Re: Everything Else

I do . . . and in that section I have "Content Not Supported on This Device (1) -- issue of The New Yorker, Dec 13, 2010.

This was a surprise!  I expected the section to be empty. :smileyvery-happy:

Re: Everything Else

After update I also have (everything else) in my stuff. All my app were transferred over there and I keep getting the message that the app is not supported on this nook. Help anyone else having this problem?

Re: Everything Else

I'm also having this problem and this is the first place I've seen anyone talking about it. I saw on another forum that somebody's EZPDF automatically updated. I'm hoping they're just not updated yet. I went to the apps page and selected "check for updates" and the wheel at the bottom left has been spinning at the bottom left like it's doing something for the last half hour but I haven't seen any other evidence. Anybody had this and found an answer?

Re: Everything Else

I just got off the phone with customer support and I had to deregister that was the only way to fix the problem. They said if that didn't work then I had to go into the store and have them reset the software. According to her they have been having quite a few problems with the new update and are still trying to work out the kinks.... UGH

Thank goodness I backed everything up, it's just so time consuming

Re: Everything Else

Don't deregister! I just found a workaround that seems to be working.

1) Go to My Nook on BarnesandNoble.com

2) Move the item from active to archive

3) Move the item from archive to active

4) Move the item back to archive

Steps 2-4 get the file out of "Everything else" and into the archive

5) Go to Archive on your Nook

6) Update the Archive; the app should appear

7) Click the item, select manage and unarchive

So far, I've gotten four of my archives back and working without going back to square one.

Good luck!

Re: Everything Else

Geoff...I finally figured out my prob. I removed my SD card and powdered up. erased/deregistered and that seems to have fixed things. I guess the SD card was causing the glitch cause my apps are downloading into the app drawer as I type.

I no longer have the "everything else" in My Stuff tab.

Re: Everything Else

TV.com is not in the store anymore, and may very well be not supported. That was the only thing of mine that was in "everything else" after the update. After archiving some things with out issue, though, when I trided to archive somemore things last night, they ended up in "everything else" too. Thanks and laurels to GeoffB72 for the solution.
That's just my opinion, you can take it for what it's worth, or just leave it alone.

This could be the difference:

I sideloaded update, then decided to go to B&N and get partitioned. To partition they had to deregister and register my nook. Then they reloaded the update. I think having the update installed after the reregistering put the update on a very clean slate.

Re: Everything Else

It seems like there's some glitch in how the new os registers old programs (and also some special old content like certain kids books). The key, it looks like, per what I wrote above, is that most of the content isn't bad. You just need to get around the glitch where it automatically tells you it can't install and get it to the archive so that you can reinstall it without the device "helping" by telling you not to bother.

To the person with the TV.com problem: When I was trying to reinstall EZPDF and it was still in the everything else category, I couldn't get it to show up in the shop (at least from my Nook). That's including a direct search for EZPDF. But once I got it out of everything else and into the archive, I was able to reinstall it. It may be that the same thing putting stuff in everything else on the Nook is also leaving things you supposedly can't install out of your shop services as part of some mechanism to make sure you can't accidentally buy an app you can't run. The TV.com app is still in the nook store. So don't give up. Go to the bn website and move it back and forth between archive and active a few times. After the second time or so that you've moved it to archive, go to the archive section and refresh. If it shows up, you may yet be able to reinstall it.

Good luck!

yay! It worked!  Thank you, thank you!   Next time there is an update, my nook and I are going to go far away until it's all over!

Re: Everything Else

Thank you Geoff! I was in a panic because my notes and my calendar were inaccessible. I followed these steps and I have everything back where it belongs! Sooo glad I ignored customer support's advice. If I had deregistered, all my data would have been lost. You made my day.

I completely agree.  And laurels to Geoff for a solution that could save many NC owners from a lot of grief.

Now how do we get this info to B&N Customer Service, so they won't continue to recommend their universal pancea of deregister-reregister?

OK.  I PM'ed Alex with this.

Maybe Geoff's contribution can save many more people from the headache of deregistering, and losing all their local content that can't be backed up (another problem in and of itself).

Re: Everything Else

[ Edited ]

For those running 1.3 rooted and using a 1.4.1 build.prop, I've just discovered that this trick (archive, unarchive) works for the New Yorker, which is at long last available on the NC without pain.

Thank you all for suggesting this.

For the New Yorker, all I had to do was to archive/unarchive once on the website for one issue.  Issues still displayed but not available to me on my NC could be archived and unarchived there;  also, the archive shelf had a bunch of copies on it, which unarchived just fine.  Not sure what to make of the archived copies - I don't remember putting them there.

The fly in the ointment here is that - at least for the Christmas issue - I'm getting the enhanced version of the mag.  150 meg (which is mostly content I don't want) and the 1.2 reader I use won't open it.

But now, I know the filename, and can grab the file from teh NST and put it on the NC and change the file name from

blahblahblah.v1.epub to

blahblahblah_afs.epub

The nook color looks at it, says "oh, this epub ties to this file" and opens it when I hit the cover.

I hope that the christmas issue of the New Yorker was an aberration, but I fear that it's not, and I'll be getting future titles shown me as those huge files and I'll be manually bringing them over still.

The up side is that it will work for showing the cover, and I think I'm getting sync between the NST and the NC on this title now. (even with the file substitution.)

This *might* be enough to persuade me to update, now that root's available.  The performance hit's annoying, and if every new yorker going forward's going to be enormous, I'll need to keep bringing across the sanely sized ones.

Re: Everything Else

Thank you so much for your advice GeoffB72. I was having this problem and followed these steps and it seems to be working. It took a bit of time because I had a lot of  magazines that were in the everything else area. Now I just need to get my email from reloading everything after I delete it. I think I read a post that said I needed to unregister and reregister my email accounts. Anyone else have any experience with this?

So I got that goin for me........which is nice.
