Re: ez PDF reader

Kidding aside....is there anyone out there that knows exactly what this app can do on the NC?

I am a grad student and desperately need an EASY way to take notes on pdfs of articles that are provided for me. I can read them just fine, but can't take notes because of copyrighted material...unless I begin a 4 step process which I just don't want to do. Does this app solve that?

I was dying when I came to work today and learned that the update is available and I am 6hours from being able to get my hands on it!!

Re: ez PDF reader

I am wondering if this is compatible with the Washington Post Express pdf file?  The problem I have had with my Nook Color and documents to go, the PDF reader, quickoffice that came with it along with Acrobat when I had it rooted: it had a problem where words were blocked out by colored lines that the words were using usually where there was an image nearby.  I have checked this on my Xoom and it is still happening.  The website is http://www.expressnightout.com/printedition.  if someone can try it out with  this and repligo and others before I shell out money for an app that doesn't do this, I would be grateful.

I am not sure, but you may want to look into QuickOffice Pro.

B&N doesn't have too much info on it, but here's a page describing the features. Note: I don't know if all of the features will be the same for the Nook version, whenever it is released.

Re: ez PDF reader

Thanks. I will check that out too, it seemed to leave out mention of actually taking notes with pdfs though. The ez pdf reader seemed to indicate that you could at least put sticky notes on the pdfs, which I think would be very beneficial to me....just wondering if anyone knew for sure what it did :smileyhappy:

Re: ez PDF reader

I purchased the app. 1) it installs on the SD card and only finds the pdf stored on the SD card. I haven't figured out if I can browse to any pdf's in memory. 2) Since I have an SD card I don't know if the app will install in Nook memory or not.

Unlike the Office pdf app on the Nook before update you have many more options. 1)  I am able to display and pinch zoom in a hugemous pdf honda atv manual I bought for my husband, so we now have a way to look at this manual with a mobile device besides the laptop. This pdf was image based.  2) I was able to display a page of sheet music. 3) For pdf novels I could access settings at the screen bottom that let me use reflow for reading.. You can double tap to enlarge the type and/or use pinch zoom. 4) If you touch and hold it brings up a stick note icon. I haven't tried to create a note. 5) Tapping the Home N key while in the program brings you back to menu when you are in your pdf doc. Tapping the Home N key while in the menu/files screen takes you out of the app. 6) Seems to respond to landscape by rotating your nook.

The app does much more than the stock app for pdfs.

Re: ez PDF reader

I installed exPDFreader but have not been able to get it to open any PDFs other than the sample that came with it. I downloaded a very simple web pdf - and it says it can't open it. I also had a very simple PDF that was converted from a Word doc already on my nook. It can't even find it. :smileysad:

It also requires that you have an sd card to run - which is a bit weird. Fortunately I had one sitting around I could use. Guess you have to store all your pdfs on it for it to work too. So far - no success. Will let you know if I get it up and going.

Do you know if it saves your place in a document?

I didn't have an sd card installed so it installed into the NC's flash but I can't use it as it won't start up unless I have an sd card inserted. so it looks like it's only for pdf's on an sd card which as my NC is in a case that makes getting to the sd card slot easily a bit of a chore it's not going to be that convieniant to use :smileysad:

Re: ez PDF reader

That is helpful information.....especially since I will probably now have to get an SD card! I would have been banging my head over that one!

It will only read pdfs on the sd card? Yikes! That's a non-starter for me. Thanks for the info, all.

Re: ez PDF reader

Yes it appears to remember your place in the book.  Pretty much the biggest drawback is that it only seems to work on SD card items.  Not such a problem for me since I have an 8gb card I pretty much leave in all the time, but if I had other cards that contained movies its a pain to switch out those tiny little sd cards.

Re: ez PDF reader

What kind of SD should I get and how big should it be? It will most definitely just stay in the NC since I have to reason to take it out....that for me is not a deal breaker.

Re: ez PDF reader

I purchased a Micro SDHC 8 gb card at Walmart for $10. Pretty much any kind of MicroSD or Micro SDHC works. I haven't had any issues except for holding on the little thing as I manuever the little darling into its tiney little slot under the keyholder loop.! :smileyhappy:

Re: ez PDF reader

Wow, thanks for posting this! I came home at lunch because I had to download the update but now I know not to bother with the ez PDF app.  I guess I'll have to wait for Quick Office Pro to see what it provides, I can't believe you have to use the PDF on an SD card in order to open it in ez PDF, what a rip off!  If I wanted to have to use an SD card, I would have rooted long ago.  I waited because I wanted to see what we ended up getting with the update.  So far I have no problems with the update itself, my main problem is that one big thing I needed it to do, it STILL WON'T DO! So frustrated! Maybe I'm wrong, but I just refuse to have to sideload my PDFs to a separate card in order to be able to use them in an app that is stored directly in the devices memory!

Re: ez PDF reader

I downloaded it because it says that it will read password protected pdf files... apparently that doesn't include my university text books (locked pdf's).

Unless I'm missing something?  *big sigh*
