I've had my Nook Color for 3 weeks. A few days ago, however, my Nook Color started malfunctioning. I'll have an ebook open and all of a sudden the Nook starts turning pages by itself. The first time it happened, I figured that maybe it was a glitch or an isolated incident, so I powered it off and turned it back on. I opened the book and then tried another book (I've tested it on several books; it's not isolated to one particular book) and the same thing happened. When it starts skipping ahead, I press the main button that takes me back to the home screen--I can't pause it when it's fast forwarding. It makes me wonder if there is some component/part in the Nook that gets "stuck"--perhaps an internal part is loose or something? Anyway, I go back to the book I was reading and instead of being on page 90 (where I left off before it starting malfunctioning), it is on page 200. I go back to where I left off and what do you know, the Nook starts skipping ahead again! I thought that maybe the pressure of my hands/fingers on the device was causing it, but no, that's not it--I put it on a flat surface and it still fast forwards. I am going to contact B&N soon and see about getting a replacement. This problem with the Nook Color is intermittent but happens often enough that it is negatively affecting my use of the device. I estimate the skipping ahead happens 1 out of every 3 times I open an ebook. That's not at all acceptable for a $250 product. I want to know if anyone else is experiencing this problem.

I am having the same "pages turning by themselves" problem. I see you posted this three weeks ago. What ended up happening? Were you able to get it fixed/replaced?

I had the same problem during a class at one of the stores. The instructor looked at my nook and said he had never seen that happen before, but told me to call tech support if it happens again. I have not had the problem since.
Good Luck!

I experienced the NC runaway page turning for the first time yesterday in my local BN store. A reboot seemed to fix things.
My device also has the hyper sensitive touch screen when charging.
I'd also be curious to know if anyone is having problems with the "open book" icon/button in the status bar? I press the icon and nothing happens. I can see that the button visible state changes, so it would seem that the hardware is generating the correct event and the OS is recognizing it. Rebooting the device seems to fix this issue for a while as well.
BTW, I have the 1.0.1 update on my NC.

Exact same issue.....plus it highlights word wildy as it jumps around, almost like it is repeating the last 100 touch strokes. VERY IRRITATING. Anyone get an anser from the BN folks on this? Wondering if I need to make an exchange.

Have you all tried asking on the nook color tech support board. It's just a bit below this one on the community page?

Sorry to take so long to reply. As I posted earlier, my Nook was "turning pages by itself". It's also worth mentioning that it was hyper-sensitive when plugged in as well (someone mentioned this symptom earlier).
After working with support, they had me:
1. Clean the screen (no joy)
2. Hardware reset (still no joy)
3. Sent me a new unit - lots o' joy!
Replacing the unit was the solution!

I purchased the nook color in august for my son. It started flipping the pages as descrbed here by other users. We took it back to the store and counldn't duplicate it. It kept doing it so we took it in again and the arranged a replacement. We just received it a few days ago and now it is doing the same thing. It also randomly highlights words when it is doing this and the freezes. It all seems to be random. Does anyone know if there is a solution to this?

You may get more help in the NookColor section. Click on "Browse Book Clubs" and choose the NookColor forum.

Clean the screen. It only takes a litte guck or body oil on the screen to freak it out. Make sure it's in standby and clean the screen well with a microfiber cloth. Also putting on a anti-glare screen will help a lot in getting rid of the random flipping and also does a great job keeping the touch screen clean.

I got mine at my B&N - it was about $16 and there are two glare screens and a micro fiber cleaning cloth. But I think probably any 7" glare screen would work.

I have experienced this same problem. Let me start by saying I purchased my Nook Color last December. Originally, about 2-3 months ago, my Nook Color froze up. I went online with Customer Support and did a lot of troubleshooting. They then replaced my Nook Color with a refurb. The refurb has started turning pages by itself, as well as the touch screen not working at all at other times. I was a little offended when the technician told me there was nothing they could do, I just needed to clean my screen more. I clean my screen regularly and that would not cause it to change pages by itself. I then asked to speak to his supervisor and they are sending me a New Nook Color this time as a replacement. With the two issues I have had, I have found the technical support department to be of great help (with the exception of the one technician I spoke with this morning). I made sure to advise the Supervisor that I was a little offended that they told me I just needed to clean the screen more, so don't let them tell you that. Definitely contact them, they should make it right for you.

This problem is caused because of the low-quality capacitive touchscreen used in the product. If this is still happening, there is probably something conductive stuck on the screen. Do the following:
1. Turn of your nook colour
2. Get a paper towel and put a little bit of water on it
3. Squeeze the water out and wipe the screen with it
4. Use the dry part of the paper towel to dry the screen
5. Restart
Your problem should now be fixed
Be careful that the paper towel is not too wet, and try to keep the water away from the home button as much as possible; a little water will not hurt, however.

I would not recommend dripping any water on the screen. I would use a microfiber cloth and just breath on the screen to fog it, then wipe with the microfiber. If that and a reset doesn't fix it, then it's probably defective and I'd return/exchange it. I've had my NookColor for over a year and never had this problem, ever. And I find the screen to be of very good quality.

I've tried microfiber; it does not work. Water seems to be the only way to fix this problem. B&N did a very good job at making the screen water resistant, and the water will not hurt it at all.

My nook color does this when the battery is getting low and needs to be charged.
