i was trying to open a book and the Nook zoomed in on the cover art like normal before it opens the book. However, it has frozen zoomed in on the cover art. I can see my homescreen in the background but i get no response from the touch screen, the nook symbol button, the power button, or even the volume buttons. What do I do?

I succeeded in fixing this issue by connecting my nook ot the computer and holding the power button for around 30 seconds until it finally restarted

I was able to unfreeze mine by:
1. Plugging it in.
2. Press and hold the "N" button.
3. Press and hold the power button (upper left) for about 20 seconds.
Eventually the screen will go blank and "the future of reading" splash screen will show up, followed by the big grey "N".
(For some reason, this would not work until I plugged it in, though the thing had plenty of battery left when it froze.)
Good luck.

My Nook Color froze for the first time and I tried out both of your methods.
Now it's up and running again. Thank you for your help!

This method worked for me too, with the exception of plugging it in. I simply pressed and held the power button for approx. 20 seconds and restarted in about 1 minute, and it reset and the screen was unfroze. thanks for the tips.

In addition to getting the manuals online from the manufacturer websites, I also make it my personal habit of keeping a copy of the user manuals for all of my appliances on my PC for "just such an occasion" so they are always handy. Just had to look up some trouble codes for my water heater as a matter of fact.....

This is just one of my pet peeves, which is kinda ironic given that I now own an ereader. I hate that when you buy anything now, it does not come with an owner's manual! I know with the Nook it is right there on the Nook and that you can get it online, but the average user doesn't know that. Wouldn't it just be easier to give you the dang manual in the packaging!
I do the same thing, I have a folder on my computer with all my manuals saved to it, but it just bugs me that I have to do that! I just went through this whole thing with my new PS3. There is a 120 page manual that you can get on their web site but there is absolutely nothing in the packaging that indicates this fact. They give you a quick start guide which is great for set-up, but it doesn't answer the 150 other questions that I usually have about a new device. I want to read about it!

The issue, of course, is money. Also, to a first approximation, nobody reads the manual.
How much more are you willing to pay for the product if it includes the paper manual: $2, $5?
Remember, that the manual not only costs money to print, it also costs money to ship. You also need to discard a bunch of printed manuals if you update the product and want to update the manual too.
You can always print it out yourself if you feel the need. I actually feel more secure with PDF file manuals that I keep on my computer and can back up. I also can find them again later if I name them reasonably or organize them in proper folders. The paper ones seem to disappear into the abyss since I'm not organized enough with them.

I'm certain that money is the manufacturing/retailing concern, but I'm actually pleased that so many electronic devices come with no printed manual. It's an itsy bitsy, teeny tiny step towards saving some trees and keeping paper out of landfill. Sure, it's SMALL, but it's better than nothing.

I agree, and am very much in favor of reducing tree use, especially for stuff that just winds up in landfills.
BUT, that ain't the reason they are gone. If folks complained much, or certainly, if manufacturers thought it could lower support call volume with paper manuals included, they'd be back.

All you need to do to force your device to reboot is press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Then once it shuts down, you can press the power button for 2 seconds and it will boot back up.
Pressing the n button while doing this is not a good idea.

Thank You also
I too found your post and your solution
Hooray for forums!!
In my tries I also found that I had inadvertently performed a screenshot.
Thank you again.
I think mine got stuck either because it was too cold or from my wiping the screen off with my palm... :-/
