Re: Nook color WiFi connection issue resolved

If your netgear is one of the ones BN has acknowledged issues with, you may need to roll back to 1.1 and root so you preserve your 1.1 status.

Before doing so, you can try going through the checklist here:

http://nookworks.blogspot.com/2011/05/my-nc-cant-talk-to-my-wireless.html

which many folks have found helpful.  Toward the top of the post the three routers known to be problems are cited by model #.  There are links to a rollback process as well.

Why can't you access it? Does it belong to your neighbor? haha just kidding...

Are you saying you can't access it to configure it? Some routers, depending upon age, have an app for configuring. Or there's just an internal net web page you go to for config (e.g., http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1). The manual should tell you. If you don't have the manual, you can find it online under the support section of the router manufacturer's web page.

Re: Nook color WiFi connection issue resolved

I found an easier fix...hope it helps.

When you first get your Nook Color, go to a wi-fi hotspot and register it. This is very important.

Then, go to Settings, Device Info, then hit About your Nook Color and write down the Wi-Fi MAC address in your Nook (in case you didn't register it properly)

Go home and connect it to your router through your router's IP address.

If you don't know it go to your router manufacturer's website or just google it.

Put your router's IP address into your browser and all the router settings will come up.

Under "Set Up" make sure it's "enabled" you will see Permit PC's listed. (you'll see all the

other devices you have connected to your router in the list)

Add your Nook color's mac address. click save settings.

that's it.

you do not have to change any other settings.

I have 2 Nook colors working now, but could not connect either one until I manually added the IP addresses of both.

As long as you can connect other devices to your router such as laptops, PS3 or whatever--this will work. I thought I needed a newer router before I tried this my Cisco is 5 years old!!

I hope it works for you.

Re: Nook color WiFi connection issue resolved

I too have had wifi issues with my nook after upgraded to 1.2.0.  The issue I saw was that I could connect to the wifi network, but got stuck in the aquiring the IP address stage.  Seems this is a common issue with 1.2.0.  I did manage to get it to work, but had to change a few things on my network.

The issue for me stems from DHCP being run on the primary swtich in my network.  My cable modem pulls into a switch that provides firewall, and DHCP capabilites.  For reasons unknown (i suspect it has to do with lack of support for IPV6), the DHCP server on the switch was not talking to the Nook, so the nook was not getting an IP address.  I disabled DHCP on the switch, and installed a DHCP server on a machine I have in my network (Microsoft DHCP), and tada, my Nook works like a champ now.

So B&N tech support, take note, the issue is NOT the WIFI settings, but the DHCP server capability. The implemenation of the IP stack in 1.2.0 has a flaw.

Re: Nook color WiFi connection issue resolved

I actually think that there are a number of different things that make trouble depending on the network environment the device is in.

What router and model # was having the DHCP assignment problem in your hands?

I know that in my universe, a Netscreen 5GT-adsl can support the NC in WPA2, but cannot support it in any of the four WEP modes I tried (2 keylengths and open keys versus shared keys)

But I think we can all thank Google for having decided to reinvent the wheel on the wifi supplicant.

Nook color WiFi connection issue resolved with Netgear Wireless-N 150 Router Model WNR1000

Great fix to the Netgear Wireless-N 150 Router Model WNR1000

Here is how to do it:

1. Log onto your router using the IP address assigned

2. Click on the Wireless Settings link under "Setup"

3. Click on the drop-down menu for "mode" and change the Mode to 54Mps

4. Click "Apply". If you skip this step the change won't be made

Re: Nook color WiFi connection issue resolved

What IP address are you typing in? Most router manuafactures use specific IP addresses for their routers, but if you try one for a netgear and you have a Linksys or something you will run into issues.  If you go to a command prompt and type IPCONFIG (from your desktop computer) you will see the IP address of your router - usually as the default gateway address. An alternative is to google it (like Linksys W45 & ip address) and you will find several sites that will show you how to get to your router via internet explorer.

Re: Nook color WiFi connection issue resolved

I own a NC, but do not have WiFi at home yet.  I want to make sure that I purchase the "correct" router so I don't have any problems.  But this is problematic in a couple of ways.  One, I shouldn't need to purchase the "correct" router.  As long as my router transmits the proper wifi bands, the Nook should work correctly without any second guessing on my part.  Also, I don't plan on being a prisoner in my own home.  I like to go out from time to time, and to take my nook with me.  I should be able to access WiFi virtually everywhere, but I have no control over the types of routers being used by public hotspots.  Also, I shouldn't have to go in and finagle with my router's settings just to get my Nook to do what it is advertised as being able to do.  I might be able to do so, with the proper instructions.  But I certainly can't expect to be allowed to go in and modify the settings on public wifi routers.

C'mon B&N.  Step up to the plate and fix this problem.  It's been going on for at least three months now.  Just fix it already.

Re: Nook color WiFi connection issue resolved BELKIN F5D7234-4

I had to change my Belkin F5D7234-4 from WPA2/AES to WPA/PSK TKIP in order to get my color nook and my android phones to work consistently.

The android devices would work with ping times in the 50-400 ms range in AES mode- but only AFTER I turned off all three of my Windows PCs. With all the devices on- nothing would work in AES mode.  The problem in the PCs only occured if an Android device was turned on.

Changed the Belkin to TKIP and all PCs now have ping times in 2-3 ms range and the Androids always connect!

The interaction of multiple WiFi devices was quite annoying to diagnose!

Now I won't have to return the Nook Color
!

Use a long complex passcode key for TKIP- don't use a dictionary word!

Re: Nook color WiFi connection issue

I tried what was suggested, but my router was already at 54.  When I select my network, it says "remembered".  Then it changes to disabled.  I never get the "continue with setup" button to light up.  Ugh...help!!

Re: Nook color WiFi connection issue

You need to touch on the remembered connection long enough to get the message box to delete the remembered connection. Then start fresh with your security password/paraphrase when the nook finds the connection.

Re: Nook color WiFi connection issue resolved

This may have helped you but this is not the end all solution.  I have tried everything at this point.  I am in tears.  I am taking this back and getting the Classic Nook and I am going to make Barnes and Noble throw in a cover taboot.  I am a nervous wreck over this problem and can't take it anymore.
