Re: Email keeps reloading inbox!

First, kudos to daenas and HumbleCorrespondent for your rebuttles to RogerMD.  My thoughts exactly. Well said!

One more thing to pass on to everyone:

I posted on the Nook FaceBook page a copy of my "letter" to B&N regarding this email issue.  "Zoe" from B&N responded and requested that I email her my problems and information.  I did so immediately.  She responded via email a few hours later with:  B&N knows about it.  B&N is working on it.  We have no timetable for resolution.  Sorry.

Thanks!  And in other words we're no better off than NOT knowing what's going on with the email app.  LOL

Re: Email keeps reloading inbox!

Having the same problem but only from my ATT account. So far my gmail account is Ok. Unfortunately this is my default account. Seeting given to me by ATT are:

popserver3 inbound.att.net

Port 995

Security SLL

smpt server: outbound.att.net

Port; 456

Security: SLL

Was set to never delete from server. I tried to change it to delete when I delete from inbox. I am unable to do this. All I get is a message,"Checking server settings." Looks like something is happening but it's not as I have been getting the same message for 10 minutes. I can get to my ATT mail by going to the ATT website. How do I remove this account from my Nook until the problem is fixed? The constant notifications are driving me nuts!

Re: Email keeps reloading inbox!

I'm having the same issue.  BUT also notice that the only emails I can open are the ones with TEXT ONLY. Any email that has images or HTML will continuously clock and not load.  This needs to be fixed.

Re: Email keeps reloading inbox!

Have changed my settings to "never check for incoming" & turned off notifications. Still reloads every time I read a message & reverts back to "unread". Unable to change settings for 'delete email from server." Whenever I try and change ANY setting related to incoming it goes into "Checking incoming server setting..." & just hangs there. Can't cancel out or check "Ok." to exit. Have to totally shut down Nook to get out of this lookp. Also notice my settings for security had changed from SSL to None. I never touched it! Have 2 accounts & same thing happens. Went into to trash bins and manually deleted the deletions as appears there is no way to empty trash. De-registering & re-installing everything is a cop out "get them off the phone" solution & does not solve the problem. Also, while reading your mail from your web based account is a work-around if this is what has to be done to read your email why bother having an email app?

Can't believe more people have not complained. Mustt be because a lot of people never even try to set up email or are not computer savvy enough to  know this is not "normal." Tablet users also have this problem & I don't know how you can call something a Tablet when it can't handle a function as basic as email. This  is not a "user error" brought on by improper settings & best to admit & fix it pronto instead of giving customer the run-around & inconvenienceing then with "fixes" that serve no purpose except to temporary remove them from the support que. Sorry for the rant, but I'm really annoyed!

Re: Email keeps reloading inbox!

I'm sorry but is there ANYONE working on this? Its been so long and not one reply from BN other than "working on it"? I have been hoping someone would design a new email app. but I have not seen anything while shopping for apps. With the new update 1.4.1 my web browser will up and crash in the middle of reading my news. Does B&N not like fark.com? Waiting (and fearing) for 1.4.2

Re: Email keeps reloading inbox!

[ Edited ]

After months of frustration because B&N has failed to support its product (I have a Nook Color), I finally broke down and bought a Nook2Android 16GB Rooted Micro SD card from the seller "Android4Nook" on eBay.  I think it was around $35.  This allowed me to "root" my NC without changing anything on in the actual NC itself (supposedly not voiding any warranty).  I now use my NC like it's an Android and have no issues with email.  The biggest drawback to doing this is that you have to reboot to switch back to the Nook side.  But at least I can fully utilize my email and not have it constantly reloading and driving me nuts.  Using this SD card also gives me the ability to use the Android Market to find other apps.   This is a very simple thing and even a non-techie like myself had no problems slipping the SD card in its slot and "presto chango", my Nook Color works as an Android. (The SD card came with very clear instructions.)

I remain disillusioned with B&N and by no means am happy with my NC and their latest version of the software.  I would much rather have spent that $35 at B&N for NookBooks and apps for my NC.   Again, all I can say is shame on B&N for failing its customer base and ignoring this issue.

Re: Email keeps reloading inbox!

An alternative to rooting would be to use a web-based e-mail client like Yahoo Mail.  Rather than download messages you can simply keep them on their servers.  Another advantage of this approach is that you  have full access to your contacts, sent items and personal folders.  I have also recently found that the Yahoo Mobile Messenger works very well for IM (Instant Messaging) from the Nook.

Re: Email keeps reloading inbox!

I agree wholeheartedly with your post.  I recently ordered a N2A card that hopefully will be here soon.  My problem with B&N is their lack of communication regarding the bugs caused by the 1.4.1 update.  The e-mail reloading is annoying and there are certainly ways around it such as going through the internet to access your e-mail accounts.  However, there are other issues caused by the update that affect the heart of the NC - which is being an ereader.  The issues with the fonts, the magazine reader, etc. are unacceptable and not fully addressed.  I'm hoping that within the next couple of months we'll have another update that corrects the bugs.

In the meantime, I'm also going over to the "other side" - the android tablet.  I'm hoping that being able to access the full android market will somehow placate me until the NC side is fixed:smileyhappy:

Re: Email keeps reloading inbox!

Check you settings for processing your email.  On some servers, you must change the setting to remove the email from server after download.  Otherwise, it keeps going back to the server and fetching your mail again.

I don't want to delete it from the server when retrieving on my Nook Color, so this isn't a good solution for me. It is not a server behavior issue, but an email application behavior problem. The client should not try to re-retrieve the email it has already retrieved, whether it's still on the server or not. Before 1.4.1 upgrade, this all worked fine. See earlier posts in this long thread for details.

Re: Email keeps reloading inbox!

Well looks like the Nook Tablet got an update which includes the email fix.

Now we wait for the Nook Color.

Alex,

Anytime soon?

Thanks, good to know. Let's hope the nc's not too far behind the tablet for an update and a fix now.

And this is after you upgraded to 1.4.2? If so, I'd try removing and redoing the settings.

I can confirm that the 1.4.2 update has corrected the email problem, at least with my email server (1and1.com) and as far as I have tested it.

Re: Email keeps reloading inbox!

Well - I discovered the problem isn't completely resolved, but it is mostly. I have about 16 emails sitting on the server and in my NC inbox. Occasionally, the mail program will mark a couple of the old ones as unread again (reload them from server?), for no particular reason. Very odd. But at least it's not always reloading all of them all the time. Just a couple now and then. It's progress!

Re: Email keeps reloading inbox!

I'm also still having issues with my e-mail after the 1.4.2 update.  I deleted both accounts and started anew and I'm getting reloads and even the occasional duplicating of e-mail.

I have two e-mail accounts on my NC - comcast and msn.
