Unable to register used nook color

I got a Nook for my son? I purchased my Nook color on eBay. When I received the NC it was locked / password protected. I followed the instructions from B&N on how to reset the password. I then tried to register it and even called B&N to ask for help. They said they can't help unless I know the original email address it was registered with. The seller doesn't have the original email address. Please help. Any answers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Get your money back from the seller. It has to be deregistered by the seller before you can register it, so if te cant deregistered it it's no good to you. If you can get to the settings look in the about nook color area the account name should be there which is the email address. Did you try deregistering it? I just deregistered mine and I didn't need to input anything so maybe you can do that although I didn't think it was that easy to deregister.

Hi. I was wondering if you figured out how to unregister the nook without the original user's info. I have two I bought off craigslist and am having the same issue.

Erase and deregister works just fine without the owner's details.  A problem can occur when the prior owner does a factory reset without deregistering first, and then the next owner trys to re-register it.

I am thinking of selling my Nook Color. I just have to erase and de-register and the new person will be all set? Is that correct? I thought there was something else I had to do! Thanks

Yes, that will reset the device to factory settings and remove your personal information.

Froginmds, like other people on the forum said, you should be able to deregister it without needing the email id.

If you go to Settings - then Device Info, then Erase & Deregister Device. Then you should be able to deregister.

It's a bit suspicious that the person who sold you the Nook Color doesn't know the email and sent you something that was locked (and I'm assuming didn't know password).

Can you get a refund of your EBay purchase? Why not get a refund and buy one of the lower priced Tablet or Color ones available now from B&N.
