I have said this before and I'll say it again, I wish we could control the order books appear on the shelves. Right now they are in alphabetical order, but when I create a shelf for a series, I would like to place them ont he shelp in sequential order. Book one, book two, etc...
My first enook reader, the sony reader, had a 'series' listing option where it will list books by series in sequential order. The nook is a far better reader but I really miss that feature since I read so many series.
Please bring back the onscreen menu
Status: AcknowledgedPlease bring back the onscreen quick menu so we don't have to work the "N" button to death!!!!!! Please, please, please, pretty please
I absolutely hate having to press the "N" button all the time.
The wish list in the Nook Color Shop and our NB.com eBook Wish Lists should be synced.
I cannot understand why the wish list on the Nook Color is not synced with our BN.com account. We all register our nooks to our account so I should not have to manually sync up my lists. This would be especially useful for those who have to reset their nook for tech issues.
This feature should have been installed from the start, but since it wasn't, it would be nice to have the next software update include it.
Please give us a way to back up our settings on the NOOK color...particu larly our shelves

One of the reasons that it may take me a LONG time to switch to a NT from my NC is that I have spent hours organizing my shelves (I have about 700 books on my NC). Please give us a way to backup our shelf settings, so that we can just download the settings to a new device instead of having to reconstruct them from scratch!
No native photo organizer? It's mind blowing.
Status: AcknowledgedWhat we have with both the Color and the new Tablet are perfect platforms to show off our pictures. And neither of them have a way to organize the pictures into folders and, dare I say, sub-folders right out of the box. Does anyone who develops the software at B&N have digital pictures they want to show off? Let me guess, you just have all 4000 pictures in one folder, which basically is what you did with both of these Nooks. Of course not, we all organize our pictures in folders so we can find what we want to look at easily. Not on a Nook, though.
There is an app, Fishbowl, you can download and it does do folders. Unfortunately, the interface is so clunky it's almost unusable. You can look at individual pictures inside of each folder, but in order to get to the next one, you have to swipe your finger the entire length of the picture in order to go to the next one. However. If you don't swipe it right it changes the size of the picture, or it tilts it, or makes it even smaller and then it's hell to get it to move to the next picture. Or you can do a slide show, but if you want to pause so you can look at it longer, you have to press a tiny little icon on the bottom of the screen and then press the pause button in the window that pops up. And then you have to do the same thing again to start the slide show again. Heh?
Here's what us folks with digital photos want on our Nooks. A native organizer that does folders and sub-folders, Then when you tap on the folder you want, the background disappears and all you have to do is touch the right or left side of the screen to move to the next photo. How difficult is that? The Gallery does have the touch feature, rather than having to swipe the entire picture, the only thing it's missing are the folder options.
Will someone at B&N please fix this problem. It's such a simple and common sense way to then have an excellent platform for showing off our pictures. Heck, it would be an added marketing plus as well. All of this is why it is mind blowing that something so simple has not been done.

My husband and I both have Nooks. He reads a few of the same books I do, but mostly we have very different tastes. Both Nooks are registered under the same account, but it is a pain to manage our libraries because both sets of our books show up on both Nooks. It would be great if we could archive books from one Nook while still showing them on another.
When the My Nook section of the website was launched, I thought this was what we were going to be able to do. The Manage Ny Nook page is currently useless. Can you please pass on the request that we be able to show or hide individual books or apps by device?
Does B&N offer a replacement USB charge chord ONLY? My Nook Color was grabbed by a child and the charge chord was 'bent' to the point of not being able to use. I had to purchase the whole charging mechanism for $25 at B&N. I wish the chord was available by itself (and at a reasonable price). I do know that any generic USB chord will NOT function properly as the charging mechanism for the NC.
I believe this is the weakest link in the Nook Color, as the charge chord is located in your stomach area if you're trying to read while plugged in. How about a charge chord that has a 90 degree angle, or better yet, on future designs, place the charge inlet on the side or top of the reader.
I noticed in the new update it says "media" but the image gallery looks and works the same so I'm going to refer to it as "gallery."
I am an artist and I love to not only look at the works of others for inspiration, but I also collect a lot of photography to use for reference. When I first got my nook I thought, "great, I don't have to waste ink and print reference for on the go anymore, I can just take my nook!" So I uploaded a bunch of different folders with labels such as a "horse ref" or "victorian."
So let's say I want to view some reference images of victorian houses, I could go to the gallery, however it is a long unorganized list of thumbnails. To look for the image I want, I would have to scroll down for a while (I have a lot of images on there.) Sometimes if I look at an image and then go back to the grid to look for an image that is not in near succession, the nook will glitch and go back to the beginning of the grid. Now I have to scroll for a minute again.
My other option would be to go Library: My Stuff: My Files: (select either nook or memory card, then: My Files): Pictures: Folder I want to view: then finally select the thumbnail of the image I want to view.
But then most of the reference images were pulled off of google images so they do not have a legible file name, and the thumbnail does not showing the image. So, I select an image to see what it looks like. What if it's not the image I want, or I want to see more?
Can I "flip" the page and look at the next image in the folder? No. Is there a "back" button to return to the folder? No.
What happens if I click the "grid" icon in the corner? (oops, nook froze, can't bring up the grid icon just yet...okay it froze so I had to go back into the library again...here we go, I can view the grid icon now)
If I click the grid icon I am brought into the image gallery. Good thing, right? No, I am now viewing the very beginning of the image gallery, I have no idea where the image I was just looking at is. Not good.
Since the gallery is obviously not going to help me, I have one other choice. When viewing an image in a folder, if I want to view the next image that folder, I must touch the home button and select library to be brought back into that folder. (This is an improvement, certainly, before the update I would also have to select the folder again.)
