ezPdf is there a user guide

I am wondering if there is a user guide some where, or if any one knows how to use this.  I downloaded this after noticing an update,  that would allow use without sd card. I have one but prefer to use it for my movies. Is it me (not knowing how to use it), or is it still glitchly. If this question has been answered, please forgive and point me in the right direction.  Thanks

Mimi, unfortunately the vendor does not appear to offer a User Manual of any sort.  Nor is there any internal Help info.  And this is a progran that could use it.

I did a Google search, and the only guide-type information I could find was a couple pages in Korean.  Translating them to English wasn't very useful.

Oh, and as for it being glitchy, I haven't experienced that with the latest 1.2.0.0 version, but I haven't had much time to spend with it yet.  If you point out the types of problems you've been seeing, then perhaps others could determine if they're exclusive to your Nook, or widespread.

Kitten, if you have wifi enabled and a connection to the internet, then when you tap on the cover on your bookshelf with a 'download' on it, it should start to download to your Nook.

Is that not happening for you?

Agreed. Great program, poor support.

Re: ezPdf is there a user guide

Thanks Mark,  it seem to glitch when I tried to add a book. ( I have quite a few books from Gutenberg)  First I tried tapping "all PDF" only the free pdf builder pops up, I then tried "my docs" which causes a search bar, sd card folder and thank you folder. I typed the name of the author and it seems to pause and a message "0 occurrence found"  I know I have the book. What am I doing wrong?

Again thank you for responding and your help  :smileyhappy:

Is the book on the SD card? The problem of the app installing on the card was solved. But I believe the PDF still have to be on the card. At least that's the way it works for me.

Yep I can understand the developer offering it for free not wanting the drudgery of writing a manual. But could offer users free apps and location for users to donate their time writing one on a site somewhere for the app.

But charging for the App and then not providing any instructions or manual on use is unacceptable.

Would have been nice if Android Market,Amazon and B&N got together originally and would refuse to post an app without docs & manual. Forcing the developers to start thinking along the lines of usability for the users.

Peter, that was true before.  However, as of v1.2.0.0, PDFs can be on the internal memory (anywhere in Media or below), and ezPDF will find it just fine.

Check your version, and if it is v1.2 already, then perhaps there's still some problem that Unidocs needs to correct.

Re: ezPdf is there a user guide

Mark: I checked the version , it is the 1.2,  and that is the reason I purchased it, the update was "supposed" to eliminate the need for the sd card.  Any suggestions that I might try?

Mimi, thanks for providing info on your glitches, and my apologies for not getting back to you sooner.  Though I've heard of Project Gutenberg of course, I haven't really spent any time downloading content from there (yet).  So I wanted to go there and try to replicate the problem you were having.  And when I tried to do so yesterday, things were really slow.

Now that I've gotten in and looked around a bit, I'm seeing "All our ebooks can be freely downloaded: Choose between ePub, Kindle, HTML and simple text formats."  I even downloaded a couple to check out.

However, it appears that PDF format is not one that they support (though there are certainly ways you could convert from those into PDF).  But PDF format is the ONLY format that ezPDF supports.  Since this is not true for every PDF-capable reader (some do support ePubs as well), I can see how you might have gotten confused.  Or perhaps I'm confused!  :smileyhappy:

Anyway, let me know if this clears up the mystery of your glitches or not.  PDF happens to be my most-used format (I have a large library of tech docs), so if there's anything I can do to help you out (or anyone else), or the developers themselves, I will see what I can do.

[When Unidocs first claimed they had fixed the SDcard limitation, I let Don know right away that while their new code was working on rooted NC's, it was actually broken even worse than the old versions.  I.e., an All PDF scan wouldn't even find SDcard content anymore.

For the NC, they had to change the path strings to prefix them with /mnt, because /media and /sdcard were getting mapped differently than generic Android devices.  The code they were shipping for the NC was identical to what they distribute via the A-Market and Amazon appstore, and that just won't always work on the NC.]

I see our posts crossed almost simultaneously.  :smileywink:  Since ezPDF can only open and read PDFs, when it scans, the only files it will show you are PDFs.  Anything else gets ignored.

If this isn't the problem you're having, we can continue to troubleshoot.

Orb, while I agree with you that having a manual would be most helpful, especially in this case, I think there are some apps that don't really need them.  Making that an ironclad requirement may be counterproductive.

One strong motivator to respond to user needs is already present in all marketplaces... if you don't like what they're doing, don't buy their product, or recommend it to others.  Pricing can also be a consideration.  The functionality that ezPDF provides seems pretty phenominal to me for 99c.  I suspect that Repligo from Cerience does have a manual, or documentation of some kind (I haven't bought it yet, but I plan to).  But perhaps that is a factor explaining why it costs 5x as much?

Lastly, Unidocs is based in SKorea, and English is not their first language.  That wouldn't stop them from encouraging/rewarding someone else to come up with some docs for them, but at 99c a pop, I'm not sure how much they could spare for that or how they would make such a large task worth someone's time?  Maybe someone could create a manual for it, wrap it in an app, and charge 99c for that?  I'm sure there would be complaints though.

Anyway, I definitely agree with you and others that not having useful information readily available to explain the program's operation will have a negative impact on how useful it will be.  In it's current state, there will be cool things it could do that you'll never use, simply because you can't unravel the mystery.  :smileysad:  And that's a shame.

That's good to hear, and I'm glad we could clear up the glitches.  I know how frustrating it can be when something isn't working the way you think it should.  And it really doesn't matter if it's program error or operator error.

Now that you know, you can enjoy using it for what it can provide, and use other tools for reading ePub and other document types.

Re: ezPdf is there a user guide

A few points:

1. I began using EzPdfReader before I even owned any microSD cards (my camera takes a larger form factor of SD card), so I know it can be used to view PDFs without any card.  I got a card now for the additional space.

2. I wondered whether I would need to take the card out of my NC to download files from my computer.  It turns out I don't need to remove the card from my NC, because when I connect my NC to my laptop with the USB cable the built-in memory of my NC and the SD card appear with different drive letters in Windows.  I've done this with two different laptops, one running Windows XP and one running Windows 7.

3. Maybe somebody who has used ExPdfReader for a while can post some tips here, then others can add their tips so we get a thread of useful information here.

Re: ezPdf is there a user guide

I have PDF's that show up as gray. I believe thats because they are password protected. I can read them on my computer, and besides I thought the EZpdf allows reading of  password protected PDF. Is there a  step Im forgetting to do?

Re: ezPdf is there a user guide

Reading a protected PDF is highly nontrivial because it requires reverse-engineering Adobe's encryption algorithm -- which has been done -- it is dramatically more complex than a simple file format issue.  Adobe's programmers intended it to be difficult.

May or may not be helpful, but this YouTube video at least shows some of the functions:
