Since 1997, you’ve been coming to to discuss everything from Stephen King to writing to Harry Potter. You’ve made our site more than a place to discover your next book: you’ve made it a community. But like all things internet, is growing and changing. We've said goodbye to our community message boards—but that doesn’t mean we won’t still be a place for adventurous readers to connect and discover.

Now, you can explore the most exciting new titles (and remember the classics) at the Barnes & Noble Book Blog. Check out conversations with authors like Jeff VanderMeer and Gary Shteyngart at the B&N Review, and browse write-ups of the best in literary fiction. Come to our Facebook page to weigh in on what it means to be a book nerd. Browse digital deals on the NOOK blog, tweet about books with us,or self-publish your latest novella with NOOK Press. And for those of you looking for support for your NOOK, the NOOK Support Forums will still be here.

We will continue to provide you with books that make you turn pages well past midnight, discover new worlds, and reunite with old friends. And we hope that you’ll continue to tell us how you’re doing, what you’re reading, and what books mean to you.

Total memory

[ Edited ]

When I check in setting I'm only showing total memory of 1 gig with 854mb available

I thought total was up to 8 Gig

I know there is about 3 Gigs being used for APS etc which leaves about 5 gigs available

what's going on?????

Re: Total memory

There is a very long thread on this titled "major (and potentially ugly) change to the nook color". I don't currently have the ability to post a link, but if you want more info, it should not be more than a few days back. I will sum up the best i can. BN repartitioned the hard drive to reserve more space for content from their market. Still 8 gb total, but they are now reserving 7. I think it is because a bunch of people were having trouble downloading more than 15 apps or so. That is just my opinion. There is a method to repartition that i am not familiar with, but it is explained in the thread mentioned above. There have also been posts claiming that you can have the partition adjusted for you in many of the stores. I think the idea is that folks will just expand memory with sd cards anyway. For what its worth.

Re: Total memory

Sloppy IT work on B&N's part.  This change should have been coordinated with a change to what partition of memory the memory gauge looked at.  As it stands, you have no idea how much memory is left for the bulk of what you'll be putting on the NC.
