SOLVED: Nook color security password issue

Hi,

For those of you who have had a problem accessing your home wireless (the nook color asks for network password) try entering your network's security key.

This resolved the issue for my mother's NC (solved by my wonderful husband), which no one else had been able to resolve.

Hope this helps others!

Yep, there are different passwords going on...

There's your B&N account password.

And then there's your Wireless Adaptor's WiFi security password (if you have security enabled).

Two different animals.

Glad to hear you got it resolved!

Actually, there could be 3 passwords:

in addition to:

B&N Account password

Wireless Adaptor's WiFi Network/SSID security password

your wireless adaptor/router could also have an "admin" password (which is usually, and should be, different than WiFi Network/SSID passwords).  The "admin" password is used to make changes to the WiFi Network/SSID settings (SSID name, Wifi Network/SSID security password, WEP vs WPA/WPA2, etc.)

Yes, BurningKeys, good catch. The admin password for the wireless access point or router is totally separate from the network key! So that's 3 indeed!

Re: SOLVED: Nook color security password issue

They are both in your router.

If you look at its WiFi setup screen you probably can read the SSID. If it is "published" by your router (as it should be) you don't need to know it because your Nook will detect it.

The security code is another story. You probably can't get it back from the router because where it is entered will only show you round dots, like a password field. If you haven't got it written down somewhere, you will probably need to change it, and then change it on all the devices attached to the router too.

Re: SOLVED: Nook color security password issue

When you go into the WiFi setup, the Nook will list all of the wireless access points, by SSID name, that are in range and generally in order of signal strength. In theory, yours should be the first one listed. :smileyhappy: I can see sometimes 3 or 4 listed on mine (picking up some neighbors) but the signal strength is indicated as low.

Who set up your wireless access point? They should know the name and the security key (if they set it up with security enabled).

Re: SOLVED: Nook color security password issue

I am trying to set up my WIFE and I am not sure what the wireless password suppose to be.  It shows that I have signal strength excellent. But where do I go to find the password to get into it?

Re: SOLVED: Nook color security password issue

Who set up your "WIFE" (WIFI) initially and did they write down the password for future set up with other wireless devices?

Additionally if you have the original password that the router came with currently in use, the router web site should give you their default password.

First off I would look for the password written down in notes from when the router was set up....and...there will be someone along much more knowledgable about retrieving this information than me.  Those are the only two suggestions that I have currently.

I purchased it today and I'm not sure where to find the password to set it up. Where do I look to find it?

Re: SOLVED: Nook color security password issue

Did you buy the WIFI - i.e. router today?  So, from what I am gathering that the router is not set up yet?

When you set up your router, there will be a point where the router password will become relevant, write it down, it will be long and it is Case Sensitive.

Now if you have not set up your router, so that you have WIFI, then the nook will not work on WIFI.

Sorry I am confused...need more information.  Do you have a router set up to broadcast WIFI signal?

Re: SOLVED: Nook color security password issue

I was having trouble entering my wifi password  (aka passphrase, which is set at a high level of security) for my Color Nook because the wifi password was too long to fit in the field provided by the Nook. When I went to B&N, I got my Nook software updated to version 1.3.0. After that, the field was long enough to enter my long password. Now I can connect to my secure home wifi.
