1.4.2 not installing

Ive tried the manual way and letting it come through on its own. This update will not install. When it reboots, i get an android guy with a yield sign and the only thing i can do is reboot. Any help would be great. Ive tried erasing the nook but that didnt help.

See this link for a the problem and cure

Somehow, my guess is that your nook color has had some internal B&N files replaced with Clockwork Recovery files and this is preventing the update. When doing a stock update from one B&N software version to another, android guys, penguins and triangles with exclamation marks are a sign that you've got some work ahead of you.

This failure will occur whether you sideload the new B&N update or wait for an over-the-air update. To get the new B&N update, you need to replace the Clockwork files with the expected B&N files.

Re: 1.4.2 not installing

I see this thread is a month old; however I went through the pain of manual installation failure today.  I have never tried to use my NC for anything but what it was mean't for.  No special tablet functions using non B&N software.

The first try, I downloaded the 1.4.2 compressed file to my downloads folder in my windows 7 version desktop computer.  I plugged the USB cable into my NC and desktop and brought up my download folder and the Nook Color NC menu  then dragged the zip folder onto the NC menu. I unplugged the cable and awaited results with no success.  Did not seem to want to easily install as previous versions had.

Starting over,  I deleted the zip folder from the NC and and my download folder and disconnected the USB cable.  I then held down the power switch on the side of the NC and turned it completely off.  I waited about 30 seconds then held the power button down long enough to reboot the NC. I also went to the NC setting folder and set my display timeout to 2 minutes to have the NC go to sleep in a minimum amount of time.

I then went through the NC software update 1.4.2 zip download to my download folder and again connected the NC USB cable to the computer.  I went to Start, Computer on my desktop and opened the NC menu.  I then dragged the zip folder from my download folder back onto the NC menu.  I disconnected the cable and not touching anything layed the NC down.  Only the start menu with the "drag across" function was showing.  It took a while and did not blackout as it normally did.  I looked over a few minutes later and the installation was in progress.

Don't ask me, and good luck to all of you going through pain.  Don

Re: 1.4.2 not installing

I gave up and went to a BnN store. They had troubles as well. Took about 15 minutes all up.
