based on the speculation from the rumor mills at PC Mag., Slashgear and the like?
I'm just saying, they've been way off the mark before, so Nov. 7 might just be, well, another Monday.

Ok I'm the optimist... I think Barnes & Noble is going to leapfrog Kindle once again... Same as they did last year, and 1 up the kindle fire with a new nook color device that is same price but way better... In the spring, they will then leapfrog the other e-ink kindles yet again... I always root for the underdog! ;-)

Here's why I think Barnes & Noble 1 ups the kindle fire: honestly, I don't quite understand why the kindle fire is much better than the year old nook color, let alone a theoretical next gen nook color... I think Amazon will do well, but it is more as a content game... They will sell content to people who already have Prime, who already use their streaming services and who already have kindles... But hardware wise, it's just not that impressive, a dual core processor... Guaranteed the next nook will have a dual core, so what else does the kindle have on the nook if you are not interested in cloud drive? It's missing any Sd card reader or memory expansion...

Since BN has released new products, the nook then the nook color, for the last 2 holiday seasons, logic tells me that they will again release a new product for this holiday. They would miss a great opportunity if they missed the holiday season. I hope it is a Nook color on steroids. Faster processor, more memory, and a more open android tablet.
My wife said to me the other day, for Christmas we could get you a new tablet and I could take your nook color. Quiet frankly, I've been looking around and I am not seeing anything under $300 that I like except the Dell Streak. I am hoping that BN releases a new nc2. I will buy it and be happy ![]()

Jeff Bezos throws a fit, claims Kindle is superior then denies he ever meant to compete with the Nook, that his target was the iPad all along.

Too funnyBut I'm sure Jeff's response would be the 10" rumor has it they've held back waiting to see the response of the 7". Rumor has it now that the 7" has been received so well and the requests are in for a 10". They've decided to release the 10" before christmas. Not sure how true the rumor is, but the rumor for the 10" known has "hollywood" was rumored right along with the 7" known as "coyote" aka Fire near the beginning of this year.
So we will just have to wait and see.

So this just comes from my own wishes for a new nook. A nook color that suports nook study as well as a larger touch screen. Maybe 9inch. I'm thinking these are all reasonable expectations with the rumored 350$ price tag. If its gonna cost that much its going to need to compete with the ipad.

They would be insane to release a READER for $350.00
All the major 10" Honeycomb tablets are approaching that price now. Given a choice between a "reader" and a full Android tablet for the same $350, the money is going to the full tablet.
The thing that made the NC attractive is the ability to root it and make it full Android. At a much lower price point than any other capacitive IPS tablet that was available at the time.
That is no longer a consideration. All the tablets in the $350 price range are also readers. And capacitive.
They need to do something different or it will fail.

So now we know there is an announcement of "something big". It may not be hardware though. Frankly I would be more impressed if they could come up with something big in the content realm.

I suspect some people would not be impressed if they announce the current NC will sell for $99, a new dual-core will sell for $150, and will feature content from every major cable network not locked up by Amazon....with all free content for the first year.

Pipe dreams aside:
I see four major possibilies, listed in what I feel are the most probable order.
1) Refresh of the NOOKcolor, using the same basic OS and physical shell, but with better innards (faster processor, more RAM, etc.). It would save on development costs, which would allow BN to drop the price to match the $199 Fire, but still allow them to meet Amazon toe-to-toe specwise. I really like that the NOOKcolor doesn't simply look like a black box as every other Android tablet does, and if they keep that character it will help with brand recognition. Old NOOKcolor drops to $175.
2) Refresh of the NOOK Simple Touch, sorta. Same exact device, but with some sort of subsidy that allows it to be sold at $99 or less. Could be ads, but I doubt it. More likely would be some kind of book club subscription service, where you have to spend a certain amount on BN ebooks each month for a year with the purchace of the device. So you pay $49 for the device, but are charged an extra $20 each month unless you buy $20 worth of ebooks from BN that month. The regular $139 version will continue to sell at that price point.
3) 10 inch tablet, with full NOOKstudy integration. This would include stylus note capabilities, the ability to buy/rent NOOKstudy textbooks, and clound-based note/highlight storage between the new tablet and the desktop applications.
4) Color eInk/Mirasol reader. While both companies are insisting they have a major partner in the US preping to launch a color ereader, I just don't see it being financially viable at this point. Once the price of the screens drops next year I think we'll see a real Color NOOK.

You guys just don't get it. Quit thinking about dual-procs and other such techno jibberish. That's not what makes money for BN.
What you'll likely see is the same NC device but with changes to cater more towards the female demographic: Pink exterior, scented cases, Name-your-Nook Registry, dynamic wall paper from Cosmo/People covers, etc.
No man worth his back hair would be caught dead in something called a "Nook Boutique". This new marketing push is clearly aimed squarely at women and any announcment on Nov. 7 will have that in mind.
