[ Edited ]
I know I'm not adding anyting new to the suggestions on this thread, but here's my list:
  •  Fix Shelving-- 1) Shelved titles on SD card should not disappear when NC is turned off or when new titles are added  2) Allow "shelves set-up" and "shelves syncing" with other devices/apps
  • Fix Highlighting and Notes-- 1) fix syncing between devices  2) fix "sluggishness" that occurs when many highlights and notes are stored for one book  3) allow highlighting from page to page  4) allow export and printing of highlights and notes
  • Fix Dictionary-- 1) enable "keyboard" lookup  2) fix hyphenated word lookup problem
  • Enable Landscape Mode for all reading
  • Enable Bluethtooth
  • Enable Basic File Manager Functions in My Files
  • Fix My WishList Sync Problem

Re: What you would want in the Nook Color 1.3 update.

I would like to have more control over the shopping home screen.  I do not like the top panels to scroll by themselves. I know perfectly well how to scroll to another panel and don't like to have it scroll when I'm half way though looking at a panel.

Also I would like to choose which panels I see. I have never and will never buy a book from the steamy romance panel, and I'm not a big fan of biographies.  I would like to see a panel of mysteries (Jule's choices) and of general fiction (Sessalee's choices).

There seems to be a lot of repetition in the book suggestions based on a previously purchased book. It seems to cycle through a small set of books over and over.

Total file control without a computer link. Unless the problem of under powered laptops not "seeing" the nook when plugged in. A way to print via WiFi printers. A way for the nook to run faster by overclocking or not run programs in the background that are not needed. A email program that WILL NOT keep reloading emails that have been deleted. Archiving apps that were in the nook original program like crossword or nook friends, ect.

I wouild like to see Barnes and Noble make the device a true android tablet.  Most people are rooting them anyway.  If they keep it at the 250 price they would probably have one of the best selling tablets out there

[ Edited ]

I just got my NC less than 2 weeks ago.

  1. 3G would be sweet
  2. Open up Market/App Store...currently there is NOTHING USEFUL out there for a stock NC user other than Quick Office Pro.  I'm a student on the go and would love to use my NC for everything (NetFlix, a journal, textbooks) instead of my tiny phone
  3. More video formats...again, my phone screen is tiny...and converting files can be quite time-consuming...
  4. File management without using a computer
  5. Landscape mode for whatever you want
  6. Back button for web other than the one at the very top left of web page that you have to scroll ALL THE WAY UP in order to press...
  7. And I agree with another poster that Words with Friends would be quite fun too lol

I guess I would like the NC to be just like my Droid phone except for the calling/texting features lol

PS-Make some travel cases that are like the M-Edge Lattitude/TS models (with zippers) and add carrying handles pretty please :smileyhappy:

Re: What you would want in the Nook Color 1.3 update.

Have you tried:

  • Going to the page in the book you want to read at night
  • Lightly touching the bottom of the page (above the arrow)
  • A row of options appears...touch the "Aa Text" box...I know, you think it'd be the "Brightness" box
  • You have a choice of Normal, Night and Gray...choose Night

The screen will now be black and the words white-emits very little light (you can still control the brightness of the words with the Brightness box mentioned above.) I do this for night reading and it's awesome, I can't imagine it would bother anyone. Just be ready for the nook to clunk you in the face as you fall asleep:smileyhappy: Thanks for serving our country-be safe.

:smileyvery-happy:  :smileyvery-happy:  Nope.  I agree it may seem that way at times.  However, the reality is that while many folks DO root their NC's, the vast majority do not.

I suspect you're right.

Seriously, people. Is this thing coming, or what? Is there a bugfix update in the works? I don't even care about a timetable, I just want to know if it's coming at all.

Landscape view for ebooks.

Bookmarking for pdf's

Sort by series.

More apps so I'm not tempted to boot with android. Would love to be able to stream video from my pc with the vlc app or something similar.

Re: What you would want in the Nook Color 1.3 update.

It would be great if I could automatically get my subscriptions to download. New magazines subscriptions do not download even if I have wifi on and sync my library. I have had this problem before, and the solution BN gave me was to de-register the device and re-register it. That solved the problem the first time, but I refuse to do it again. I'll probably just unsubscribe from everything, since I have no problem with downloading books. But if I wanted a reader just for books, I wouldn't have invested money in the Nook Color.

Re: What you would want in the Nook Color 1.3 update.

1) Print capability

2) Web filter so parents can restrict children's web access

3) Bluetooth connectivity

Thanks,

Re: What you would want in the Nook Color 1.3 update.

I'd really like sideloaded content to stay on the home page once I put it there.  Very annoying that only B&N purchases seem to stick...

BLUETOOTH capability. I received this NC as a present and it is a good reader but I need a real keyboard and without bluetooth this thing is  just a one trick pony. I refuse to recommend it to anyone that wants to do more than read.

That's good, because BN does not recomment it to anyone that wants to do more than read either.

I was under the impression that lots of folks have connected their NCs to BT keyboards running CM7.

Re: What you would want in the Nook Color 1.3 update.

Even though rooting the NOOKcolor is cool, I'm glad B&N hasn't opted to jump into being a full blown Android tablet. Now, with Apple being so litigious over infringement on their tablet design. The NC already has established a good foothold as an outstanding color ereader in most of the relevant trade magazines. Moving from the ereader niche to the turbulent Android tablet market would dissolve NOOKcolor's value in my opinion. There are several utilities and apps that should be added, like file management routines & better Flashplayer compatability. But, I like the slower integration of "off the shelf" apps. It helps keep my NC from intrusions. Remember, Apple choose to travel the road less traveled. Look who's become a benchmark, as well as, market leader. Improve my NOOKcolor and not a cheap Android clone.

Re: What you would want in the Nook Color 1.3 update.

I would really really like to see an attachment function on the email!  I purchased the quick office pro so that I could email my professors docs from email if necessary.  USELESS without an attachment function!! Granted I did not purchase the NC to have a full tablet but do not advertise FULL functioning email if it is not.

Have you tried to attach via the mail service website using the browser? More work for sure, but it may work as a workaround for now...

Re: What you would want in the Nook Color 1.3 update.

Well if you are not handy using on screen keyboards, an external keyboard is essential. The only way I see that given the present configuration is via bluetooth.

I understand that BN wants to maintain this as a reader first (and I thoroughly enjoy reading on my device), but many of the approved apps require keyboard entry.
