1.1.2 screwup? missing books and frozen nooks

Hey, everyone--

I bumped a previous post, but thought I'd start my own thread just in case.  Here is my tale of woe regarding 1.1.2.  I wasn't really paying attention when the 1.1.2 update was rolling itself out over wifi, otherwise I would have just manually installed it--but it installed itself.

Now, I had also just messed up something myself: I changed my e-mail and password on my bn.com account.  (I didn't realize you weren't supposed to do that unless you had deregistered your nook first).  My poor technophobe mom was borrowing it, and she reported to me that ALL the books had suddenly disappeared from my library except the most recent one I had bought.

I reset my bn.com account and e-mail back to what they were, after finding something in the manual about it.  Then I took it to a local BN store.  The guy there thought my password fiasco and the software update together probably screwed up my device.  We deregistered the Nook, then I went home and changed my password and e-mail again, reregistered the Nook, and all my books came back!

BUT...it came back with a problem!  It now freezes randomly!  While downloading a book, while reading a book, etc.--it will just freeze.  And I've held down that darn button on the back for a minute or more, and NOTHING HAPPENS.  My mom figured out plugging it in will reset it, and that it works plugged in, but we're doing that on a practically full battery.  In fact, it was still about 62% when it first started doing that.

So...any thoughts?  Has this happened to anyone else?  I've been looking and looking, but it doesn't appear to be a widespread issue.  I bought my Nook Simple Touch last July, right when it came out.  I solved the Wifi problem with 1.1.1 thanks to LastSilmaril's wonderful directions.  But I don't know if this current thing can be solved.  And of COURSE my protection plan from another store doesn't cover software malfunctions, so either way I'm screwed--I've had it too long to get a replacement or help for it.  I'd appreciate any commiserations or suggestions!

(P.S.--my NookTablet didn't complain when I messed with my password.  I deregistered and re-registered it, too, and there were no problems.)

Clean the borders of the screen (the gap). Dirt there is problem for the infrared transmitters and sensors that are located there.

You may have to unregister the nook, perform a factory fallback to v1.0 and manually install the latest update. This will correct any software related problems.

Customer Support can walk you through the process. It's a rather annoying process that involves restarting the device 6-8 times for the reset to initiate.

geerm and gstone, I will try both solutions when I get my NST back from my mom (don't want to take it away from her before she finishes the Hunger Games trilogy!).  I will keep everyone posted.  I really like the idea of a total factory reset back to 1.0 and a manual install!
