Re: Page turning problem on Nook Color

I hope some at B and N reads this and does something about it!  I find that whatever they did with 1.4.1 makes the page turning much more distracting---maybe it is slower?  In any case, I also have the turning pages backward occasionally and it is very annoying.

Have you tried disabling page turn animations?

Re: Page turning problem on Nook Color

I too have had this problem since the 1.4 update.  Additionally, I had a problem where the entire nook just "stuck" right after I downloaded the update.  Support told me to turn it off (power down) which I did and left it off for about 60 seconds.  That fixed that problem.  The page thing started a few days later.

It is a two-prong issue.  First, the pages turn my slower and I had to adjust for that.  Tapping the screen is really annoying as it is very slow.  I have used swiping most of the time as I know when to start that motion as I am getting to the end of a page.  Before the update I only needed to start that motion with two sentences left on the page....now it is at about four.

The sticking of pages has got to be fixed.  I will be in the middle of a book and no matter what, the same page just keeps showing up.  Sometimes I can use the "Go to Page" function but not always.  I have had to turn it off, to get to where I want.  Other times, I turn the page and it is just a blank page.  That usually happens right after I "wake" up my nook.

BN really needs to address this quickly.

Why offer new apps and upgrades that have nothing to do with reading books or that ultimately frustrate book readers? Why mess-up the book reader functionality - did we not buy the nook to primarily read books? Is B&N even reading our frustrations???? Aghh!!!! FIX THE PROBLEMS!

Re: Page turning problem on Nook Color

I agree, I NEVER had page turning issues until the last update 1.4.1 (?).  Now it sporatically turns the page backwards.  Just a PIA, but still, it was not a problem until the update.  Barnes & Noble???  Are you there?

Also, can't you guys figure out a way to load books wirelessly??  Other eReaders do this......

Re: Page turning problem on Nook Color

I have found that if you change the font size to the next smaller size then back to the original size it fixes the paging problem

Re: Page turning problem on Nook Color

The Logs of the Watersnake and Water Rat  I've created epub files (from scratch using an xhtml editor) for ebooks for the iPad, Kindle (which become mobi files) and the Nook, and what I've found is that if there is an image taller than the Nook display height within a paragraph flow, the Nook can't page past it. That was definitely a solid way to get this problem to occur under 1.3 and it sounds like it's not fixed in 1.4.x. Less frequently I saw the same problem with long paragraphs, which the Nook very much wants to keep together, and I saw more problems paging backwards than forwards. This is not a problem with the iPad or Kindle(s), but when I prepared books for the Nook, I had to modify them to prevent this from happening. Which should not be necessary. My epub files validate with no errors on the standard validation tools and they look fine on the other readers.

Changing the font size is helping because it makes the Nook re-calculate where the page breaks occur. Same with rotating the screen, changing the margins, or changing back to 'publisher default' whatever that's supposed to mean.

Re: Page turning problem on Nook Color

This very issue has been happening to me on my NC since the lastest update.  It's very frustrating. My screen is clean and I hate missing pages of a book I have paid to read.  B&N listen up and fix this issue.  Makes me want to buy a different ereader.

Re: Page turning problem on Nook Color

I am right there with all of you although he sticky pages are not as bad as having to re-authenticate every other week or so. I never had problems before the update. I am looking at buying the nook tablet or kindle fire but the lack of fixes available for current nc problems make me hesitate to consider another nook.

Re: Page turning problem on Nook Color

Does anyone know if this has officially been addressed?  My son is having this problem on his Nook Color.  He's on version 1.4.2.  I've just tried turning it off, waiting, and turning it back on.

I'll suggest the font change to him to, but he went from using his nook a lot, to not touching it.

Re: Page turning problem on Nook Color

I've been having the same problem for months. I thought at first it was just on books from another source, but I'm currently reading (or trying to read) a 4 book set and am stuck on page 1314. Have tried archiving and re-downloading, turning orientation, changing font size, powering down... nothing works. I too have stopped using the nook and am seriously looking at other options. The tech support on nooks is non-existent, there is not a single person in my local store that really understands the product.

Changing font size always works for me. Perhaps you are having another problem?

Firmware 1.4.3 has become available today. Perhaps they solved the problem in this version?

Nope. Not solved. Just had to reboot mine again after getting stuck in an endless loop trying to advance a page.

Re: Page turning problem on Nook Color

I have found that opening another book for a few seconds will "reset" the page loop problem and you can go back to your original book and it will advance correctly.  But yeah, they need to fix this, it's annoying as all get out.

Re: Page turning problem on Nook Color

Add me to the list of people with this page turning, looping back on itself issue.  I have done all the tricks recommended on this thread from cleaning the screen, rebooting the device and even changing the font settings.  As with others, I have also continually updated the OS, so I am at the latest version. Each time the problem goes temporarily away, but always come back at some other random part of any book I read.

BTW, I am 100% sure that this problem is not a book issue as my wife recently downloaded and read the same book I currently am, which I had issues with, while she has not had any issues.  The only difference is that she has a Nook Tablet while I have a Color.

Re: Page turning problem on Nook Color

I have this same problem. I have one of the original Nook Colors, so I thought maybe it was just getting old, but it sounds like it happens to newer ones as well. When it first started happening, I could do a soft reset and it would be fine, but now it happens more frequently, and I will never finish a book if I'm resetting the device every few minutes. But I'm also having other problems, including but not limited to: a page will just turn blank while I'm reading it, and even if I advance to the next page and then come back, it's still blank; page turning has slowed down to the point that I'm not sure it has even recognized my tap, until I tap again and it will advance 2 pages; selecting text isn't working like it did originally, as sometimes I can tap and it either won't select at all, or it selects a word that is several words away from the one I'm trying to select. I am thinking that all of these may be screen-related, but not sure what to do. I'll try cleaning it, although I am skeptical that it will work.  I do not want to do a hard reset because of all the repercussions of that. If I can't figure out some solution, I'll probably just buy a Nook with the Glowlight, as the main reason I wanted the NC to begin with was to be able to read in bed in the dark, so it wouldn't keep my husband awake.

I have this problem too. Why complain if B&N ignores it?

Re: Page turning problem on Nook Color

Go ahead and add one more talley to this list.  I have had issues for months now where my NC randomly goes to the home screen while in the middle of reading.  I have to try 3+ times to get it to turn off, i have white spots appearing on my screen which are starting to look like they are connecting into a line down the left side of the screen.  It is hesitating for long periods of time between page turns and that if it turns at all.  I have to continually turn it off to reboot it to read a few more pages before it does it all over again.  Tonight I had to deregister/reregister because i took it out of sleeping to continue reading my book and it just started opening up screens and highlighting text and took a solid 2 minutes to get it to power down.  Too bad the extended warranty is long past expired because this really sucks!!!!!!  I'm very tempted to stomp all over this NC and just go back to reading on my laptop or try out the kindle.  Anything has got to be better then dealing with this.  It's very frustrating for someone who reads everynight!!!

Re: Page turning problem on Nook Color

I have had issues on mine since the most recent software update. It happened on some Wilbur Smith books, Tom Clancy books, Insurgent/Divergent books. Pretty much every book I have read in the past 5 months. I mad a post somewhere but lost it. I set it to publisher defaults and it helped for a bit, but the books continue to do it. Sometimes I will read hundreds of pages no problems, and sometimes every 5 or so pages it will flip back 3 pages and then go from say page 11->12->13->14->11->11->11. And I have to "Go to page" and type the number in and back track. Still no fix on this ? I am using a Nook Color software version 1.4.3

Re: Page turning problem on Nook Color

Just switch to another book, then go back to the problem book and it will now work!
