Unlike the Nook, the NookColor does not have an option to stop music, once it's started. It's possible to pause but not stop. The only way I have been able to stop the music from playing is to power off the NookColor. I have sent several emails to B&N but their response is always the same - either they have too many emails to answer or see manual for assistance (the manual is no help). Anyone, out there, have any answers.

It "ought" to be the case, from a system point of view (battery life, etc.), that pause is the same as stop. Remember that Android keeps as many applications as possible active in memory, There is no way on an unrooted NC to actually force an application to exit.
This behavior is not supposed to be a problem in Android, but folks on various tablets have reported issues that they attribute to this cause. In any case, 2.2 is supposed to be an improvement in this area.

I am just browsing around in general and just read some posts about the battery issues. So this is probably one reason battery depletes so quickly on my NC! I checked - and sure enough - the music is just paused, but still eating battery I bet!
A definite need for functionality correction for the next version of the OS!

I just tried to power off the NC, but when I powered it back on the music app was still just paused.

Hello the only way I can get it to stop is by holding down the song with your finger to bring up a menu that gives you the option to remove the song from the playlist. That will stop the music. If you have more than one song listed, you have to do it for each song.

Hi Deione21, There is no need to disrupt your playlist. Just hit the pause button. The music app may remain open, but there is no processing of the files happening and no power to the speaker (that is the biggest drain to the battery I would guess.) When you return to the home page, the music icon at the bottom will dissappear.
