Where do I get a driver to sync this with my PC? I plug it in using the provided cable and I get "USB device not recognized".
How do I add my wallpapers, pictures, etc without plugging it in via USB to my PC?

A little update after further reading about the new propietary microUSB connector I tried to plug it in my PC with my previous nook cable. Unbelievably it works. All the drives showed up and done. Why wont it detect my nook with the USB cable that came with it?
I need a sync cable that works.

Nobody else has reported this; it sounds like you got a defective cable. (I'm assuming you used the same USB port each time.)
Call Customer Service and I bet they'll ship you a replacement.

The cable works for me, although with Vista. The fact that a different cable works suggests--as another reader said--a bad cable.
The proprietary pins are outside of the standard micro USB connection, so any USB cable that fits should work for data. (This is actually pretty standard in the USB+ world; I just wish that there was a standard for those extra pins, as I have several USB+ devices. Maybe they are, but I'm not brave enough to smoke test!)

I was able to sideload books onto my NookColor the other day with the USB. I always eject from the icon tray. Today, however, when I connect my cable from the NookColor to the PC - I'm getting "USB device not recognized". I've tried removing the usb device from the device manager and have it look for new devices. I've even rebooted both the PC (Windows 7) and the Nook - but still getting the "USB device not recognized" (showing up as unknown device). Any ideas what to try next?
Thanks.

I'm thinking it's the usb cable that came with my Nook Color. I just tried to plug it into the charger and the light on the usb turned red.

I had that problem but it turned out that the sync cable wasn't fully engaged. It's hard to push in all the way with those extra long power pins, so it felt like it was in as far as it would go but it actually wasn't. After it was fully plugged in, it lit up in the computer too.

If your Nook is not open, the computer will not recognize it. Make sure it is open beyond the home screen.

Correct. But not "beyond the home screen" - you need to unlock it past the locked screen - in other words, swipe the little "n" to wake it up.

Also be sure to set your sleep timer longer while working on files, as the minute the nookcolor goes to sleep, it shows as disconnected on your pc.

I have had issued with the Nook Color and Windows 7. I actually called up B&N customer support. They are going to just send me another Nook Color. I appreciate the sentiment, but being a PC engineer, I dont think the problem was Nook Hardware related (though them sending me a new one is a blessing since i have to actually work at getting the charge/usb cord in)
THAT BEING SAID!
I have to, quite often, restart both the Nook and my PC . ONCE the PC recognizes that a USB device is plugged in. i have to go to my Nooks home page... ONLY THEN when it recognize with NO issue.
PROBLEM HERE IS, when I am idle.. lets say I add/remove some files, then go to the bathroom, my nook will go into Stand-by mode, when this happens it auto disconnectes from the PC until I turn it back on and go to the home page. NOW this is where I think the problem, because i May or MAY NOT get Windows to recognize it again. If it does itll keep connecting then disconnecting then reconnecting
-- I THINK not 'ejecting' the Nook Color causes issue, at least with my system
(AMD, Windows 7 Home, 64bit)
Once this happens, I'll keep getting a message saying "SD card is corrupt and may need to be formated". This happen even though there was no SD card. Still i would click "format" and nothing would happen. if i check the memory, It would say "0.00 GBs out of 0.00 GBs used". I noticed I couldnt download any magazines to the nook also (while within a Barnes & Nobles store)
ANYWHO.. I SAY ALL THIS BECAUSE I LIKE THIS PRODUCT!, and hope they work out the bugs as they come along

My understanding is the NOOKcolor is recognized as 2 "drives" much like an SD card or removable drive. It has 2 separate partitions I believe and shows up as 2 drives on my PC. I think they probably have protected the Operating system partition. I certainly wouldn't hit format for anything I didn't want completely erased.
You do have to do what has been reported before-make sure to keep the NC awake when connected to the computer or it will go to sleep and disconnect from the PC which means it hasn't been ejected and disconnected properly. I don't know if that makes it unusable or what, but it is best to either change the timer for it to go to sleep to something longer or just stay and keep it awake. Then when done, eject it and then do the safely remove hardware thing.

I had this problem, until I found the solution: The Nook Color pulls a LOT of power. My front-panel USB ports don't provide enough; thus, "device not recognized." Moving the USB cable to one of the ports on the back (or, I presume, to a powered hub) fixed the problem. (Windows 7)

Thanks, Brittmayo. You were spot on. When I switched to my computer's back USB ports the nookColor came up as expected. The front ports would not recognize the device. Must be a power-draw issue as you pointed out.

My last few desktop pc's have all had front USB ports as well as the back ones and I too have experienced problems while using the front USB's. Not talking about using them with my NC in particular, but just with other USB stuff like my Line 6 Guitar Port, digital camera and mobile phones. The front USB ports are stated as being,"2.0",like the ones on the rear but they just don't work 100% all the time like the ones at the back....

Um wrong. It has nothing to do with the USB cord, Nothing to do with undercharged Nook either, I am using Win 7 Ultimate, on my laptop and have had no issue with it recognzing the Nook until today. This morning I tried to add books via my laptop usb cord, my Nook was fully charged,( I had it plugged into the power outlet over night) and it all of a sudden, after nearly a year, it doesn't recognize it.
I guess I will have to call tech support, since the Nook is also turning screensaver on and off at random times, I'll see the screensaver picture, then all of a sudden a book page, then the next screensaver page running down my already less than desirable battery time.
So I suggest you do as I am and call B&N techs, because it isn't a faulty cord.

I am having this problem, too. My nook color has not had an problems, but now about the past week, it's not charging properly and I've tried to plug it into my USB on 2 different computers, trying all of the ports, and it says "USB not recognized". I also have a SD card installed. I have removed it and tried to plug it into my USB that way and it still is not working.
With the charging problem, it's taking a long time to charge. It doesn't say on the screen that it is charging. I don't know if it is charging or not unless I leave it sit and come back to it hours later. It's really annoying.
Guess I'll be calling customer service.
