Hi, I am a very happy NookColor owner until just now!
I've been reading a ton of library books thru Adobe Digitals Editions but today ,when I connected my NC to my PC, it says that it doesn't recognize the device..it doesn't like the USB port. I moved it all around to no avail
Any help?

Have you tried rebooting both the PC and the NC?
Try removing the SD card(if you have one) then connect to pc.
What OS is on your PC, XP/ Vista32 or Vista 64/Other ?
Let us know how you make out

I got the same (or very similar) message the first bunch of times I connected PC to NC, but I was still able to transfer content back and forth through "my computer", it just looked like a generic USB mass storage device.
It is my understanding that if your pc does not recognize the device, that is an indication that the driver failed to install properly. Something you can try to reinstall the driver:
with the NC connected via usb, click the start button, right click "computer", click "manage", on the left of the pop up window, click "device manager", and on the right, you should see a list of all your drivers. A recognized NC will show in that list as "Nook" or "Nook Color" I forget which. If your NC is not recognized by your PC, my guess is that is will be listed as "usb mass storage device" or "portable device" or something similar.
Double clicking on each driver will reveal a properties window. Select the details tab. In the drop down bar, select manufacturer. Recognized or not, the manufacturer will be listed as "B&N" for the NC driver. Once you find the right one, close the properties window, then right click the driver you identified, then choose "uninstall".
I would wait a few seconds to see if the driver automatically reinstalls, but if not, click "action" in the menu bar, then select "update driver software..." and choose the automatic option. If the driver is not found, I would disconnect the NC, restart PC and NC and reconnect.
Before doing this, I recommend confirming that "my computer" is not capable of recognizing the content on your NC, even as an unrecognized device.
Also, I would feel more comfortable is anybody else can confirm that this is sound advice for a stock NC. Anybody?

I am running Windows7..and have rebooted both my PC and my NC..
I will try your suggestion,Chuck..
..This is not the first time i've connected..I've been reading library books almost exclusively and it has been working wonderfully
I wonder..Could it be the Windows Update I installed...a new service pack?

Good advice chuck.
Not something a person with limited PC skills should get into lightly.

Good bet that that is the issue.
If you have a valid restore point you could try going back and verify.

I have had connection issues with my PC and the Nook Color, but it was an easy issue. The nook was in sleep mode, and all I had to do was wake it up, then slide the "n" slider to wake it up, and it immediatlely connected. I do realize not all usb connectivity issues are that simple to solve, but figured I'd throw out the simplest solution. I've also occasionally had connectivity issues using the charger cable supplied, but success with a standard cable with the proper connector. I think that was a case of my usb ports not having the available juice for the charging circuit, so it failed to recognize the device. Let us know what you find works.

My NC is password locked. It wont connect to my PC via USB until I enter the password and unlock it. I think that makes sense, otherwise the password would offer no protection.
Could this be part of your problem? Simple I know, but are you locked in someway?

Windows 7 USB support is not completely baked yet. I have a group of (very important to me) devices that must always be connected to the port they were connected to first - my keyboard and mouse connectors, which feed a KVM switch for the Win 7 box.
It took some time to figure out what was up the first time - because the keyboard worked fine at boot time, and for flipping values in the BIOS, etc.
What that means for the OP is that it may be worth trying to connect to a different USB port to see if that triggers a driver reinstall.
I find that vmware player has much more robust USB support than the Win 7 usb stack does. And yes, I mean vmware running on the win 7 host.
Redmond for the win, as always.
