Sideloading books

Please forgive a dumb question!  I just got a new to me nook color - have had a basic nook for years.  I sideloaded several epub format books from my pc to my new nook color.  I can see the books on the nook but when I try to open one it gives me the error msg - Sorry, cannot open this book.  Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

Re: Sideloading books

Check the name of your files. There must be only one dot in the filename (the one of the ".epub" extension). I believe the "#" sign can also cause a problem when used in the filename.

Re: Sideloading books

That was a good idea....but I checked all the files and the filenames look ok to me.  No extra dots or any symbols at all.   I can download books from my library using Overdrive and can read those books fine - just not my old epub format books from my old 1st ed. nook.  I'm stumped.

Re: Sideloading books

Where did you get the eBooks from? Is there DRM on them?

Re: Sideloading books

I got them in various places, mostly epubbud.com.  It may be the drm...if that was the problem would they have opened on my original nook?

Re: Sideloading books

If they have DRM on them, you probably need to utilize ADE to get them on your new Nook to use them. If they are DRM-free then you should be able to just drag and drop from your computer to your Nook.
