My NC is acting very wonky. Frustrated.

I've had these problems on and off but the last 2 weeks, it's been constant problem.

Doesn't want to turn the page or turns a page back instead of forward. Sometimes turns a few chapters back.

OFTEN I can't slide the bar to wake it up, especially if it is plugged into the charger.

OFTEN I can't switch between reading modes, fonts because the menu won't stay up, just flickers on real quick and then disappears. Or the opposite happens, it comes up but I can't get it to go away. That actually happens on all the menu pop ups.

The brightness slide: And when it does come up, I slide it to brighten more, it immediately slides itself completely down again.

Sometimes it charges when it's plugged in, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it tells me is charging when it is not plugged in.

Sometimes it refuses to go to the page I want it on. Will reset itself to read somewhere else. Usually somewhere random.

In the past, rebooting or shutting it down and restarting it in a few minutes has solved the problem. Now it is just an exercise in frustration because I have to deal with the bar not wanting to slide again once it reboots. I've also archived the majority of my ebooks to free up memory. I'm only keeping 150 or so on my NC now.

I'm an avid reader. I read every chance I get. But this is seriously interfering in my reading habit. ack...

I eventually get where I want to go, but it's frustrating getting there.

Is your nook up to date with the latest software? It should be 1.4.2. You can check that under settings-device info. If not that can cause major issues. Also, make sure your charger is actually charging. If it isn't that can cause issues too.

It is up to date and has been since the update came out. I check when it's charging to make sure it is actually charging. Sometimes I have to reseat the charger several times until it works. I charge it every night.

I also keep the wifi off when I don't need it, popped my sdhc card out, tried a different charging cable, removed the screen protector. Can't think of anything else to try.

You may need to a factory reset on your NC.  See this thread if you need instructions. Look for donc13's post about two thirds of the way down the page. If it's convenient, you can take your NC to your local B&N and they will do it for you.

If you have games on your NC, you will lose any progress you've made in them, your shelves, if you use them, will be gone, and I think any highlights and bookmarks you may have will be gone. You shoulg probably archive your books and apps before you do the reset.

okay, thanks. As it usually goes when you decided you've had enough and you go to complain...it decides to behave itself and act normal. Which is good I suppose. I'm not going to mess with it again unless it starts acting up again, then I will do the reset on the page that was posted.

Hopefully I won't have to do that but I appreciate all the help. I love my NC.

Also, you shouldn't have to reseat the charger. I would go into a store or the hotline to get another one. Not charging correctly causes ALOT of issues. It might be plugged in and seem like it's charging, but not actually be charging. The charger USB is covered under the base warranty, and in the 2 year protection plan if you purchased one. See if you can get your hands on one, and that might fixx all of your problems.

(Especially since it seems to be working fine at times, I bet those times it actually is being charged, while the other times it isn't.)

Thank you. I think I'm going to have to do that after all. I've noticed in the last couple of days, that 90% of the problems happen when it is plugged in. Unplug it, straightens itself out. I've tried 2 different chargers and it doesn't matter which one I use, just plugging it in sends it into wonky land.

I do watch it when it's charging, checking the battery level occasionally to make sure it is charging. One morning getting up to a dead NC was all it took to make me double checking it all the time.

Re: My NC is acting very wonky. Frustrated.

Well, after doing the hard reset as suggested above, erase and deregistering, and then re-registering, the NC seemed better. Not right, but acting up less often and severely for a couple days, then back to it's old tricks. Now it doesn't work when it's plugged in either, crazy.

So I called B&N customer support this morning and they've okayed a replacement that I can pick up from the Round Rock B&N store this afternoon. Yay!

Very helpful and a quick resolution to the problem.

I have three Nook devices. My NC, my NE1 and my NST. I've had to replace my NE1 once, an NC charger and now my NC. I've also called about problems with my account or the website.

CS has always been polite, helpful and worked with me to resolve my problems. When the website kept telling me that my cc had expired 50 years ago, they investigated and finally told me it was a reporting glitch and to ignore it. My account info was accurate and it would not affect my purchases or use of my NC. Sure enough, a few days later, the notice disappeared.

I very much appreciate that I've never had to argue with them about whether they needed to replace my devices and charger or not. This time, I knew my NC was over a year old and I wasn't sure it was still covered under warranty or not. I have it covered under Square Trade too so I wasn't overly worried about whether B&N would replace it or not, I knew Square Trade would cover it. But..they told me it was covered and set up the replacement for me to take care of today. Hopefully things will go as smoothly at the store though the store personel have always been helpful in the past.

Than you everyone for your help. It certainly smoothed the way this morning that I had already done all the recovery procedures suggested here, prior to calling so that we could move on to getting it replaced. That made resolving the problem a whole lot faster and less painful. :smileyhappy:

And of course, I tried to be polite and patient in return and I think that ALWAYS helps when dealing with CS. :smileyhappy: OF course, that could change if the exchange doesn't go well. LOL! Thanks all!