In conclusion, what would be a really nice improvement on the Nook Color would be:
1. A "back" button when viewing images in my picture folders and the ability to "flip" the page and view the images in succession. If you hit "grid," you are either taken to that spot in the gallery instead of the beginning, or you are shown a grid of just the images in that specific folder.
2. A more user-friendly gallery that includes folders. The ability to tag images would be nice too, but I'm more concerned with the former.
Also, I bought an app called "Image Gallery" from the app store to solve this problem, but it does not work. The developer claims if you do not have a good memory card or the images are too large, then that is the problem. However, I have the images on the nook's drive, not my memory card, and my images are low res. (I am a digital artist, I would know.)
I have left negative reviews three times now and they never show up in the "customer reviews" section for that app. Previous negative reviews from other people also disappear. Something needs to be done about that because a lot of people are getting ripped off.
I would much rather B&N fix their image gallery so I won't have to wait around for an independent developer to create another shoddy app. I know you guys can do better. You may view the gallery as an unimportant side feature, but to some of us it would make the Nook an even more useful and versatile tool. Please fix the gallery!
Export and backup notes and highlights from Nookbooks
Status: AcknowledgedI would like a way to export the notes and highlights I make on Nookbooks so 1) I could use them in papers or blogs or other media, 2) sync notes and highlights between my various Nooks and 3) backup the notes or highlights in the event of a need to factory reset said Nooks. This goes for the Nook Color and Tablet as well.
I have the volume on my NookColor set to max but it is still quite soft. There's a whole thread about needing to increase the volume on the Nook Color support forum. Is there some way this could be corrected via a software update? I just purchased my NC a few weeks ago, and other than for the volume issue, I am enjoying it very much.
I think I first raised a concern about the NC contact app back in February 2011. I had hoped that one of the updates would improve that app, but no luck.
The current contact app is insufficient for a number of reasons. For now, I'll focus just on one issue: no reasonable way to keep your contacts in sync with your Gmail contacts. OK, one more issue: the fields supported in the current contact app are insufficient by any reasonable measure.
Easy answer: provide access to the Google Contact app on the BN Nook market. If Google won't cooperate, then one of the other Android market apps that provide for contact management would be a solution. I checked a couple of days ago and no suitable contact manager was then available on the BN Nook market.
I suppose from the BN perspective the contact app is really there only to support Nook Friends, and not to provide a useful contact manager for NC owners.
Thoughts?
Here's my wish list of various items, after upgrading to version 1.4.
Better offline support. The e-mail app blanks the list when refreshing, which is a problem when offline or no network is available. A workaround is to set it to sync manually. The browser will also try to refresh when offline.
Always blank the screen after 10 seconds or so when on the lock screen, no matter what timeout is set. This minimizes backpack discharging.
Add an "always on when charging" power setting.
Add the Browser and Dictionary apps to the applications list.
Allow browser shortcuts to be added to the Home screen.
Add a gesture to return to the Home screen, to avoid overusing the Home button. It's almost possible to get by without using this button (I'm afraid it will eventually wear out).
More file management functions, such as moving and renaming files. For example, when I download a file from an e-mail, I'd like to be able to move it out of the Downloads folder.
A browser gesture to pop open the tool bar at the top without having to scroll all the way back up. This would be useful on long pages.
Allow sorting and rearranging of the browser's favorites. Folders would be nice as well.
Folders in the photo album would be nice, supporting per-folder slideshows. This is a must for business presentations, art portfolios, design reviews, etc.
Finally, I'd love to see G-Mail integration on this device.
By the way, thank you for integrating PDF support into the built-in reader. Remembering my spot in a 300-page PDF was very difficult; now my Nook remembers for me.
Thank you very much for your hard work.
Although this isn't the first time this has been mentioned, BUT... I would like to see a NEW category. After reviewing the entire list or a specific category a couple of times, the typical owner probably has purchased those apps that look useful, and now would like to see only those added since their last visit, or perhaps in the last two weeks or last month. This NEW category would be useful at least to me.
This is a pet peeve of mine. Whenever I download and read a sample then decide to buy the book, I have to hunt for wherever I left off. The page numbers don't always match up and I have to admit I don't always take note of what page I was on in the sample before hitting "Buy".
I would LOVE it if B&N could somehow make this process more seamless. It would be wonderful to be reading along in a sample, click "buy", and just keep on reading without interruption. I, for one, would buy more books if this were the case since on several occasions that extra little hassle made me think twice and decide not to buy.
I have downloaded the Words with Friends app on my Nook Color and the best feature about it is the arrow that appears at the bottom of the screen. The arrow allows you to move back to the previous screen and/or your home screen without using the N Button. It would be great if this arrow feature was available when playing Scrabble as well and as a whole.
If I want to go back to the book that I am reading or to the home when playing Scrabble, the N Button must be utilized to do so. Which means the N Button is getting pressed repeatedly.
The arrow feature would be th solution to this potential problem.
I know this has been posted several places on these boards, but I would like a calendar app that syncs with Windows Live Calendar or Google Calendar for offline viewing.
Fliq Calendar doesn't work well because the syncing software is so expensive and it doesn't work with my version of MS Office.
I would like to see an open source API for shelving so Calibre and other programs could work directly with my Nook Color to sort out shelving (as well as store backups of my shelving configurations). This suggestion goes for the Nook Tablet and Nook Simple Touch as well.
I've been through a couple of new versions of NC firmware now and really appreciate B&N's efforts. I love my NC!
But very annoying is the lack of an "empty trash" function in the email app. Or at least a "select all" so that a delete touch will empty the trash. Even with a confirmation dialog, that would be fine. Emptying the trash is so tedious, and I've waited every new version in hopes that this trivial and what I thought was obvious feature would be added. At 1.4.1 now and still.... ugh. Unless I'm missing something...
Thanks
