Free friday

Thank you. I went to the The Nook blog and retrieved it.  I was just wondering why it did not show up on my Nook Color.  It has always come up on Fridays.  But this Friday it did not show up, not even after I turned if off and back on.  It just never showed up.

I own 2 Nook Color devices. For the past 2 weeks I have not seen the Free Friday page which is usually located on the top portion of the "Shop Home" page. I thought for some reason it might have been one of the actual devices. However once I checked both of them to find no Free Friday book, I went to Google. It doesn't seem like many people are having this issue or they are not being vocal about it.

I can manually turn on my computer and navigate to the Barnes & Noble website and download the Free Friday book that way, but to be honest it is a major pain in the butt.

Has anyone else been having this problem? Has anyone found a fix? Did Barnes & Noble move the Free Friday book to a different location on the device?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you are reading this and you are having the same problem, please post to this forum so we can get Barnes and Noble to bring back our Free Friday book to the Nook Color Shop Home page on the device.

Yes... I have this same issue with my NC, the Free Friday selection not showing up.  I also own, however, the original Nook and the "Daily" section of that always shows the Free Friday book. { Why the NC doesn't offer these 'daily essays' has always puzzled me.  It's a really nice service, and it's the only reason I still use the original Nook, once a day, to read the essays and check on Free Friday and also "App Buzz" on Mondays.)

Anyway, if you know what the Free Friday selection is, by going to the blog or whatever, then all you have to do is to bring that book up in your NC's shop area (search for it by TITLE... I've tried searching by author and for some reason, BN won't show the free Friday selection under the author's name.  Strange, huh?), and it will show it as 'free.'  Then you can just download it.  You don't have to go through the website to do this.  It's a lot quicker/easier, but you've first got to find out what the free book is.

It's been at least two weeks since Free Friday has shown up on my NC.  I don't care that much; I'm seldom interested in the book anyway, even for free.

Yes, I keep the Unbound Nook in my favorites in the web area on my Nook and I go there to download it.  But I did like this feature being in the shop area.  But if its been eliminated, I would like to know this.  It was a handy feature for those of us who are technically challenged.

I have also not had the Free Friday show up on my Nook color the last two weeks. I also own the Nook Simple Touch and I was able to download it from there.

The free friday book is still in the NC.  You need to go to the shop page home page.  A series of advertisments will pass and then the book free book will appear.

No, I'm sorry it is not on my shop page.  That is the problem.  It is not showing up on the shop page or any other page on my Nook.  And I can see I'm not the only one with this problem.  Maybe its a glitch that will clear its self by next Friday.  Hopefully.

It didn't show in shop this week but that is normally not the place I look any way. Nook info is one of the few things I use Facebook. Generally I check while I am at work and get it that way.

Fortunately for me, I have never had this problem.  But, here are a few things you can try:

1)  On the home page of the shop, press and hold the word "shop" in the upper left-hand corner until you see the rotating circle in the upper right-hand corner.  This forces a refresh of the shop.

2)  In the web browser, use the drop-down menu in the upper left-hand corner to select "More Options", then select "settings".  Scroll down and select "Clear Cache", and select "OK" to clear the cache.  Then, do "1)" again.  Even though one is the Store, and the other is the Web Browser, their cache / memory use seem to overlap.

3)  Even though the Free Friday book is usually posted fairly early, on rare occasion it is posted later, so try again later in the morning.

I hope this helps.  Let us know what happens on Friday.

Thank you.  I will give this a try and let you know next Friday.  This is something I would not have thought of.  I forget how much like a big computer the little nookcolor is.  Although I clear my history, I never thought of clearing the cache. Again thanks.  Hopefully it will work.

I don't know if this will help or not, but my Free Friday hasn't shown up on my NC for more weeks than I care to remember.  In response, I have gotten into the habit of checking here on the Community Forum under the Nook Blog.   JeremyCesarec posts the Free Friday selection and description and hotlink every friday am.  Good luck.

Thanks A Wilson and Humble.  Yes I keep Unbound Nook blog in my favorites on the web on my nook.  That way my free friday is still on my nook.  Thanks for your help guys.  It looks like its a B&N problem and not our nooks.

For the last two Fridays, the Free Friday has not shown on my Shop page.  There are 8 pages in Shop and my Free Friday usually showed up on the last one.  I noticed last week that B&N has added "Jules Picks - Mystery Expert" on page 8.  Perhaps this is why Free Friday is missing on mine.

I really wish B&N would allow us to choose the genre of books we would like to see on our Shop pages.  There are at least two subject offerings I would choose to delete!  I would prefer to have my Free Friday back!

Greetings helpful Nook Color community...one question that I have regarding the Free Friday, and my apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere, as I did search for info/threads before replying here...but, with the "new" software and the "new" look and feel of the Shop (by new, I mean the new look of the Shop and how it functions compared to a few weeks ago) I cannot seem to find a page/screen within the Shop that promotes the Free Friday book like the Shop had promoted the Free Friday book on Feb 17th 2012...when I happily selected, read and thoroughly enjoyed the free book.

The software on my Nook Color seemingly changed by the next Friday, Feb 24th, 2012...where there was a new look/feel to the Shop...the screens at the top do not automatically move across to promote, highlight, spotlight books anymore, at least not liked they used to...and on February 24th there was no moving screen (six dots at the top of the Shop seemingly referenced the six moving screens) or scrollable menu of books that featured a Free Friday screen--if I recall the screen that highlighted the Free Friday was the third or fourth screen. I was only able to discover that the Free Friday book for Feb 24th, 2012 was A World I Never Made by James LePore when a Nook Color expert person mentioned/linked me to the Nook Color blog "Unbound" via a chat discussion.

Is this the only way to now discover the Free Friday? Will there no longer be a Free Friday pushed to me via the Shop? Am I going to have to get into a habit of checking the Unbound blog every Friday? I would really prefer that B&N push the Free Friday at me like they did on my first Free Friday, via those old, moving screens...
