cracked screen-can I fix it?

Any way to fixed a cracked Nook Color screen yourself? My husband is very capable with this stuff, just need to know how to do and and where to get the parts. Please tell me this is possible! :-(

Unfortunately there is no way to fix the screen without voiding the warranty. However, I don't believe the 1yr defective warranty will cover a cracked NC screen. If you purchased the Accidental Protection Plan, I'd reccomend calling 1800-THE-BOOK for a replacement. Just curious...how did it happen?

If you have no other recourse there are people that fix (replace) the screens for all kinds of things-iphones, ipods, smartphones, and all.  They may be able to replace it at some point if you can find someone who does this.  I know my brother has done this for other's smartphones and has for iphones and ipods (I'm no suggesting him, by the way), but others out there are running lucrative businesses doing this.

There is also one place that shows how to take the NC apart, but you'd have to find some place to get the screen and be certain this is something that you or someone you know can do.  They sometimes require special tools for screen removal.

I am going to call customer service, but I'm doubting they will cover it since I forgot to buy the extra warranty (busy mom syndrome:-( It's broken because I was holding it and bent over to help my son and it slid out of my hand. I could kick myself for not remembering to buy the warranty. But I'm also irrited with how easily it broke, it barely fell to the ground!

And I'm annoyed that we live in a such a disposable society where you're expected to buy a warranty for everything rather than making it easy to have something fixed. I have no problem buying the parts and fixing it, but from my googling I can't really find out how. :-(

Customer service said "sorry" when I called them today, but then also told me to take it to the store. So I'll go talk face to face and see if I get any sympathy. If not, guess we'll try the fix!

Sympathy is found only in the dictionary and only between a cuss word for human waste and a medical term for a kind of STD.

Don't expect to find it in a store, any store.

If they won't do anything see if they have any returned NC they will sell you at a discount.  I have made some pretty good deals on cellphones.

I just read your note about being told to go to the store. My daughter's new Nook Tablet screen is cracked. It was a Christmas gift and the extended warranty was not purchased. I called B&N Nook Customer Service and was told they couldn't help. But, they told me to try the store. I thought maybe there was hope. How wrong I was - I was thoroughly embarrassed as the lady told me "who do you think I am - I am a book store manager with other clerks here, not a much of technicians."

I've seen them very rarely on eBay. More often, I see defective nook colors being sold on eBay "for parts" which may or may not have a functional screen.

Not sure where you are located but I'm here in South Florida and there is a  store which I'm told they have locations all over UBREAKIFIX.COM. They are able to fix a cracked screen.  Hope this helps.
