When I upgraded to version 1.4.1, I found that I no longer have the option to change text size when reading a library book.  When I called support, they verified that this option 'disappeared' with the new version.  This is very important to me, since a lot of my reading is of library books, and one of the main reasons I bought the NOOK was to be able to adjust the text size.  I'm very disappointed and certainly hope that this is going to be corrected soon!!

About ready for a class action lawsuit

Ok I am sick to death over this proprietary "charging system" for nook color...wanna know how many usb charging cords I've had to buy since August of 2011?  I'm on my 8th one.  Withing the first week of getting my nook color the cord broke right at that little piece that plugs into the nook.(I'm not very Tech savvy)The nook was a gift to me and was unfortunately bought at Staples,( I'll never buy anything there again either, but thats a different story.) I've yet to get a cord that last longer than 3-4 weeks at most. This current one I purchased about 2 weeks before Christmas  and guess what? It's broken , suprise surprise. As much as I love my Nook, I'm about ready to sell it and try the Kindle...

 

Anyone else having these issues?

Now that I have the 1.4 update, I can no longer read my pdf books on my SD card and today I was unable to load a book that I borrwed from the Library. When I open the ADE on my computer it doesn't see the NOOK - have tried all the instructions I can find on these boards and still problems. Have just dragged it over to the Nook (using MyComputer), but now it says there is no Library token for the book.

 

FRUSTRATED! Ideas?

1.4.1 upgraded from 1.3 (and 1.2 after factory-restore)

 

- What happened?

1. The magazine reader chops off the top of magazines after zoom-in, panning to view the top of the magazine is not possible.  Any text near the top of the magazine (estimated to be within 1 inch of the top) is unreadable unless the NC is switched to landscape view before zoom-and-pan.

2. Sometimes a random blank page appears instead of the actual magazine page.

3.  Page numbers are not visible on thumbnail views of the pages.  But maybe this is a new "feature" and not a bug.

 

- What were you doing?

Reading any image-based magazine that uses zoom-and-pan.  Magazines tested include Guitar World, Harvard Business Review, and The Writer.  Analog (text only) is not affected.

 

- Does this happen every time?

Yes.  Magazines using pan-and-zoom are no longer functional and at the very least I want a refund on my subscriptions for this month.

 

- Did this happen with previous firmware?

No.

 

- Does power cycling the unit solve this?

No.

 

- If related to B&N content, does archiving/unarchiving solve this?

No.

 

- Does Erasing & Deregistering solve this?*

Unknown.  I've already erased and restored to factory defaults twice (see below), re-downloaded my nookbooks without highlights and notes, and made me a very unhappy customer.  Why did I even bother with highlighting notes if they will disappear with the next botched update or with a new nook device?

 

- Does resetting to factory defaults solve this?**

No.  I reverted my NC to its 1.2 firmware using the eight failed boot process, erasing all my notes, highlights, and shelves.  Magazines work properly in 1.2 and also in the 1.3 version I was using before the "upgrade."  When I upgrade my pristine NC to 1.4.1 from factory-default 1.2, before downloading any magazines or nookbooks, the pan-and-view problem occurs again.  I have reset back to 1.2 so I can attempt to use my NC to read the "stack" of magazines I was planning to read while on vacation.

 

- Have you tried this on other devices?

Yes.  My wife's 1.4.1 NC is affected as well.  I verified this with one of her back-issues of Shape magazine.  Her NC was probably a 1.2 factory version (purchased in March 2010).  There are reports in the Boards from other users who have this problem as well.  No solutions have been posted.  After one week of waiting, email support has not responded with anything but a canned recommendation to "upgrade to 1.4.1"

Manual update problems

Status: New

I can not get my NookColor to update manually.  I followed the instructions and downloaded the zipfile to my desktop.  Hooked up my NookColor and dragged the zipfile to the main directory of the Nook.  I can see the download transferring to the NookColor.  I then eject the NookColor and briefly can see a little zipfile icon on the lower left corner of the NookColor.  The NookColor goes to sleep and then when I check sometime later, the download did not happen.  I have done this five times, only downloaded the zipfile to my computer once.  What did I do wrong?  What is my next step?  Frustrating, both because I am still waiting for the automatic download and also for the failure for the manual download.

Any assistance is welcomed.

NC chess en-passant bug

I am facing an issue with the chess application. The en-passant rule is applied correctly when the NC is capturing my pawn, but when roles are reversed, i.e I try to capture a pawn en-passant, my pawn moves to the right square, but the NC pawn is still on the board! I have tried this several times with the same result.

 

So suppose I'm playing white and I have a pawn on the c5 square and the NC has a pawn on b7. If the NC plays pawn b7-b5, I should be able to capture it with cxb5 e.p, and my pawn should land on b6. However, the black pawn remains on b5 after my move though my pawn moves to b6. This does not happen when roles are reversed.

After the upgrade it has become super sensitive and types in wrong letters - it is so frustrating having to type something over and over again until it is correct - i went settings to see if i can fix it and nothing - please help - it is not fun anymore

power button does not work

Status: New

My power button has stopped responding on my nook color, and since freezing is an issue with it, I can no longer reboot it to solve the problem. So my nook is stuck in shopping mode, can't reboot, its one month out of warranty. and I am out of luck :smileysad:

After reading some of the others issues, mine is minor but still and annoyance.  After upgrading to 1.4.1 when I use an app it is pinned to the bottom of my home screen.  I have tried to adjust the settings, deselected the option to have this happen, but it still happens.  It did not happen with the previous firmware.

 - What happened? When I use an app it pins it to the bottom of my home screen despite my not selecting this option in the settings page.

 

 - What were you doing? Use an app and then return to home screen

 

 - Does this happen every time? No, seems only to happen when I use an app that I purchased.  It does not seem to happen when I use an app that came already installed.

 

- Did this happen with previous firmware? No.  In the previous firmware my selection on the settings page worked.

 

 - Does power cycling the unit solve this? No

 

 - If related to B&N content, does archiving/unarchiving solve this? Have not tried this.  Can you archive apps?

 

 - Does Erasing & Deregistering solve this?*  No, and won't try it.  Minor annoyance not worth the hassle.

 

 - Does resetting to factory defaults solve this?**  Again not worth the trouble for minor issue.

 

 - Have you tried this on other devices? No, only have one nook to try it on.

- I cannot update my reading status to facebook any more. It switches to some friends screen and sits there 'loading' and doesnt do anything. I have x'ed out of the loading but it wont post reading statuses anymore. Prohibits posting to reading group there.

- Deleted mail reloads in the app

-Sometimes the battery icon appears to be charging when the Nook is not charging

2. Sometimes when going to the next page, the page displayed is many pages forward.

3. Sometime when advancing to the next page I get a display showing two partial pages.
