Free Book Download Declined?

I was downloading a few free e-books and got an error message for one stating "the credit card issuer is not approving the charge". My card info is up to date and I have money in the account, so I don't believe it's a validation charge issue. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

BN pings the card to verify it is active, even for free books.  Some cc companies, if a lot of small charges go through in a short period of time, will block any further charges until it can be looked into.  You only say you were downloading a few, have you ever downloaded this many books consecutively before?  That conceivable could be the problem.  I know a while back someone reported this happening to them.

I've downloaded a few at a time before with no problems; the book I had problems with would have been my fourth today. I'll give it a day or two and try it again. Thanks!

Because the credit card number is used to create the DRM encryption key.  If there's no valid credit card on the account, the DRM can't be applied and the book can't be downloaded.

There are multiple threads discussing the hows, the whys, the pros, the cons.  Here are just a few:

It's important to note that currently only B&N's DRM requires a credit card to encrypt/unencrypt, but that requirement provides some specific benefits that the other versions of DRM currently used do not.
