If I mess up, is this easy to reverse?  Is it booting from SD card?

Last question, if I root this way, where are my books?  How do I still access my library to read my books?  Do I need to download an app for BN Nook Reader?

You may be a little mixed up - the steps above will root your Nook and replace the stock OS. What you want to do is create a bootable SD card and leave the root OS intact.

Leave the stock nook alone - its great. Shut down, push in SD card, and you have a nice android tablet. Shut down, remove the SD card, and you are back to having an untouched Nook Color.

I have only one recommendation. When she tells you to insert the SD card into your nook, skip that. Just proceed to the next step which is installing the Android Market onto the SD card. When I did this tutorial I followed her steps to the letter and later realized I could have done everything in one whole step. Its better to do it all in one step because you don't have to go through the trouble of restarting your nook (which can be difficult).

Its a fine video and a perfectly reasonable approach to rooting your Nook Color.  In fact, its truly rooting your device.  If you do this, however, you are changing internal parts of your software.  Its easy to reverse, but you should know it changes the internal software.  As for the interface (for this approach) you can switch between a more tablet-look and the stock look.  I actually use an APPMANAGER app with my manual nooter that lets me keep the stock interface from BN while adding any and all apps I install from the full Android Market.  Its quite nice and most things work well.

However, if your nervous about fiddling with internal software (understandable...but there's not much need to worry to be honest), you can install an operating system to a microSD card.  You won't change any of the internal software and keep your stock nook in tact.  Personally, I like this option!  You get a full tablet and then can reboot into the stock reader (which I really like) .  Plus you don't need to worry about warranties and such.

Why not use the current, up-to-date Manualnooter 4.5.25?

Manualnooter 4.5.25 has a known problem in which some users get stuck in a boot loop if you shut off your nook. If anything use 4.5.18.

Okay, so I continue to get an error 8 message when I try and write the image to the SD card.  How do I get around this?

Reformat your card in your nook, then try again...make sure it's seated tight. Here's an old link about that error:

I'm having issue with making .img file.

Followed these instructions, along with her video:  

• An image-writing program like WinImage. I used WinImage85 in my tutorial.
• The CM7 installer image here. Note that the ".gz" extension is a compressed format - you'll need to unzip it with a program like WinRar.
• The CM7 build here. (Download the update-cm-ETCETERA-.zip file. Do not unzip - just leave as is.) (found updated on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000957
• The CM7 google apps installer here. (Scroll to the bottom until you see this download link.)

WHen you download the CM7 installer image, where are you putting the file before you unzip it?

I cannot get it to save the C root.  Tried to mess around with permissions, to no avail.  Got this  suggestion from CrashTechDummies video:     http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P4nenR-mNo0

I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit

micro SD card is Sandisk 8-class 4

When it does write the image, there's no .img at the end.  If this doesn't give enough info, I'll do screencaps or more detailed explanation.

Finally got it to work!  Apparently the newer version of WinDiskImager would not work.  I read about several people having issue with it.  I went back to an earlier version and it couldn't have been easier!

Thank you to all!  I'm off to play with my new Nook!
