This doesn't seem to be working for my nook color. I am powering down ignoring the power off command, I am then powering it back on while holding the home button and releasing it as soon as the read forever logo comes up. The gray nook symbol comes up, but it dosen't turn yellow or anything it just goes to the Nook color by barnes and noble and the then goes to the home screen that still has my customer wallpaper and everthing.

The original post is from 2011 and the hard reset described worked on earlier versions of the Nook Color software. Now you need to go into settings and click "Erase & Deregister" for a factory reset.

I just reset my nook this way and I found you have to let go just AFTER the red forever logo appears not as soon as it appears give it about a sec or two. See if that works. Good luck.
