will not power off is stuck on nook color screen

My nook color worked for about 30 min.  I spent hour on the phone because it will not power off and is stuck on the nook color screen.  It goes from the nook color screen to a black screen then back to the nook color screen and so on...  The teck support tried to help but we cant get it to do anything.  They say I have to drive it to a local store to have the battery reset and taken out.  Well I live an hour and a half from the nearest store!!!!!!  Not to happy.  Has anyone else had this problem?

Put the Nook on your charger for a hour or so. Then try to power it off. Hold down the power button until the message that asks if you want to power off goes away. Then it should be completely off. Push the power button again and let it reboot. You might have let the charge get a little too low.
